Recently, many athletes have chosen to take a stand to speak against the injustices of this world. Some are raising their hands to signify black power and unity while others are kneeling and refusing to stand during the singing of the national anthem. The athletes feel it is important to take a stand because of the killings which have taken place over the past few years between law enforcement and people of color. As a result of the recent killings people are protesting because they want justice to prevail but more importantly they want to feel liberated. History has shown us that although America is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave minorities had to fight and die just to be free from oppression and it appears the cycle is continuing with these recent killings. We serve a relational God who understands the cries of his children and will set out to liberate his children from being oppressed. The God I am referring to is able to set the marginalized free, release you out of bondage and deliver you from the hands of the unrighteous. In this paper I will explain why God is a liberator who releases his children from bondage and how God uses the church to set the oppressors free. There will always be a theological debate on God’s existence because many may find it hard to comprehend how someone who created the heavens and the earth can allow innocent people to get gunned down, why are people suffering if God exists, and why do we have to live as
