The longest yard did show some positive aspects throughout the movie. The biggest one in my book, is when the captain of the guard’s team changes his personality. At first, he was very abusive towards the prisoners and always plays dirty. Thought-out the movie, his action labeled him as a dirty prison guard. In the end, he gains respect for Paul, because he supported his team and wanted to prove a point, that they system is unfair. He refuses to testify falsely against Paul for Caretaker’s death, and refuse to shoot him. Another positive aspect of the movie, “The Longest Yard”, is when the inmates learned the value of teamwork. They all wanted to seek revenge on the guards, but learned that in order to seek it, they had to work together. They
“That our feet may swiftly carry out thy command so we shall flow the river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be”. Forbidden to be repeated by anyone who is not a McManus, Connor and Murphy allow the family prayer to roll off their tongues, and journey into the ears of the monstrous souls they are about to exterminate. Their religious belief nourishes the idea that they can make the streets of Boston good. The Boondock Saints is a movie about religion, family, and vigilante justice.
The following poster was designed by Noah Van Belle to explore the deeper meaning, found in the film The Shawshank Redemption, in just a single and simplistic image. The primary image, which is a rock hammer, represents the motifs of friendship and hope that is displayed throughout the film. The rock hammer is the first item that Andy, the protagonist, obtains from Red, who is also an inmate. This exchange between Red and Andy is the spark of their strong friendship. This friendship proved to be beneficial to Andy not only because he was able to obtain the resources, that he needed for his escape, from Red but he also had a partner to keep him from going insane, in a brutal place such as Shawshank. Red also benefited tremendously from his friendship
In the film Juice, there were four black teenage boys named Que, Raheem, Steals, and Bishop. They lived in Harlem, New York, were poverty has been an issue the past few decades. In Harlem there was a lot of crime, gang activity, drug abuse, shooting, and homicides among the black community. Each of the young men were living in a single parent household in a worn down neighborhood where they faced conflict with other local gang members from different racial backgrounds. Que was a local disc jockey trying to become known in the music industry. He and his friends would frequently skip school and go to a local hang-out spot where criminal activity took place. All four young men were involved in some form of petty/property crime around Harlem. They so much as skipped class to steal music albums from a small record store in their neighborhood. Bishop is one of Que’s best friends; they were so close people knew them as brothers around the hood. Out of all the four men, Bishop was the only one with two parents in the household. Even with both parents, Bishop was mostly involved in crime. He did not have a very strong bond with his father which took a toll on his relationship with other people. Bishop used his time at the hang-out spot to sell drugs; he made sure to carry a weapon and was always fighting with other gang members, he had a hard time fitting into society. In the movie Bishop stated, “I’m tired of running from police, I’m tired running from Chris (which
Joan Crawford was a fantastic actor, wildly famous, and extremely wealthy as far as everyone knew, but what you didn’t see behind the curtains was a person with too many issues known only by a few close people, such as her daughter. Christiana Crawford, Joan’s daughter, wrote a book about her childhood experience and then created it into a movie for everyone to understand why her mother was crazy. In the movie Mommie Dearest her psychological disorders shinned through, rather than her fame and fortune. Some specific personality disorders can easily be identified in some scenes from the movie such as: obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), borderline disorder, narcissistic disorder, and bipolar disorder.
The American Revolution is almost like the civil war but, it is split in three parts instead of two, happened in late 1700s. The movie, The Patriot, is a fictional movie that shows us the battles and life during American Revolution. Some people were forced to fight because their family members died and some did not fight because they did not wanted to risk their family even though both sides are die-hearted patriot. Family could make people do anything. The producers of the movie The Patriot, Dean Devlin, Mark Gordon, and Gary Levinsohn, chose a composite of different colonists, like Francis Marion, Colonel Daniel Morgan, Elijah Clark, Thomas Sumter, and Andrew Pickens, to make Benjamin Martin look better and the hero with no fault what-so-ever.
The film Sunset Boulevard (1950), directed by Billy Wilder, Norma Desmond exemplified a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) by being demanding, intense and unstable. These behaviors that are consistent with the elements of abnormality include suffering, social discomfort, dangerousness, and irrationality and unpredictability. The first element that is consistent with Norma Desmond’s character is suffering. Desmond being one of the greatest movie stars in history suffers as she experiences the fall from stardom. She also suffers from identity disturbance as she reaches an unstable self-image notion. In one scene when Desmond recognizes for a moment about her age, she claims, “Look at me. Look at my hands, look at my face, look under my
Two types of behaviour were shown towards the inmates on death row in The Green Mile, exhibiting the different uses of power. Guards Paul, Brutus, Dean and Harry treat the inmates with respect and in a well-mannered way, not aggravating them. Paul once said, “Men under strain can snap; hurt themselves,
The movie 8 Mile is about Jimmy Smith Jr, a white man who aspires to become a successful Hip Hop artist. He faces many challenges on his journey to reach his dream, but he does not let the struggles stop him from achieving his goal. The things he faced like having to move back in with his mom, “choking” on stage at his first battle at the shelter, and being doubted because his skin color was not the same as everyone else, for most people they would give up on their dream but Jimmy dug deep and overcame it all. In the beginning Jimmy breaks up with his girlfriend, leaving him without a car or a place to live.
Before watching the movie the “The Hammer” I didn’t know what to expect. I had never seen a deaf movie before and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to understand the movie completely. Watching the movie wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be, and I enjoyed it. The best part about it was that it’s based on the true story about Matthew “The Hammer” Hamill.

Although life may be at its worst, the sense of morality within, will still shine through. As John Coffey is on death row, his moral decisions shine past him. While Paul Edgecomb feels the need to help those around him, it also shines. The moral decisions both these characters make shows who they are inside, exposing their beliefs in life. This also shows that morality is subjective to those as everyone's decisions are based on something personal and their own worldviews for the certain situations. As morality is subjective; as it could be seen as offensive, but yet it can be seen as acceptable. John Coffey’s decision on allowing his gift to leave the world may be seen as offensive to most, but to John himself it is seen as acceptable because he was in pain. In addition to so, Paul Edgecomb’s decision to allow the execution of John may also seem as unacceptable, as he knew John was innocent, but as John himself wanted to leave the world, Paul allowed it. Many moral decisions throughout the film are double edge swords, as they can create benefits or adversity; in the end, morality between characters is embodied within the film The Green Mile, allowing them to make the choices best fitted for
The Green Mile is a 3-hour film of two halves: firstly, painting a vivid portrait of life on death row, and the trivialities that brighten up the lives of the people who live and die there. The second half of the movie is given to exploring Coffey himself: his past, his crime, and his powers. He is initially misunderstood by those around him, is convicted of a crime he did not commit, he greatly enriches the lives of those around him, and is eventually executed for refusing to proclaim his own innocence.

Filmed over the course of 12 years, Richard Linklater cast Ellar Coltrane as Mason as we follow his growth and childhood experience as he learns about life and himself. It sounds like an incredible idea and Linklater does deserve approbation for taking this approach, but 'Boyhood' fails to work as a character study. In fact, 'Boyhood' really does not have much to say besides "life goes by fast".
