The play by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, shows that Romeo and Juliet are too young to be blamed for their tragic and untimely end. This complex love story had no sole person to blame. While Romeo and Juliet were partly responsible despite their young age, there were many other factors that contributed to their deaths. Miscommunication and poor decisions from the Friar, the Nurse’s betrayal on Juliet, and the ongoing family feuding were all factors that ultimately led to the tragedy. Friar Lawrence was definitely one of the “key contributors” to Romeo and Juliet’s death. What he didn’t know was that his decisions would cause the death of two young adults. One example was where he decided to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret. He had the intentions of turning the “households’ rancour to pure love.” (2.3, Line 93) This thought was idealistic and unrealistic. The marriage by itself wasn’t going to make it all better. He should have waited and told their parents before he married them as breaking it to them after could have resulted in a fight. Another key decision he made that led to their deaths was when Juliet was told he had to marry Paris or else she would be disowned. She supported that Romeo and Juliet should marry. She was the messenger for them to communicate (2.4, 130-End of Scene). She arranged a lot of it and made sure Juliet was at Friar Lawrence’s place on time and in secret. She followed through with Romeo and Juliet’s plans which meant she could be trusted. Until, Romeo was banished from slaying Tybalt. Capulet all of a sudden makes the decision to bring the marriage forwards so that there could be a happy time to replace the sad.
