How many different types of mindsets are there? According to Dr. Skip Downing there are at least two major mindsets. He refers to them as Victims and Creators. What are the definitions of these types of mindsets? A Victim is someone who feels that they cannot influence their own outcomes in life and let things happen without trying to shape the result. A Creator is someone who consistently make choices that result in the outcome that they want. David Mirman has written an article that provides this clear example of Victim and Creator mindsets using the example of two college students searching for a textbook “The instructor asked them if they had the text. The first said “No, I do not have the textbook. I was not able to get it because the …show more content…
Another example is in regards to his schoolwork. He sometimes will plough through work that he doesn’t completely understand and then complain about his bad grade. When he does this he will never ask or accept help from other people. These are two examples of him exhibiting a Victim mindset.
A Creator is someone who consistently makes decisions to create the lives they wish to live, they do this by the decisions they make. My father exhibits qualities that fit this definition. One example of this is his decision to go through extra schooling in his field in order to better provide for himself and his family, he has taken many classes and courses in order to do this. Because of this decision he has been able to improve what kind of career and life he has, consequently my family and I benefit from those decisions every day. Another example is what he has done in order to advance in his career, he has told me before that in order to be where he is today he endured through many jobs that he despised. These examples show that my father has the mindset of a Creator.
After learning about the ways that a Creator thinks and approaches tasks I think that I can apply certain aspects of this mindset in my own life. One important place I can apply this is in regards to the way I approach my assignments from school or work. A Creator always finds solutions to problems that they may
In the introduction and first three steps of Dr. Kent Ingle’s book, Devine Design, provides a guide to help us guide our lives and find our divine design. In step one he explains how we must find the catalysts in our life. A catalyst is something that provokes or speeds a significant change or action (19). What Ingle is saying in this first step is that you cannot be afraid to take on the adventures of life. When a new adventure or opportunity arises be brave and say yes. No matter how terrifying the adventure looks do not sit by and let life slip through your fingertips. You must jump into life and make the effort to become what you are divinely designed to do. Furthermore, in step two of Dr. Ingle’s book there is an emphasis on self-reflection. The reason we must reflect is to promote self-discovery, and this creates progress in our lives. Finally, in step three Dr. Ingle covers the topic of making decisions about life. Decisions will come frequently and we must be ready to make both small and big decisions to progress in life.
Within "Shifting Out of The Drama Triangle: Victim vs. Creator Mindsets", by Donna Zajonc, the author's interpreation of "creator" is that an individual who possess the mindset will set their goal and find out what they need to do in order to achieve it. Through my time at Nellis AFB, there were times where I couldn't stand what my supervisors were having me accomplish for my day-to-day tasks. Although the work was time-consuming, repetitive detracted from my typical tasks, it aids in my overall task of earning Senior Airman Below-The-Zone which allows me to rank up 6 months
The atmosphere he grew up seldom showed any anger / aggression management. His father used to physically abuse him and his mother for very little mistakes. As a child, he learnt the only way to get rid of
He stated, “God is the first exemplar cause of all things. ”[21] God is an intelligent agent or first cause in order for creation to come into existence. The knowledge of God is revealed through the intricate details of nature and the divine order and beauty of the universe. He controls the movements of powerful celestial forces to orchestrating the gentle wave in a pond. Everything in the universe gives their testimony of God’s existence and he is known through creation.
To be a creator in life my mindset is focus on making sure I’m on time and organized for my day. Every morning when I wake up I remind myself about staying focus on my goals and playing the creator role to be successful in life. First, I make sure I wake up an hour and thirty minutes early before class to get myself organized before I leave the house. Afterwards, I take a normally routine shower to support my hygiene so I don’t be stinking in public I always try to sell myself the best I can. Then during the extra thirty minutes before class I drive to a local food restaurant for breakfast to make sure I have the right nutrition in my system before class so I don’t be moody just ready to learn. My attentions in my English 111 class are to pass the class with an A
Over the years in our country’s history it has been apparent that the idea of same sex marriages is becoming much more popular, however in most states there is still one thing stopping them. That one thing stopping two people from the pursuit of happiness which they desire is a social injustice. Social injustices are situations where a person or group of people is treated unfairly due to certain factors for example discrimination, prejudice, racism, heterosexism, sexism, and so forth. In the case of same sex marriages, the factor playing a major role in this social injustice is where most people believe that opposite sexes attract, but in the case of a same sex couple wanting to be married, this brings about many topics to be discussed by
While reading and learning more about creator language i learned that i do not use creator language. If anything i use my inner critic the more than anything. I find myself blaming myself more that i blame others, or even trying to find a solution to my problem. For example sometimes during math class last year i would be in class not off course, paying attention and when the facilitator gives us class work sometimes i just blank out even if i have notes, and i will start thinking negative thoughts about myself. My goal this year is to stop using victim language and start using a creator's language. I will accomplish this by asking more questions and going to touring if i need to for a subject. I will also do my best to figure how to get past
God created the universe, the earth and all life on earth. God’s characteristics are that he is a loving source who looks out for his people, whom believe in him and who follow his word. God has all the wisdom and peaceful intentions for his people. God created everything from the Universe, to the animals to human life as well as all life on earth, God created it all (Letellier, 2015). God is the creator of all life and the universe as well as all that exist within his creation.

There comes a time, in most citizens’ lives when they must stand against their government to produce change. Change can only be acquired if people take the necessary actions for it to take place. Nelson Mandela was a historical revolutionist who helped his people in Africa, to revolt against the government, in order to bring about change. As a result, he was sentenced to prison for 27 years for trying to overthrow the government. Many revolutionist, such as Arundhati Roy and Martin Luther King Jr., explain in their essays how the role of the citizen is to stand against injustice, and how the government labels them as anti-national because of it.
Often, environments that gay men grow up in do not foster the celebration of same-sex love. Adding in the stigmatization of being gay and the weight of the church in the Black community, can force gay men to leave their neighborhoods (or be pushed out). When people are not heard, they are forgotten and the Black community, the LGBT community, and mainstream society continually forget about Black gay men. Invisibility disparately impacts this group and causes them to experience homicide, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, and violence at a higher rate than non-Black gay men. This is largely true for Black gay men living in California. The Invisible Lives Project hopes to introduce stories of Black gay men in South Los Angeles who are at the intersection of racism, homophobia, and Black culture. Documenting the
Have you ever wondered why something bad ever happened in a person’s life, it is because they play the victim’s role instead of wising up and becoming a Creator. Skip Downing describes both a creator and victim in a well thought out piece. A victim is a person that blames everyone for all the bad things that happen in their life. Instead of accepting responsibilities for their mistakes they try to find a way out. A creator is a good, whole hearted person that brings new life into all situations. They try to think of the most positive outcome. A victim and a creator have two different mindsets, and they have different characteristics that makes them who they are (Downing ).
For the purpose of this essay I will be considering Nils Christie’s (1986) concept of the ‘ideal victim’. In considering this concept, I will discuss what is meant by an ‘ideal victim’ and will also be focusing on the high profile Australian criminal case of Anita Cobby in Blacktown on 2nd of February 1986. Anita Cobby was only 26 years old when she was abducted, brutally raped and murdered by four ‘ideal offenders’. This essay will also consider, the ways in which the media and criminal justice system have constructed Anita Cobby as an ‘ideal victim’.
Burma, like many other Southeast Asian nations, is a land of much culture and diversity of ethnic groups. Unfortunately, unlike the people of other nations, the people of Burma have been stripped of their human rights. Since the military junta had overtaken the Burmese government in 1988, the people of Burma have been among the most oppressed people in the world. The continuation of the government’s brutality has caught the attention of many outside nations around the world who increasingly have been intervening in Burma’s issues to help its people. As these occurrences are a major issue for the people of Burma, these problems are not restricted to its boundaries. They are also becoming a problem for
Oppression signifies an authority over another group, disengaging that particular group from the rest of society. “The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination, personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade most aspects of life in our society” (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual orientation. These cultural minorities experience inequality where a dominant culture casts its authority and power through exercises of unjust and cruel methods; these methods have been experienced through the Women’s Movement, the
