In the marshmallow group activity that we had, I learned a lot of things that will be beneficial for my success in my eighth grade year. There were many things that went well and things that didn’t go well. And from these observations, I can directly find ways to change my views on collaboration for my eighth grade school year to be successful. For example, something that went satisfactorily was when we were first building the tower for the marshmallow. When we were first building it we had a great success as we were building one of the tallest towers in the class (it eventually came crashing down), and this was because we first planned out what would work and what learning techniques we needed to apply just like if we were …show more content…
For example our group sometimes got off topic while talking with each other and it was challenging for us to get back on topic, this made us realize that we needed to stay on topic to make sure that we are getting the most quality work done and what we wanted to get out of this project. Secondly, we ran into an issue with not communicating about what plan we should use when we were planning during our plan time, for instance the weight of the marshmallow was not accounted for and was like a brick crashing down on the spaghetti which was as thin and weak. This made our tower crashing down and made us very disappointed As we analyzed these things that worked and didn’t work, I decided to see what we will change in future collaborative groups. Firstly, we decided as a group that the tower crashing down was a result of us not using our plan correctly. To change this we decided that we needed more communication which we had and needed more of as well. Secondly, as a group I think we need to in the future make sure we are not off topic and to focus on building the tower because that is one of the reasons why our tower came crashing down, it felt like we were working
For the group presentation, my group determined that the Loblaw/Joe Fresh crisis was the most interesting of the given topics. This crisis was the 2013 Savar building collapse or Rana Plaza collapse. The collapse of the building was a structural failure that occurred on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013. I believe that my group was able to work fairly well with one another. One major reason why the group was able to be successful was that as soon as the assignment was handed out, my group was able to discuss a possible plan that would be followed out to complete the group project. We decided the best method would be to split up the work equally so that we could finish it early and be able to collaborate on what we would include in the slides for
One of my most notable teamwork experiences was my participation in Future Farmers of America (FFA). This organization helped me develop extensive leadership qualities and personal growth, in which are a vital component for academic and career success. Through this program, I gained hands-on experience serving the chapter as an FFA Executive Committee Member and a Vineyard Manager. As an FFA Executive Committee Member, I gained self-confidence and immersed myself in new experiences, such as learning how to direct events and to promote involvement in FFA. Therefore, my primary objective was to inspire others to become active within the school campus and the community. To do this, I inspired students to share their ideas freely and comfortably
Sam Born was a candymaker and immigrated to the United States from France. He introduced French Chocolates to New York City. He opened a small retail store and factory that was called “Just Born.” In 1953, his factory created the marshmallow peeps with some help from another candy company, Rodda, that had a small marshmallow line. The marshmallow peep was made by hand-squeezing marshmallow through pastry tubes. It used to take 27 hours to do just one package, and today it only takes 6 minutes.
Can our childhood determine the amount of success we will have in our lives? This is what psychologist Walter Mischel wanted to find out in his experiment called “The Marshmallow Test” he started this experiment in the early 1970s. What he did was give preschoolers a marshmallow and told them if they waited fifteen minutes without eating it then he would give them two. Later research found that the children who waited were more successful, but did this test really determine that the children would be more successful than those who failed? The children who waited showed delayed gratification and those who couldn 't resist did not. Mischel followed these preschoolers until they were grown up and he found that they were very successful and able to have self-control. This experiment proves delayed gratification and how the children who waited became more successful in life, but recent studies prove that this test could just be a result in strategic reasoning.
As president of Henderson County 4-H, part of my office was to collaborate with my officers and the officers of the clubs in my county. This collaboration offered me counsel for wise decisions, and gave me insights into the desires and needs of the members of Henderson County 4-H. Knowing the needs and desires for the future of 4-H in Henderson County, allowed me to effectively and accurately represent the members of my county. Another big teamwork activity I participated in was being an assistant leader at District 5 Yes Camp. I was the only assistant leader from my county, so I had only met the five other assistant leaders that night. We were required to collaborate together and come up with fun games for the 4-Her’s to compete in for time they were at camp. At the end of the camp, not only did the 4-Her’s have fun, but we as the assistant leaders had fun as well. The final teamwork activity I would like to talk about is when I was placed in charge of two teams of junior 4-Her’s and charged with the responsibility of educating them in the robotics project. I had always wanted to learn more about the Robotics project, but this was the first time it would be available in my
Desire is a sense of hoping for something. However why is it that having the ability to postpone a desire is considered an alluring quality? Many Psychologists have been working on answering this very question for decades. Through these years the discovered information’s been that if an individual could control their inner desire, they would be more likely to have self-discipline, higher SAT scores and even be more successful in their life. Delayed gratification is the person’s ability to control his/her desire for something for a prolonged period of time.
When the project was first introduced and we were out in a group together, we immediately discussed topics that we could present on. At the time, we did not choose a topic, but the following day we were able to find a topic that we all enjoyed researching and presenting on. Once we had a topic to present on, we split up the work evenly between us and started a google docs so we could post our notes and completed work online. This process was very dependent on every member of the group contributing to the end goal of presenting our finished project. For the most part we completed our respective tasks and was able to complete our presentation on why health care should be free. Our group did not communicate very much, this highlighted the interdependence
The goals of this activity are that the students would be able work together to get on the other side of the blanket. They will learn to work as a team and why its important to work as a team.
The marshmallow challenge required groups of four to work together and construct a method to use 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of string and tape, and a marshmallow to go on top of it. As a reflection on my group’s efforts to complete this challenge, we had many things went well and didn’t go well. Some things that did not go well were the spaghetti starting to break as we put it together and that our structure was not stable all the way through. Although we had a variety different ideas to contribute to the group, we all collaborated and worked together to pursue an outcome that included everyone’s thoughts. This was one of many things that went well; some others were that had enough supplies to complete that challenge and our structure
Next time I think I would like to push a little harder with the collaboration and have more of a deadline set with the other group members as to when things have to be finished by . It felt like the most collaboration we had was via email instead of on the group wiki, which was a little disappointing. A lot of the time I felt like I was talking to myself on the wiki and discussion board.
My group was very successful, we achieved and “A” on approximately all of our assignments. Our group was successful for a few different reasons, first and foremost our communication skills we proficient as a team. We discussed every assignment and acknowledge each others opinions; in addition to this we also decided the focus of our group. Moreover another thing that made us successful was the fact that we were all friends. This was extremely advantageous to us. However is also had an adverse effect on us, often we would carry on conversations that would lead us to disregard our responsibilities. Despite this minor draw back I still found this to be advantageous, when we did work we preformed and a efficient level.
My feelings about the group process was a little mix at first but, at the end I felt like we actually brought it together. Beginning of the group member were all over the place and had no direction, when we were able to take a breather in just think ideas started to flow. I felt like that took the communicator to make it happen. By reinsuring the other group members that everything will go smoothly if we just don’t overthink everything.
This about how to work with groups and other team members, most of the time it is hard to do but with our jobs nowadays we have to do what we have to do. I like working with others for the most part, especially when they are motivated in getting the job done in a timely manner. Then we have some that just don’t want to help but want everybody else to do their work for them.
As a whole, I believe our group worked well together. “This is a very functional group, I like it,” in Nandin-Erdene’s words. During the discussions, all of the members of our group fully contributed and shared their point of views. During the research, we were given the assignment of finding possible solutions to our problem, which was economic crisis in Mongolia. My teammates at the time was distracted with the school’s annual Talent Show, and didn’t state new solutions besides the ones we already discussed. I knew something like this would happen, so I took careful planning in advance. I offered possible solutions that would be efficient, and in the end, we finalized our solutions.
Due to lack of drama management (as it was a mini project), everybody was involved in everything and this lead to lack of coordination and distraction from the goal that we wanted to achieve. This also lead to time loss, low output and concentration. Participants would go away on their own tangent and involve
