Unbroken was written in 2010 by Laura Hillenbrand and later adapted into a movie in 2014. It is a story about a young Olympian named Louis “Louie” Zamperini, who made it into the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He later gets drafted into the Air Force and fought in World War II; only to get stranded in the ocean and captured by the Japanese. The book and the movie both cover the same main topics and are over the same events, but they aren’t both the same. The book goes into more detail than the movie in many instances; however, sometimes the movie shows a more detailed and powerful scene when compared to the book.
In Outliers, Gladwell attempts to answer, What makes some people successful while others cannot seem to realize their full potential? In U.S. society, people are considered successful when they have traits and characteristics: self-sacrifice, intelligence, talent. However, He says that the conditions and circumstances surrounding our lives are the significant influential factors that determine our success, not our inner ability or talent. These talents and abilities allow these people to be separate from society.
Louie Zamperini finds himself in a world of trouble in the darkest settings when numerous things don’t go his way. Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken, is a powerful, interesting non-fiction piece that presents Louie and Phil in a difficult, life-threatening battle for survival. The two men survive a devastating plane crash in the middle of the ocean, and they are forced to work together to pull through. Following that, they are sent to Japanese camps where they do exhausting labor, get terribly beaten, and aren’t allowed much food. The two stranded soldiers find their determination from god, their families, and a few unexpected friends.

Although this novel has been a joy to read thus far, I had a lot of trouble writing this response because I was not exactly certain what I thought of it, and how it related to the topics being discussed in class. This may be attributed to the reverse chronological order in which the events of the novel are presented. However, the wonderful flashbacks that Julia Alvarez uses to spice-up the novel through dialogue between the characters and omniscient narration, helps to connect the past and future of the members of the Garcia family.
In the first half of the historical nonfiction novel, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini endures many hardships in his life. These struggles make me feel sorry for him and the trouble he is in. As a child, he was unable to fit in, his peers considered him “a bad kid”. Louie would unfortunately steal things on the streets, and consistently get into fights with others, commonly for no reason at all. However, the positive side to his actions, was the speed and running ability he built up. I felt relieved when his brother encouraged his participation on the school track team. In a nutshell, Louie was a natural star. His large, skinny frame and long frame gave him ideal running characteristics. No longer was Louie a bad kid, he was a

In 2015, over 670,000 children spent time in U.S. foster care ("Children 's Rights"). The current foster care system has been a failing system for many years. Many children are neglected or put into abusive homes. Many foster homes have several children residing in them. Which means many kids have mental illnesses, or get into drugs. These kind of situations do not allow kids to get the proper care they need. While many reforms of the system have been put into play, most have failed to make a change. People across the country should join the Children 's Rights movement to ensure safety for current and future generations.
20 years ago marching all the way from Argentina to Brazil downing everything in sight. We finally found what looks like heaven in our eyes. We weren't the biggest in the jungle, but we took over everything, nothing stopped us. Whatever got in our way we destroyed and took over. Until, we finally came across with someone who was smart enough to put up a good fight. His name was Leiningen, the only man who has ever defeated us. We put up a good fight, but Leiningen was too intelligent to defeat.
“Jailen is the best player in the nation now bringing new basketball to the game”. “Yeah playing just like his brother used to….maybe even better”. “Jailen had some hard times with his Mom, Dad, and Brother dying all in the same night” “ the game is on the Line 5….4….3….2….1….”.
In 1820, great change began to sweep through the United States in the form of the Industrial Revolution. This brought about electrifying change in America, and the possibilities of city life were intriguing to those of the time. The city alluded to curiosity, independence, and endless possibility. The introduction of new technologies, changing ideals, and the rush of urbanization, while exciting, also brought controversy and the fear of large city life. The rush from a rural to urban lifestyle caused confusion and the need for instant conformity. Among some of the first to voice these concerns in their work were writers of the time such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both authors recognize the unpredictable, destructive aspects that are associated with rapid urban growth and use similar literary styles to convey these to their readers through the misperception and anxiety associated with urbanization. Hawthorne writes of the protagonist search for conformity, and the toxic results that can derive from the inability to attain it. Poe, however, chooses to concentrate his writing on the risks of indistinctness in a crowd, and the damaging effect that strict conformity can have on urban residents.
For the most part, I believe the director made the right choice in cutting certain aspects from the story. To set up the plot the director include how the lineage of the Usher family dies with the twins and a description of Roderick's symptoms.
