I will be reading and review “Farm wife, 1900” by Holt, Hamilton. This is a primary story of a farmer’s wife and how her typical day went on the farm. She discusses her relationship with her husband first and how his mindset is. The wife wants to learn more and be more than a farmer’s wife, however she has the loyalty of staying in the marriage and working to make her husband happy. Then she goes on and starts to talk about her day and how she starts it with cleaning and cooking. Then she cleans more and take care of the animals and kids. She does all this while her husband is working the fields. Then as the day goes on, if something goes astray then she handles it and continues with cleaning and getting the next meal prepared. This is a secondary source about how women were becoming aware of their possibilities and their ambitions. This isn’t specifically about farming; however, it is about how women started to realized that they could do greater things in life than just be a wife. This is discussing the time period where women’s suffrage picked up and lead the revolution of rights for women. It showed that they were wanting more in life. This refers back to how both women wanted to be something more. Mrs. Hossack didn’t like her husband and wanted to go somewhere else; while, Mrs. Wright wanted to be happy and be herself again.
