Growing up in Chicago, I attended a neighborhood school from preschool through first grade. Although it was an exceptional school for elementary kids, the education for middle school and high school students was not as adequate. Seeking a better place to raise their children, my parents were faced with a tough choice. When I was in 2nd grade, our family made the decision to move to the suburbs. At the end of my first grade year, I moved away from the small, rural town near Vienna where I had lived since I was born. On my first day of school at Lincoln Elementary, I quickly made friends with two girls in my class named Pam and Kelly. Pam and Kelly introduced me to their group of friends that were all in our second grade class. For the rest of the school year, this group of friends was who I played on the playground with everyday and talked to in the classroom. After a great first year of school in Marion, the time came for my third grade year. Every year at Lincoln, there is a day that is close to the beginning of the school year where the students can come to the school to meet their new teacher and look at the class list to see which of their friends is in their class. On that morning, I went to Lincoln to find out who my new teacher was. To my dismay, I found out that all of my friends from second grade had a different teacher than I did. After finding out that I was not in class with any of my friends, I knew that I would have to find a new friend to talk to in my third grade class in addition to having all of my friends from second grade. I was a very shy kid. Making friends wasn’t my cup of tea when I was younger. Based on this you can imagine how nervous I was when we moved. Joseph Campbell wrote in The Hero With a Thousand Faces, “It is only when a man tames his own demons that he becomes the king of himself if not of the world.” I was preparing to start school again in August when I decided it would be smart to begin associating with kids my age in the area; so, I began spending time with my cousin Lief. Coming to eighth grade on the first day was slightly scary for me. I was afraid that I wouldn’t have any friends on the same team as me and that I wouldn’t have a class with any friends. When I arrived to the homeroom, school didn’t start off as bad as I thought it would. Apparently I had more than one friend in my homeroom, which made things less awkward for the first time being in class.

I was born May, 30th 1989 at Wadley Medical in Texarkana, Ar. I was born to Kym Crispino from Queens, NY and William Lee of Hot Springs, Ar. My parents were young when they had me. We were very poor at times, but they always made sure I had what I needed. I was an only child, but grew up around plenty of cousins. I have lived in Texarkana my entire life. My parents split up when I was twelve, and my mother and I moved out into the country on a dead-end street with no children in the area, I became very sheltered and a little socially awkward.

It was the year 2008, I had just graduated from St. Michael’s School located in Los Angeles, CA. This year was quite exhilarating for me also scary because I was going to attend an all-girls high school. Los Angeles was my birth place also a place where I called home. One day, I came home to hearing my parents talking about moving to Mississippi. I remained devastated, not only we were moving to the south, I’m moving away from childhood friends. I was worried I wouldn’t see them again and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to make new friends in Mississippi.

I moved to Arizona from Boston in 2014. We have moved around before, but this was different. We were going across the country. I was sad to leave everything I knew behind for someplace I didn’t really know about. We moved in July, and as August came closer and closer, I got more nervous. Would I sit alone at lunch? Would I like my teachers? As any 6th grader would be before the first day of school, I was scared and a bit nervous. I was pretty shy, always hiding myself in books. So I was relieved to find that we wouldn’t have to find our classes alone on the first day. I was dreading lunch, but I put it out of my mind. That day, in fact, I met one of my best friends. I managed to survive my first day of middle school. And the next. And the next. I even got good grades in math! I sometimes struggle, and did previously, in math.

I was born on October 23rd, 1999 very early in the morning the very first person to carry me was my dad. When I two years old me and my mom moved to Las Vegas, and lived there for about 6 years then soon move back to California. That was in early the early 2000’s when that happened . Few years past by then my sister was born June 23rd, 2005. I was staying with my cousin at the time until she was born then I went to see my sister on the day she was born.

Hello, I am Shannon Stice. I was born on December 23, 1999. I come from a very big family. My parents are Darren and Teresa Stice. I have one brother and his name is Brendan. He is a freshman. That is not big at all but my parents come from big families. They are both the youngest of six. That means my grandparents (that are still alive) are very old and that I am one of the youngest in my family.

I was born on December, 27, 2003 in Dubuque, Iowa. When I was born, I had no brothers or sisters. I only had my mom and dad (My Mom’s name is Amy, and my dad’s name is Tim). My interests when I was younger was sports, because my uncles always played sports and for their baseball teams I was the bat boy. I went to Key West for my daycare and preschool. My first time ever walking was when I was about nine months old. My first word was ball because I was always at the baseball field watching my uncles.

I was going to Brentwood Middle School when I got the news. I was just starting to find my friend group. Then I was told I would be transferring to a new group of schools. I would be moving 20 minutes down the road into a little town called Nolensville. When I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I would have to transfer schools again after I finished my freshman year. During my sophomore year of high school, I began at Nolensville. This school and town have changed me in ways I never thought it would.

The school was very far away, inside this old neighborhood, and was on the other side of Columbia; while we were passing the neighborhood, I had this eerie feeling and I didn’t like it, I knew from there this isn’t going to be a fun experience. My sister, my mom, and I got inside the school and were settled in from there; my 5th grade teacher name was Karen Bowling and she was the sweetest and kindest teacher, if it wasn’t for her I probably wouldn’t get comfortable with the new school and new environment that quickly. I made a few friends but still was shy and reserved, but I made a best friend that year her name was Kathryn Hamm. She had the same thinking like I did, she was funny, and we got attached quickly but by mid year things changed. I suddenly gained a lot of weight; I started looking very healthy, I had hair on my face,

I am Skylair Caitlin Orr, I am 22 years old and am the daughter of Taunya and Marty Orr. I am lucky to say that my parents are still together rather than being divorced as so many parents are today. They had three children together, including myself. I am the middle child and I have two sisters. My older sister is 27 years old and works as a special education teacher at Mark Twain Elementary school. She is divorced and has two children: my niece who is eight years old and my nephew who is two years old. I spend a lot of my time with my niece and nephew.      Once my family and I arrived at our new house I was still very saddened because of the move and had trouble not getting mad at my parents. Summer went bye like it wasn’t even there and by the time school started I was very depressed. The new school I was going to was Naperville North High School which was about ten times the size of my old school in Pennsylvania in size and in the number of students. In my school in Pennsylvania there were about twelve students in each class, here the number runs around thirty two. The school building was so big I had a lot of trouble getting to class on time let alone finding them in the building. The school wasn’t what I was bothered by the most because it was the fact that I didn’t have any social life and I was a social person.
