The Leading Causes Of The American Civil War

Slavery makes people that are confident and people that think they can do anything, make them feel like they can't do anything and make them not confident.

In 1861, a Civil War broke out in the United States when the South declared their independence from the Union. There is a great amount of reasons that people can argue how the Civil War was started. However, what most people don’t understand, is that most of the events leading up to the Civil War were related to slavery. Slavery was the core of the North and South’s conflict, which led to a very vicious feud.

The American Civil War started in 1861 and ended in 1865. The two sides of the war are the Union (North) and Confederacy (South). The South wanted to keep slavery to maintain their economy and they worried that the North would end slavery. The South then seceded, starting the conflict. Around 620,000 people died in the war. Both sides of the war had advantages and disadvantages in the Civil War. Population in the South was small because it was based around farming communities, putting them at a disadvantage because they had fewer people to make up their army. Tensions over slavery dated back to the contradictory nature of the American Revolution of 1776 that resulted in a republic simultaneously committed to freedom for whites and bondage for blacks (Barney W., p. 61). The Civil War was the war that divided the young American nation into two opposing sides. One side being the North, also called the Union, and the second side being the South, also called the Confederacy. The root cause of why the South seceded from the Union has been debated and argued since the beginning of the war in 1861. Most people argue that the argument, between the North and the South, over slavery was the main reason why the South left the Union. However, the issue has to be more complex than just the issue with slavery. The root cause of the of the South secession from the Union was a combination of the South’s aggravation and fear over their dependence on the North for their economic prosperity and their dependence on slavery for a highly profitable economy.

The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the country began. Some causes include; states’ rights, economics, and slavery. The most recognizable and popular cause is slavery. The freeing of the slaves was an important moral issue at the time and one of the greatest causes of the civil war. "It was only by carefully avoiding the moral issue involved in slavery that Northerners and Southerners could meet on any common ground." (Goldston, 79). The time came in which our great country would finally address the moral issue of slavery. Although there are many different causes to the American Civil War, the main cause was slavery because other causes are rooted in the issue of slavery.

Today, one main subject still debated by historians is the primary cause of the Civil War. Most people will argue that the indisputable reason for the War was centered on slavery. While slavery definitely played a significant role in the Civil War, it was not the only cause of the war. The essential cause of the Civil War consisted of an ongoing political battle between the States’ Rights versus the Federal Rights. Due to the political battle, other probable reasons for the Civil War began to develop such as slavery and the differences in the Northern and Southern economies.

From 1861 to 1865 our nation had suffered a major crisis. One nation divided into two sides due to the different views on slavery and economic conflicts. The North wanted to abolish slavery while the South wanted to keep slavery. The North's economy was growing and getting better due to industrialization while on the other hand, the South’s economy was slowly starting to decrease since they were mostly based on agriculture. But the 3 major events that caused the civil war were slavery, social differences, and economic differences.

Lincoln's election went well and he became president of the United states but after a few months after that seven states had seceded from the Union. Many of these states believed and maintain that the primary cause of the war was the Southern states wanted to keep the institution of slavery. Others minimize slavery and point to other factors, such as taxation or the principle of States' Rights.South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. Many People don’t realize that there are many things that led up to the Civil War. But what were they? The differences between the Northern states and the Southern states were the main causes that led to the Civil War. They both developed differently from each other. The North developed factories, ways to transport goods, and industry, while the Southerners were mainly farmers and plantation owners.

There were many events leading up to the war that split the country in two. Everyone has their own personal opinion about which two were the biggest cause of the civil war. In my opinion, Bleeding Kansas and Harper's Ferry were the biggest cause of the Civil War.

This war came from the extreme separation that was in the country, which came from regional differences and overwhelming sectionalism that was present in the United States. Overall, the country in the 1800s was ripe for a civil war, the issues of slavery, states’ rights, and sectionalism all contributed to the Civil War finally breaking out. The American Civil War occurred due to the accumulation of many different issues in the United States society, but a select few stand out as the obvious reasons. The election of 1860 and politics in general, the controversial Dred Scott decision and racial tensions in America, and the entire issue of Fort Sumter and the clash that occurred there, are the three main causes of the Civil War, but ultimately, the election of 1860, and the inevitable inauguration of Abraham Lincoln, is the most important and divisive cause of the Civil War due to the events it caused after the fact.
