The book The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch had a lot of inspiration and intelligence to offer. This book is about more than just a dying man. It teaches the importance of overcoming obstacles, following your childhood dreams and taking advantage of the great moments life has to offer. I learned a lot and plan to apply it to my life. The chapter that I related to the most was chapter 59 Dreams for my Children (page 191, 196). In this chapter Randy discussed each of his children individually. Chloe is Randy’s youngest, and only daughter. He sadly admits in the chapter that since Chloe is so young, she may have no memory of him (page 193). Randy just wanted Chloe to grow up knowing that he was the first man to fall in love with her. This chapter means so much to me because my dad plays a huge role in my life. I couldn’t imagine my life growing up without my dad. Writing this paper right now, thinking about what my life would have been like without my dad makes me tear up. Randy writes “I’d always thought the father/daughter thing was overstated. Sometimes, she looks and me and I just become a puddle.” (Page 193). A father/daughter relationship is important for self-esteem, self-image, and relationships for the daughter later in life. …show more content…

This chapter explained something to me that I never thought about. Randy explained what a bad apology is. I learned that there are two bad apologies. The first kind is “I’m sorry you feel hurt by what I’ve done.” (Page 162). Apologizing like this seems like the person apologizing does not want to take responsibility for what they have done. The second kind of bad apology is “I apologize for what I did, but you also need to apologize to me for what you’ve done”. (Page 162). This second apology is bad because you can’t force someone to apologize. When the other person feels ready, they will come
