The Final Hours As I lay comfortably in bed staring at the ceiling above me, tears begin to fill my eyes. This will be the last time I wake up to the sound of the birds singing their beautiful melodies outside of my window, the last time I will smell the fresh cut flowers on my bedside table that my children innocently stole from the neighbor’s yard, and it will be the last time I will see their sweet smiling faces. Today will be the last day of my life. “Mommy, mommy, mommy!” my thoughts are abruptly interrupted, “Look, we made you breakfast!” As I sit up I try to inconspicuously wipe the tears away, I see my sweet Kylie carrying a plate with scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, and toast, nearly dropping it on the floor with her excitement. Hurrying behind her is Jaxon with a handful of fresh flowers; for only 3 years old he sure is growing up to be quite the gentleman. “Wow, all of this for me? You two are the best kids in the world” I told them. They climb up the bed to sit on each side of me. I place the plate on my lap and add the flowers to the others in the vase on my bedside table. “Well, daddy helped a little bit” says Jaxon. I look up and see my loving husband standing in the doorway, “Come on daddy there’s enough room for you, too. You can sit next to me” Kylie says to her father. Sean walks over and flops on the bed playfully causing the kids and I to bounce up as if we were on a trampoline; we all burst out into laughter. I finish the last few bites on my plate and
In Homer's The Odyssey, he portrays Odysseus, the hero of the story, as clever and brave. Nobody wants a hero to lose so Homer gives him admirable traits so that readers find themselves rooting for him. On the other hand Polyphemus, the monster, is made to be hostile, beast-like and dimwitted. He makes Odysseus look brave and heroic.
My first art portfolio, my favorite keychain, my broken bike…1.2.3. No one ever speaks to you about your own ending. How you die is left up to your own imagination. To you, your death can maybe either be due to a glorious, heroic act in which you met a righteous end or a pathetic closing to what you may believe to be a pretty uneventful existence. No one speaks about endings in general, though. Endings only tend to make us feel anything but content. Yet we dream on, foolishly writing silly ends to our lives, forgetting that the ends we create may be plausible one day. College, family, career…1.2.3. My breaths get weary, my heart slows from boisterous thuds to faint, lethargic thumps. Bright rays gleam above, showering me in what is meant to be warmth, but all I feel is cold. My freezing limbs waft slowly within the water, my feet dangling below, my hair flowing behind. My mother’s laughter, my father’s tears of joy, my friends’ bright smiles…1.2.3. I never dreamt my foolish imagination would collide with the inevitable so soon. My days of compiling were over, my good days, my sad days, my sweet, sweet mundane days, would soon come to an end…Air, air, air, air,
The smell of fresh herbs filled the air around her as the sun shone down on her back, a sense of tranquility fell upon her in the lush, backyard garden. A soft tune could be heard from inside the house where the radio played. Tante Lou hummed along to the music while she snipped off sprigs of parsley to use in the meal she is preparing for her nephew, Grant, and his guest. Today was a special day. It’s the first time Tante Lou is meeting her nephew’s girlfriend, Vivian, and she wants to make a wonderful dinner for them all to enjoy while getting to know each other.
As we were packing the last of our things into a U-Haul truck and saying goodbye to our friends, I suddenly got sad because I would be leaving what I knew. So as I took the last breath
The sweet aroma of a freshly baked cake circulates through every room of the small house as the cake sits on the stove top to cool. Colorful balloons are decoratively and strategically placed all over the living room and the kitchen as Kaitlyn prepares for her best friend, Sarah’s, birthday celebration. Strolling through each room, Kaitlyn scans the product of her tireless preparation. Filled with a sense of satisfaction and approval of her work, Kaitlyn sits down on the comfortable black couch listening to the crackle of the fireplace beside her, relaxing for a few minutes before a swarm of guests begin to arrive. However, just as Kaitlyn sinks into the cushions, an anxious knock at the front door interrupts her peace. Making her way to the front door, Kaitlyn
The first chapter of “The Maze Runner” really gets me excited for the rest of the book. I enjoy how it leaves the reader plenty of room to wonder what will happen later in the book. It has an interesting vocabulary that includes some of the slang words that the people of the glade made up. It seems that the plot of the book will quicken very quickly as already there is a lot of foreshadowing hinting toward some unknown beast and a giant maze. I predict that Thomas’s arrival will trigger some sort of issue that he will have to resolve. Just the first chapter has gotten me very excited for the rest of the book.
Afterwards, the played dress up. The pretended to go shopping, being Mom and Daughter. However, there was a small argument about who would be Mom. It was not the only tiff they had. There were several, but they always managed to compromise and continue play. They played for about 45 minutes until Isabel’s friend’s mom came to pick her up. They were both very disappointed that it was time for the friend to leave. They asked for sleep over’s but this day was not good. The friend began to cry because she did not want to leave. They pleaded for more time. Both Moms explained they could play another day and that next time Isabel could go over to friend’s house and do manicures. They were very happy with that arrangement.
One morning, Lisa Gross’ daughter wakes up with a stomach ache and fever. As Lisa calls into work, her daughter, Carly, sighs of relief knowing that her mom is going to be there to comfort and take care of her. Soon the sweet smell of freshly brewed coffee and cinnamon buns fills the house. Lisa’s and Carly’s girl’s day begins. Crafts of all different shapes and colors cover the dining room table like presents under a Christmas tree, and the two are both anxious to start their projects. Lisa and Carly joke and chuckle together as if they’re sisters. Over the course of the day, Carly not only feels better, but has a smile across her face with her rosy cheeks standing out. Lisa heart was warmed knowing how much this day meant to her.
I set down my computer not knowing what to write about. It was almost time for school and I was exhausted. I looked at the alarm clock it was 6:30 a.m. Just then my mom walked into my bedroom and said, “Time to get up Spencer. It’s the last day of school for you, before we move to Malibu. How long have you been awake?” I thought for a moment. “About an hour, but I can explain. I needed to think of ideas for the book I’m writing.” I said. She looked at me with rage, “Spencer! A growing girl needs a lot of sleep!” I stood up from my desk, and went to my dresser. “I’m going to get dressed,” I said as my mom walked out of the room. I opened my top dresser drawer, and pulled out a white tank top with black polka dots in it. As I put my new shirt
Today, when the children arrived at the nursery, it was Sophie’s turn to be the special helper. She collected the board from the door and took the register as normal. There were 9 children in the yellow bumblebee group today so we all helped her draw 9 circles by counting them as she went along. Karen asked the children what the weather was like outside today and they all shouted that it was raining so Sophie selected the umbrella from the wall and stuck it down beside the date. The children sang Frere Jacques because it was raining, some of them didn’t really know the words but they gave it a pretty good go. Welcome time was a bit shorter today because time had to be made to fit in practicing for their nativity which was called Whoops-a-daisy
Take a look in a book and you shall find a piece. A hearts behind each letter we read and everything we see. The question we ask every mere day of our lives is never truly answered. We want to know in every breath, “How does it end today”
No time to give my breakfast another try, it is what it is. I got to eat what I have. Aaht aahht bloooot. My best friend Alana is here. I better not forget anything and make it to her car in a next minute, or we will be late for school. Running to her car, I got distracted by a beautiful sunshine. My dad’s sparkly blue eyes appeared in front of me. I was remembering his words: “Darling, see this sunshine? As long as you are blessed to see it, you should be happy.” I am happy, dad. Alana caught me looking helpless while I was putting my faded orange tennis bag in her trunk. She knew what I needed, but couldn’t help me. She knew how much I appreciate my family’s sacrifice and how grateful I am for everything I have.”I am healthy, have great family and supportive friends, God by my side, and an opportunity to pursue my dreams of graduating from college and becoming a professional tennis player”, I would always say. Alana

A sense of urgency forced us to walk quickly, but I wasn’t sure where I was leading us to. A park appeared like an oasis, so I headed in that direction. Lily looked at me with passive puppy dog eyes as I plopped her onto the bench. As soon as I present the carrots, her eyes grew wide with wonder. “How did you find the carrots Ava?” "It’s a magic trick little one.” I ate the apple to the core, and was licking my sticky fingers clean, as a passerby stopped, took a long stare and didn’t hesitate to ask “How old are you little girls?” I quickly barked “I’m not a little girl, I’m twelve.” I picked up Lily so we could quickly leave the park, but put her down as soon as the passerby was out of
