In the (Background Essay) it notifies that “The idea wasn’t new. The Chinese introduced woodblock printing in 600 CE.” This exploration inspired Gutenberg, and saw his chance to reform it into something even better. This made him ask himself “Why not metal letters that wouldn’t wear out, set in a frame that could be inked, papered and pressed?” in the (Background Essay). The purpose of this essay is to explain whether the exploration or reformation of the printing press was the more important consequence.
In 1846, a man named Richard Hoe invented the steam cylinder rotary press. This new innovation in technology made the process of newspaper printing both fast and low cost. The steam cylinder rotary press along with the telegraph made the collection and distribution of news faster that ever thought possible, which led to the formation of the Associated Press in 1846. Gathering information by wire, newspaper publishers from around the nation were able to work cooperatively, which facilitated in the emergence of major metropolitan newspapers, containing national and international events. These major metropolitan newspapers, such as Horace Greeley’s Tribune, and James Gordon Bennett’s Herald, were available in the larger Northeast cities and even circulated far beyond the cities because of the steam rotary press’s speed and low cost efficiency. The availability of national and world news was an important factor in unifying Americans across the union however; the major newspapers were located in the North. Southern newspapers generally had very small budgets and could not reach the masses like their Northern counterparts, which means Southern newspapers had little or no impact outside of their own communities. This new rise in journalism also proved to be a factor that reinforced the South’s sense of insecurity within the
(Hook) There have been many milestones that have changed human communication, from the invention of sign language to the development of the internet. (Bridge) One of those milestones was the Printing Press. (Background) The Printing Press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in Germany during the year 1450. By 1500, more than 20 million books were printed.
The printing press was one of the most important inventions in human history. It brought the world out of the dark ages, improved literacy, standardized languages, made maps infinitely more accurate and even improved the scientific community. Possibly the biggest impact that the printing press had during this time was its effect on religion. New translations of the bible were printed, the protestant reformation made possible, and several new religions would come about as a direct result of the invention of the printing press. The invention shook the foundation of knowledge, religion, and foundation, and it continues to do so to this day.

Evaluating sources: Synthesis Essay Understanding how to analyze the quality of information and the sources they stem from is very important when writing professional papers. Everyday people read newspapers and books, but where did printing begin? The movable type printing press by Johannes Gutenberg made this all possible. Johannes first conceived of this idea of the printing press in the 15th century in order to speed up the slow process of producing books (Bantwal). This includes challenging the church and poisoning people with the increased toxins from mass products of materials. Print capitalism led to the idea of a nation as “imagined”, “political”, and “community” because it allowed for capitalistic entrepreneurs to print their books and media in the vernacular as opposed to the exclusive script languages like Latin.
