Different plants grow in different environments. Their differences are accommodated by their environment. There should be an understanding that students are the same way. Each student thrives in different environments of learning. Alicia is a sixth grade student who is not thriving in her environment. She refuses to participate and becomes anxious at the thought of school. Academically, Alicia struggles to coherently express her thoughts, and she becomes lost in mathematical problems. Alicia is not thriving in her environment. By looking into the specifics of Alicia’s behavior and academic goals, one can see how she will be able to meet her goals and flourish in the classroom.
Alicia is a bright student, but part of her hardships lie in certain behaviors that distract her and distance her in school. One example, would be Alicia’s reluctance to answer questions in class and putting her head down on the desk when she is called upon. In order to focus on this lack of participation, her first behavior goal would be, “Given a short, daily one-on-one meeting with her teacher to organize and mentally prepare for the day, Alicia will participate in class three times each day without being called on, as evaluated by the classroom teacher through a data tracking chart daily.” Breaking this goal down, the first half of the goal would be the modification and accommodation Alicia will receive. PBIS World provided different interventions for students that struggle in participation.
The goal of this program is to 1. Change a student’s behavior, 2. Change the behavior of the teacher, 3. Or a combinations of both. The behavior modification approaches are directed toward helping a teacher manage the behaviors in the children in the classroom.
As a six-year veteran of the US Army, I have taught and instructed people from multi-cultural backgrounds, vastly different education levels, and without regard to age all while traversing language barriers, cultural, and social norms, with great success. In my pursuit to continuously better myself, I have dedicated my educational goals to understanding what motivates people in the dynamic environments they find themselves. As well, my graduate thesis, titled “The Ethical Choice: Who Should Decide the Fate of Youth Sexual Assault Victims Who Become Pregnant?” gave me an impeccable foundation in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Year-End Progress Update - Describe the final results of your action plan and how successful you were in meeting your goal and impacting student achievement.
Promoting equal opportunities is fundamental to the aims and ethos of the school. They welcome applications from candidates of all cultures and backgrounds. The school believes that this enriches the community and is vital in preparing the pupils for today’s world. They concentrate strongly on educating the individual, providing a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where each individual feels valued.
The PBIS framework provides behavior supports through essential strategies that enhance academics and social outcomes in schools, (Responsive Classroom and PBIS Can Schools Use Them Together, n.d). According to the Office of Special Education Programs Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, OSEP TA Center on PBIS (2013) it is reported that school-wide PBIS has been implemented in 50 states and over 19,000 schools across the United States. Hence, the PBIS framework is a structure that provides a strong foundation in positive discipline. Using positive discipline and positive reinforcement centers the attention on desired outcomes and redirection. Some of the strategies include a focus on skill teaching, the use of positive statements through respectful practices, data-based decision making and the implementation of three tiers of positive behavior support to meet the variety of student needs. Tier one is intended to support all students in all situations (Responsive Classroom and PBIS Can Schools Use Them Together, n.d). This is done through the use of common language, positive reinforcements, frequent verbal connections of behavior to expectation, morning and closing classroom meetings, logical consequences and problem-solving
In Eliyahu Goldratt’s novel “The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement”, he tells a story about a man going through hard times, in both his work life and personal life. Alex works in a manufacturing plant that is barely staying afloat, and his boss has left it up to him to keep the business running with a three-month time span to do it in. Even though “The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement” is just a story, it is still very relatable to businessmen, businesswomen, and students. The three categories of constraints that are shown in the story are knowledge, material, and supplier.
I feel supporting students is a collective effort, therefore, my goals are to research programs outside the STS programs in order to provide students with more resources. I will be working with different programs, such as the Career Center, Graduate Division, Study Abroad, etc. to better cater the PPALS population. I now take the time to "self-care". I feel it is important and beneficial to the population I serve that I am healthy. In addition, I understand that there are different populations with different needs, therefore, I try to advocate and support the specific needs to each population. I do this by learning about resources that could aid their transition into UC Irvine. There is always room for improvement. Therefore, I try to learn
This process began in response to an especially challenging third grade population. A PBIS team was convened with the purpose of creating a set of “expectations, lessons to teach and reinforce desired behaviors, and a system of positive reinforcement and meaningful consequences” (p. 92) to be used by the fourth grade team that would have the task of teaching this behaviorally challenging group of students the following year. As a result of the positive results it was expanded to include the fifth grade team the following year and the entire school in year
College is expensive. No one can pay for it by themselves unless they’re a millionaire. What about the people who actually need help? I am one of those people. If given a scholarship, how will it benefit my education? If I was given a scholarship, it will benefit me in reaching my educational goal by motivating and pushing me to do better to make the organization proud and it will grant me the ability to get everything I need because it will not have any limitations to what I can do with it.
Everything I learn will benefit me in the future. Knowing when to graduate will allow me to be a step closer to my long term educational goal. I do want to be successful in life and school is helping me towards that. At the skill shop the lady mention seeing your adviser from time to time to make sure you are ready to graduate. That is one thing that will help because that’ll allow me to know how much further I’ll have to go in order to earn my degree. Meeting your adviser also tie into knowing the path you have choosing is good and the way you are doing it, is efficient.
My end goal for the classroom would be 2 style technical manager, especially in a high school setting where I think it is beneficial for the students to lead a more active role in the classroom. However, in order to to accomplish this goal I would assume that using some of the techniques from the 1 style will help create this classroom management system. Particularly setting clear expectations for students and consistently practicing these standards will be important in letting students know their role in the class, however, as the students learn the expectations I would like to transition more to less of leadership role while letting the students manage daily activities and expectations. I would like to steer clear from a consequence based
For as long as I can remember, my parents have told me that I need to work hard and get good grades so that one day, I may receive enough scholarships to attend college. Coming from a low-income household, college wasn’t an expectation but rather a dream; one that could only be achieved through a dedication to my academics. Fortunately, I love to be challenged and most of my decision to attend college derived from a personal desire to learn.
My academic goal is that I want to visit the French 247 website 3x a week for at least 10 minutes each to improve my French vocabulary. I will measure my goal weekly and every time I use the website. When I go on the website I will look at the time and use it for at least 10 min. I know my goal will be complete when I look at the time and see 10 minutes have passed. I will also measure my goal when progress report cards come out. If I find my goal easy I will use the website 4x a week. Every Monday Wednesday and Friday I will visit the website for at least 10 minutes each day. If I skip a day I will either make it up on the next day or on a regular day. My goal is achievable because every day would be hard for my schedule so that's why I chose
Making a career choice can often be a tormenting decision, and many people choose a profession or line of work that may not satisfy their creative abilities, but only pays the bills. I have known, specifically since the first day I spent in kindergarten class, that my purpose is to teach, and for that knowledge I am especially fortunate. The philosophies that I support have been part of my educational beliefs and standards for the majority or my lifetime, and are qualities that, I feel, make an effective and touching teacher.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
