Camp Twin Lakes is a camp that strives to provide a fun camp experience for children and adults with various illnesses or disabilities. While they receive a considerable amount of applicants, the majority of these applicants are white college-age females. Camp Twin Lakes would like to diversify their staff. Diversity is a priority for Camp Twin Lakes because of the vast diversity of the campers they serve. Camp Twin Lakes would like the diversity of the summer staff to be a reflection of the diversity among their campers. Currently Camp Twin Lakes receives approximately 150 applications and they hire 80 individuals. Out of those 80 individuals hired, only 10 are persons of color. Ineffective marketing is the main reason why they are not receiving
Located on the northern side of Dakota County, Sunfish Lake, Minnesota, is a small community that is proud of its legacy. The community treasures its solitude yet understands being apart of the thriving Dakota County. The city is bordered by Highways 110 to the north, 3 to the east, 60th Street West/Peiper Road to the south, and Delaware Avenue to the west. I-494 runs through the city as well.
Keeping in line with Marietta College’s statement on Diversity and Inclusion, it is important to map out a plan to make sure we are living up to the mission of the college. In order to fulfill this mission, it is necessary to have students from diverse backgrounds represented on campus. However, having students on campus is only one aspect of D&I work. Understanding the make-up of the college and the surrounding city, it is necessary to ensure these students have the support to be retained through graduation. In this effort, I propose the creation of a three part program that will assist in this effort. This plan will involve
The complex interactions and interdependence are evident to the Tri-lakes ecosystem because they shape the ecosystem and are needed due to every organism being dependent on each other An example of an interaction is the predator-prey interaction is with the largemouth bass and the alagi . This evident to the the Tri-lakes ecosystem because if the largemouth bass population increases, than the alagi population decreases with an overpopulated largemouth bass until a devastating decrease in population. Another example of interaction is the predator-prey relationship between humans and largemouth bass. The humans hunt the largemouth bass for fun or either for food. Either way if one organism goes extinct it will affect each animal to either starving
The first step in recruiting minorities is to create an inclusive atmosphere with your current employees. Displaying inclusion in your company will be documented by your employees and recognized by other businesses through social media and blogs. This opportunity welcomed me into a community fondly referred to as “Black NCSU.” At the African American Cultural Center, I was surrounded by love and support from both students and staff who wanted to see me succeed on campus. Having a community of intelligent and successful black staff members was an escape from the daily exhaustion of being black in a predominately white institution. Each microaggression was fuel for my intense fire to see a change on campus, which was representation. Representation is important because it gives those who come after us the motivation to strive for more: “I am because you are, you are therefore I am.” With this new motto in mind, I applied to be an Orientation Leader with New Student Programs. Fortunately, I was granted a position as one of six other African American students. Knowing how fortunate I was to have this opportunity I used my position as an Orientation Leader to welcome the class of 2020 to the university. However, I will acknowledge my own bias. I paid special attention to students and families of color as I wanted to be a familiar face to inform them of spaces for black students. I was further able to reinforce this familiarity as a Multicultural Symposium Counselor through Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA). MSA gave me a platform, a voice, to reach younger students of color and pass on the message of
For example seeing that Southeast Asians have the highest high school dropout rate (Le, 2011), we find it is due to the lack of resources available. This Summer Bridge program will address the issue of how the model minority myth that exists is actually not true and provide opportunities for Southeast Asian Americans in their college decision process. Furthermore, the Summer Bridge program will specifically help high school students who are in junior or senior year standing to get into four year universities. The program will start in the summer going into their junior year. They will direct target high schools that come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have the lowest graduation rates and have the most Southeast Asian American backgrounds. The Summer Bridge program will be made up of three pathways, which will be counseling, outreach, and internship
Based on the research, the recommendation to improve diversity at the organization will be to establish a committee dedicated to addressing diversity. Pine Rest serves a variety of people from different backgrounds therefore diversity is an essential component of this organization. For instance, people that seek out treatment at Pine Rest and the Interaction come from different cultural background and they may have a different understanding of diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, patients may seek out counseling or treatment from someone at Pine Rest or the Interaction program that is competent and knowledgeable about their cultural, race, ethnic background, gender or sexual orientation.
While LeasePlan’s diversity initiative is clearly working, what recommendations would you make for improving their program? Explain.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a cultural epicenter for Lafayette. With students from all over the world gathering together in an area around the size of 4 city blocks, our campus has two vitally important things: density and diversity.
Volunteer and Green Lake parks are different in several ways. First, they have different views. For instance, Volunteer Park has different kinds of views, such as many types of flowers with different colors. The flowers are red and white. Also it has some sculptures. On the other hand, Green Lake Park has just one view, which is the lake with the sunset. Also, those two parks have different locations. Volunteer Park is located in a quiet place on the main street while Green Lake Park is located on a small street. Moreover, Green Lake Park has many restaurants around it such as coffee shops and stores whereas the volunteer park is located next to houses. Second, they have different buildings. In particular, Volunteer Park
The demographics of the agency are diverse. A majority of the clients are adults and elderly adults;however, they also work with children. They work with more females then males, although the numbers are growing closer as more males seek out services. They have a
Malcolm Forbes once said, “Diversity: the art of thinking independently together.” The same diversity that shaped the United States going back to the sixteenth century when immigrants landed in North America. Diversity of people and species, but their real differences were religion, politics, economics, social issues, and the fantastic ways they dealt with those issues.
(Becker & MacPherson, 1986 p 345) The majority of clientele who use the service are mainly white albeit varying in age, gender and social status. There is no distinct ethnic grouping in the area therefore the opportunity to work with individuals from an ethnic majority background is limited. According to research, the small size and scattered
Most people have faced discrimination at some point in their lives, this is brought about by ethnicity appreciating the fact that we come from different backgrounds. Diversity is described as the inclusion of different types of people, it is vital for the community because diversity brings peace and co-existence as people interact well with each other and respect everyone despite their differences. In this essay, I will define the essential elements that help in making a community diverse.
Today's workplace is more diverse than it has ever been in history. While the workforce has made strides in the direction of equality, it is still far from attaining total equality in the workplace. A company must value diversity. The main objectives of valuing diversity include awareness, education, and positive recognition of the differences among people in the workforce. Organizations are increasingly emphasizing group work or teamwork as a source of competitive advantage in a diverse workforce. It has been suggested that such organizations must target their recruitment efforts at applicants who are both diverse and amenable to working in teams ( Rau, Hyland 2003).
