The Importance Of Crime Prevention

Crime prevention is essential in reducing the amount of criminal activities that occur within society. It is one of many pieces in a puzzle that help shape a community. By collecting data of criminal behaviors and locating the influences, a community is able to come together and make a difference. There are many programs throughout the United States that strive to make a change in crime. “Sexual violence is a serious public health problem in the United States, affecting people of every age and background. One in three girls and one in seven boys will be sexually abused before the age of 17.” (Briere & Elliott, 2003) In this paper, I will explain forcible rape in the United States and discuss ways to decrease criminal behavior in order for these individuals to become successful contributors within our society. I have chosen to compare crime prevention programs in the states of California, Florida, and Texas in my research.

Academic literature commonly refers to forcible rape as “the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will. Attempts or assaults to commit rape by force or threat of force are also included; however, statutory rape (without force) and other sex offenses are excluded.” (Richardson, 2013) In the United States, the arrest rate for forcible rape has seen a significant increase since 2013.
