As I said in my previous essay, not many people realize it, but the human race desperately depends on technology for existence. Although depending on things such as computers, cellular devices, and search engines comes with very helpful and developmental research, it has also come with many negative effects. Technology has literally affected all aspects of life for every living person. To the point where it has made people lazy, taken their jobs, and has even made people addicted to social networking. Some examples of problems are constant use of social media, texting and driving incidents, cyberbullying, and even cheating on tests or exams. I believe that we’ve become evermore negatively dependent on technology because humans now feel the need to socialize and connect with one another more frequently than they did before the turn of the 21st century.

The technological advancements witnessed in the current generation has benefited individuals by making the world a global village by easing access to information. Specifically, the introduction of the internet enables people to access many different platforms where they can express themselves and search information about their interests. Notably, educators, scholars, and students have benefited from various academic websites that provide information on a range of subjects. While evolutions in internet and technology are applauded for providing convenient means of accessing information, scholars have expressed concerns regarding its influences on human intelligence as far as memory is concerned. According to the adversaries, internet and technology are making individuals stupid because they depend on its mind to remember many things such as phone numbers and important dates in their lives. Additionally, the protagonists believe that internet and technology affect individual’s commitment to conduct efficient research work since people can get the information they want from Google easily. Despite the controversies, internet and technology are changing people’s minds for the better because it presents more direct ways of accessing information and archiving experiences for future reference. In the modern era, our society has become accustomed to not paying attention to our surroundings whether it be in class, while walking, or even driving. Most of the time students and even adults are often consumed by technology and do not pay attention to the world right in front of them. The article begins with Dr. Vannevar Bush discussing science and its relationship to warfare to be more specific his involvement as one of the scientists to develop the atomic bomb. A bomb that had many repercussions and killed approximately “140,000 people. This was a retaliation for what happened in pearl harbor which an attack on American soil by the Japanese. As a result, the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well as started a war. The technological advances made by the scientists had advances that help civilization and caused a lot of destruction as well.

Two years ago, I came home from a long practice after a long day of school. All I wanted to do was quickly complete my homework and go to bed. Likewise, education proves beneficial in Azar Nafisi’s Reading Lolita in Tehran, where Nafisi and a group of her students use literature as a form of education to temporarily disregard the totalitarian state they were forced to live within. And in Cathy Davidson’s Project Classroom Makeover, she describes how technology allowed Duke to potentially improve its students' performances with the integration of the iPod. Based on these accounts, although obstacles such as status and money, may keep higher power structures like Wall Street and the government in power, the use of technology and education may allow the world to become more egalitarian, as people would have more access to information they can utilize to become just as competent as those in power.

The advancement of technology can bring about many helpful changes that propel humanity into the future and can help better millions of lives throughout the world. However, technology can also be used in evil ways such as fighting wars, which results in a massive loss of life. Three of these technologies or ways of modern thinking are the factory machines in the gilded age, airplanes and naval advancements in World War 1 and beyond, and the crazy modern thinking that lead to these machines.
