Climate Change
What have we done to our earth? If we no longer need to debate whether the Earth is flat, then we no longer need to entertain the possibility that man is not making an unsustainable impact on the planet. Earth hates us and I would too, from the plastic churning throughout the oceans, to the number of trees delimiting, and the killing storms, Earth is changing and it is mad, but what is worse is a person’s ignorance on climate change and the lives this change it is affecting.
Scientific evidence for the warming of earth’s climate is doubtful. Earth is undergoing a gradual increase in the overall temperature of earth’s atmosphere. Climate change is no longer an environmental issue but not contributing to a social issue, which affects every person’s lives in several different ways and intensities. Climate change is an economic, social, and environmental issue. Acceptance of climate change is the first step in a positive acknowledgment to advance forward in handling this issue. Climate change has become an issue prevalent in people’s lives rather than just the environment. The issue is not that the world has more carbon dioxide, and it is not that the world is warmer. The issue here is the speed at which the world is changing. The biggest issue is the blind side our population is willing to turn to the matter.
Climate change affects several people in a numerous way and with different severities but the lives climate change may affect most starts with people being
With the rise of calamitous news regarding extremists groups taking over certain states, countries threatening to go to war, and viruses spreading throughout the world; the outlook of humanity does not look good. In addition to these dire headlines is the matter of climate change, which, unfortunately, is not as alarming to the public eye. Nonetheless, climate change is a pressing matter as it will impact every facet of society from economy to even human survival. Perhaps the general public find climate change as a vapid subject because of its nature to react belatedly to human activity, and how it is often represented with numbers, graphs, and projections; things that are not compelling to those that do not understand its importance. Even
In recent years, global climate change due to global warming has been largely researched. The paper, “Global Climate Change Triggered by Global Warming,” offers compelling evidence from various scientific papers that the process of Earth’s climate undergoing significant change has already begun and requires our attention due to the probability that human-generated greenhouse gases are the primary cause. Major focal points are shifting towards determining the causes to mitigate the effects rather than establishing the existence as sufficient amount of evidence has proven that global warming is indisputable. During the final decade of the 20th century, climatologists have concluded that the past millennium to be the warmest, especially in the year of 2005. Solutions towards the cause would require assistance from the population as a whole.
Climate change is not a new concept. It has been mostly referred to as global warming in the past. As much as people would like to file this issue away as something to deal with at a later date, it simply cannot wait. This problem we face is costing us billions of dollars, forests and wildlife are being eliminated, and people are dying. Starting to sound like a big deal, right? Future generations will be affected the most. People who do not even exist will have to pay for what we, all people, have done to this earth. To begin to make changes, one must realize the severity of the issue. Bill Mckibben, author of “Recalculating the Climate Math,” conveys that “We’ve already raised the world’s temperature by one degree—enough to melt almost half the ice in the Arctic, kill off huge swaths of the world’s coral, and unleash lethal floods and drought. July and August tied for the hottest months ever recorded on our planet, and scientists think they were almost certainly the hottest in the history of human civilization” (Page 3 of 5). Global climate change is a serious problem because it increases natural disasters and is the cause of extreme weather.
Throughout the years climate change has been a controversial issue affecting individuals worldwide; climate change has been debated by scientists including the rest of the world. Many factors can affect climate change such as biological factors and human actions. The intricate details are what go unnoticed and unmanaged, people may be greatly against this claim. However, it is underlying factors, like landfills and driving cars, that help maintain the increasing temperature of the earth thus, climate change has become a controversial topic. There have been concerns that climate change does not exist but there is reliable proof that it does even if many scientists do not agree on the existence of climate change.
Climate change has been a subject of discussion in the media for many years, supported with the use of arguments against oil polluting the environment and extreme scare tactics of Polar ice caps flooding civilians backyards. The issue has been ignored by the majority of lay people as seeming too complicated, and with all the conflicting information in the media in the past, who can blame them? However, scientifically, climate change and what perpetrates it is fairly simple to understand and society as a whole is beginning to come to a clear consensus on climate change. Thanks in part to more readily available forms of media and information, people have become cognizant of the fact that climate change is a legitimate problem which requires immediate amelioration. While this may seem melodramatic, society is realizing that climate change is an issue which can no longer be denied if the human race wishes to continue.
The Earth is where all known life resides. Climate change threatens this blue world. The opinion of one in four Americans who are skeptical does not matter on a fact with mountains of research on it. Global and sea surface temperatures are rising; heat waves are becoming more common; and glaciers are melting. Scientists say “humans are causing global warming” which affects the sensitivity of the climate. The rise in greenhouse levels from carbon dioxide and other pollutants from use of fossil fuels is a uniquely from humans.
Climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect—even if you only watch the news periodically, these are phrases that you have most likely become aware of. In short, climate change is the change global and regional patterns regarding climate; this is due to possible changes in the Earth’s axis, human activity modifying the composition of the atmosphere, or geographical activity such as volcanic eruptions [1]. Many have speculated and argued whether climate change actually exists. Regardless of your opinion, a staggering amount of scientists have accepted climate change as a reality. In fact, the much-admired astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims that individuals denying scientific facts is the “beginning of the end of an informed democracy” [2]. The article Climate Change: No Hiding Place supports Neil deGrasse Tyson’s notion stating “those who doubt that greenhouse gases are quite the problem they have been cracked up to be by most of the world's climatologists” [3]. While it may be difficult to see climate change presently, there are many indicators of its existence with the higher temperatures and acidity levels in the ocean, the melting of Arctic ice caps,
Global warming is a controversial topic, widely discussed among today’s society. It is significant because it deals with the opinions and beliefs of many individuals. It also creates controversy and provides society with the opportunity to express itself and its beliefs. Many people believe that the conditions of the climate have no correlation to human behavior and that nowadays, people exaggerate the impacts of climate change. However, these individuals fail to recognize the truth behind the topic. Global warming is both a real and serious threat to our existence that humans must address by altering their actions and behaviors.
People around the world turn a blind eye on the topic of climate change, many believe that climate change is a hoax, but our Earth is changing. Our average air and ocean temperatures are rising, there is a widespread melting of snow and ice and a rising average in sea levels. These are things happening because of climate change. As habitants of the Earth, it is our duty to restore our planet after the wrongs we have done to it.
The argument over climate change is an old struggle between the people who look to the future, and those who care about the present. Climate change is a term used to refer to the increase in average global temperature. Many people agree that most, if not all, of climate change is influenced by man-made constructs. These constructs include: factories, cars, and power plants. Even though some people believe that climate change does not exist, that it is just fluxuations in the Earth’s climate, there is more than enough scientific evidence to show that human power plants and motor vehicles as well as burning up forests for farmland accounts for the majority of climate change.
Climate change otherwise known as global warming has been an ongoing issue for decades. Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere. Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth’s atmosphere, causing rising sea-levels, melting snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, “Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift Within Decades, Not Centuries” he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist, James E. Hansen, explaining the effects of climate change on Earth today. Although many believe Hansen’s theories in the paper are quite far-fetched, the author mentions, “Despite any reservations they might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen’s group that society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks” (Gillis). Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society has not been able to reduce it fast enough. Many negative risks are being posed and will continue to mount if the issue of climate change is not taken seriously. Although climate change negatively affects nearly all aspects of Earth, it poses a big
Considering this statistic, “Since the last Ice Age ten thousand years ago, average global temperatures have risen about 9 degrees Fahrenheit. Over the last century, however, the pace of Global warming has accelerated, with temperatures worldwide increasing 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit in the last one hundred years(Global Warming). ”The earth’s population is about 7 billion, of the many people, a few are realizing the dramatic changes of the temperature and taking it into consideration. If nothing is done about the situation, it will only get worse . Although Global warming is controversial and people still deny the fact that it exists, there has been research that proves that this phenomenon is in fact happening.
Climate change is at its all-time high. It has taken impact on the planet through the most recent century. The human race as a whole does not take the subject of matter serious. Climate change is caused by many factors, humans seem to be one of the greatest factors. Over the years the human race has caused a great influence on climate change and as the years go by the damages are worse than the years before. The impacts of climate change are continually ending up more obvious across the world. The amounts of carbon dioxide, which is known as one of the main heat-trapping greenhouse gas that is produced by humans, are the highest it has ever been in three million years. (Weeks 522)
Our lives are connected to the climate. When a region of the world is in the hot season, you sometimes see record high temperatures. When cold season approaches, you might also see record lows. One might also see more flooding, earthquakes, temperature swings, droughts, snowfall, and changing weather behavior in general. So, climate change is an apparent reality we are now experiencing. May not seem much right now, but once you look at it in the long term it’s a complete eye opener. It’s amazing how much every little detail we do towards the environment affects us. A large increasing awareness of the implications of global climate change, shifts are becoming necessary and apparent in the assumptions, concepts, goals and methods of urban environmental planning. First we have to know the differences between global warming and climate change. Global warming refers to the recent and ongoing rise in global average temperature near Earth's surface. It is caused mostly by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is causing climate patterns to change. However, global warming itself represents only one aspect of climate change. Climate change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time. In other words, climate change includes major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, that occur over several decades or longer. Human societies have adapted to the
To me, climate change is one of the most pressing issues we face today. That is why I emailed Representative Kionne L. McGhee, about his view on climate change. I believe a focus on preventing climate change, is crucial to the well-being of every living thing on the planet. However, I understand that climate might be one of the most crucial problems affecting the planet, it is also one of the most hardest to fix. It is a highly controversial issue because people either believe it is a crucial issue needing to be fixed now or believes it does not even exist, at least to the extent scientists say it is. However, I personally believe climate change is an issue that needs worldwide cooperation.
