Furthermore, the Central Americans comprise, the second largest Latino group in California. However, California should not ignore Central America and therefore should expect our newest state secretary of trade commerce, Lon Hatamiya, to develop a viable economic policy in Central America.
Latin America is a continent that is constantly struggling between governmental abuse and oppression of its citizens. In Latin America, it is very common for non –democratic systems to be enforced. During recent years, the continent has experienced a governmental shift from an absolute to a more democratic system. This era is called the democratic third wave, which brought about democratic like tendencies to Latin America. Many factors such as corruption, poverty, and inequality pushed the people to favor this new democratic system. The abuse of power is also very common, and the citizen’s unrest is highly noted. Most citizens are in favor of doing away with the old system of government, and establishing a new efficient political system.

Nicaragua is very unique in many different ways! It’s located near the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Honduras and Costa Rica border this country. “Nicaragua’s land of beaches is lapped by sparkling seawater, deep forests, long winding rivers, colonial cities, ancient sites thousands of years old, and a huge freshwater lake- the only lake in the world with sharks in it” (Shields 9). This country includes beautiful landscapes, mild climate, republic form of government, low finances, distinctive culture, and many interesting facts.

In the 1980s, the Reagan administration described its involvement as an effort to stem Soviet influence in the hemisphere. President Reagan determination to promote democracy in Central America was not only his policy but his priority−at least on paper.
The Cold War was a period in history right after WWII ended and it ended in 1991, when the USSR broke apart. The conflict was between two types of governments: the communists and the capitalism (democrats). The USSR represented the communist side, while the U.S. represented the democrats. Both countries had nuclear weapons and did not want to fight each other directly because they didn’t want a Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), so they fought through other countries, by Proxy Wars. The global tensions in Cold War affected a few countries in a couple of regions, for example Central America. The involvement of the United States aided Nicaragua economically, militarily, and politically.
