There is a time where everyone has to stop being a kid and grow up to become an adult. It is different for all depending on many things; such as culture, how you were raised, the environment you lived around, and when you want to actually grow up and become something of yourself. For Indians cultures, it might be you have to go own a journey of some sort, Africans you might have to go kill a lion, for most Americans it is going off to college. At least for me, it’s going off to college. You face many things when in college that will prepare you for the rest of your life. College is a “trial” for adulthood. For me it was, I had to move across the country to go to college not even for my education, but to continue my career in baseball. Leaving
Going back to school has definitely been a great challenge for my family and me. I had to learn all over again, to juggle between school, work and family. Leaning how to write a paper in the APA format was initially a struggle. I am so glad that I decided on going back to school. I did not realize the difference and importance of having a BSN vs ADN degree. According to Wagner, there will be “greater opportunity for career advancement, improved prospects for job mobility and security and higher potential earning” (as cited in American Sentinel, 2013, para 2). Wagner also believes “there is no way that nurses can get all of the needed knowledge with only an ADN degree” (as cited in American Sentinel, 2013, “Greater Opportunities”, para
What does it mean to grow up? Growing up is when you find out how the world is and learn to cope and deal with it. Ann Landers explains what maturity is in her words. “Maturity: Be able to stick with a job until it is finished. Be able to bear an injustice without having to get even. Be able to carry money without spending it. Do your duty without being supervised.” This quote explains what maturity is and gives some examples that you have to go through in order to grow up. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird ,Dill, Jem, and Scout learn what it means to grow up.
Coming of age. Everyone has a coming of age, when they come to a point where they are no longer a child and have become an adult. However, everyone has a different way of transitioning into a adult. For example, some people are forced to grow up because they lose their innocence through traumatic or unfortunate events while others naturally lose their innocence just by growing up averagely and comprehending things on their own. Coming of age is said to be one of the most important things in one's life for it can determine their future.
Being an adult is the number one thing that children want to be: The desire to get older to do things that you want when you want and having no one say otherwise. However, what is an adult? An ambiguous term that really falls into the hands of the individual, where at Sixteen you can drive, eighteen you can vote, and twenty-one you can drink, for those in the USA, all varying ages that individuals could use as indications of adulthood. Robin Heinig wrote and article “What is it about 20- somethings?” where she discusses Arnett’s proposal about a new developmental stage, “Emerging Adulthood”. Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, an American professor in psychology, believes that we aren 't entering adulthood till the later portions of our twenties. For some, this may be true but for the general population including myself I find this hard to believe. Leo Hendry’s article, “How universal is emerging adulthood? An empirical example”, on emerging adulthood gives a deeper understanding to what this generation 's kids are going through. The late teens are a crucial part to the lives of a young adult. It 's the time that we spend trying to identify ourselves, escape the circumstance that we are put into at a younger age, or just had a better family income. Arnett is not wrong, but all other external factors need to be accounted for before we know, or even consider if emerging adulthood is a new developmental stage.
Attending college for the first time is an important, rewarding decision that I made for a good reason. I learned a lot about myself that will help me in my future. Setting goals, having expectations, and reflecting why I am in college is incredible to think about.
To be a grown-up means to make mature decisions that not only benefit you, but the people around you. You also have to be prepared for whatever challenges come ahead in life, as you are now ready to live independently. You know when you are an adult because you will be making your own decisions, paying your own bills, and providing for yourself. One might refer to growing up as a ‘journey’ because growing up is a tough, slow process, similar to how a journey is also a tough, slow process that ends with a final destination.
When do we truly grow up? In most modern day societies, there is a legal age where young people legally become adults, in this country it is once the clock strikes 12 on the 18th birthday. In popular science, becoming mature means your prefrontal cortex has finally fully developed around 24 or 25 years of age for important decision making moments. Others perceive being all grown up when they move out and are no longer dependent on their parents any longer. In, Hayao Miyazaki’s most acclaimed animation film Spirited Away, Miyazaki’s shares his perception on what it means to become mature through an adventurous story of a 10 year- old girl named Chihiro. Based on Chihiro’s experiences Mr. Miyazaki portrays to his audience that when one is
“You’re going to have to grow up sometime” something my mother still says to me now, even having turned 21 this year. I feel grown up simply because of my age but am I truly? Sure, the exciting times of living on your own, staying up as late as you want, and voting would qualify you as a grown up but honestly being an adult can be a bit of a bummer sometimes. Responsibilities, jobs, and bills; they’re all inevitable. However, we are fortunate enough to experience nostalgia or remember ‘the good old days’, reminiscing on events that remind us of childhood, a time when you hardly had to worry about anything other than your mom finding out that you got your brand new pants dirty after she told you not to wear them outside to play. But it’s hard
Going back to school requires a lot of planning especially at our age, I am 47 years old and just like you, there were questions regarding going back to school that required the use of my critical thinking more than ever to be able to come up with the correct answer and ultimately a decision.
As a return student, there were many obstacle I remember during my two years of college however, the harder things got the more ambitious I become until I reached my goal, and successful graduating. There were many factors that came across on procuring my BA for example, I have a family of my own I hold a full-time job aside from life challenges, and daily routine to get through the day. Beforehand learning about GCU I went through two different University unsuccessfully however, that didn’t stop me luckily, I learn through my employee about GCU.
Most of the time, becoming an adult is planned. There are religious ceremonies, the gaining of a driver’s license, and other forms of new responsibility to signify the coming of age. Sometimes though maturity comes at you like a freight train. It comes at you in the blink of an eye and there is no stopping it once it hits you. You are forced to grow up and take on new responsibilities that you thought you wouldn’t have to take on until many years later. It's up to you though to decide what to do from there. You can either try and run away from the problems you have come to face or you can take the train head on and conquer what has been presented to you. I decided to face the train.
Going back to school after a long summer can be tough for many children and teachers! Students who are going into kindergarten may be extremely nervous about school along with their parents. This article gave wonderful ideas on how to conduct your efforts concerning the first day back to school. Most of the points in the article to me, were on the border of crossing the line of professionalism into the personal aspect of the teacher-student relationship. My favorite point the article was to great your students with a warm smile. Stockman (2015) believes that when you smile and really get to know your students it shows them that you care about them, and not just their grades. I see this point being put into action every Tuesday and Thursday.
I am Daniel Cabrera and currently live in Bradenton Florida. I’ve been attending Keiser University since August of 2012 and only need two classes to finish up my Bachelors in Criminal Justice. I completed my first 60 credits at the Sarasota Campus and then transferred online for my last 60 credits. It has been a tough journey, especially with my full time job, but it has been worth the while. When i finish my education at Keiser University, I have plans to move to Denver Colorado and work for the government. In addition, return to school for my Masters at the University of Denver. I’ll see how everything goes. As far as the cultural diversity is concerned, I live in the westernmost part of Bradenton, which is only 5 miles

Being at the point in my life, where it is time to make the decisions which will mode the rest of my life has got me to the point of. When I was in my senior year of high school, I was so happy I was going to be officially out of the hell-hole I called a high school and ready to be an “adult”, according to the law. When I graduated, there would be o more waking up at 6 o’clock every morning, taking the train all the way to Cambridge, and being there all the one until 3:40 or 4:45 if I had to stay after or detention. All my class and I were so consumed in were those thoughts that we were basically free! We can now go off into adulthood with college, jobs, and cars. I guess we had got so consumed in the idea life would be so much easier without the burden of attending our high school anymore, we forgot what adulthood actually meant and was.
