On November 3, 1992 William Jefferson Clinton was elected President of the United States. Even though his campaign was troubled by accusations of draft dodging, the newly elected President won by promising to address pressing economic issues, including the ever escalating national debt. Throughout their entire two terms, the Clinton-Gore Administration made America thrive. Social reform, improved education, and exuberant economic prosperity crowded the long list of the administration's accomplishments. However, despite its achievements and triumphs, the Clinton-Gore Administration was punctured and exemplified by a monumental scandal, a scandal that led to national embarrassment, a tumultuous investigation, a hectic trial, eventual impeachment, and finally acquittal. …show more content…
Nevertheless, the House of Representatives’ decision was followed and rebutted by a twenty-one day trial in the Senate after which the President was acquitted of all charges, leaving him in office. The Senate's conclusion to the convoluted Clinton-Lewinsky scandal was the right one, as it correctly represented the American peoples wishes and properly interpreted the impeachment clauses present in the
The election of Bush v. Gore is known as one of the most controversial elections of all time, people often speculate the perspective of the election based on the popular vote and the way the candidates presented themselves. Known as the “Endless Election”, the events that took place during in the election led to a huge argument on who really won the election. People like to argue that election was rigged and that Gore should have been the POTUS.
In the words of the 36th President, Lyndon Johnson, “A President’s hardest task is not to do what is right, but to know what is right.” In the case of Bill Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky, he did not know what was right and in turn, did not do what was right. Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton carried on a behind the scenes sexual relationship that lasted two years during Clinton’s time in the white house, this relationship led to a federal investigation into the Clinton Presidency and later led to Bill being impeached. After his impeachment trial, Clinton was wrongly acquitted. Even though Bill Clinton was a good President, he should have been convicted for lying about his relationship
He was tried but found not guilty of the charges. Clinton is the only president that is a Rhodes Scholar (Russell Riley). If you look at the recent history of the Clinton foundation there is some suspicions that the Clintons are tied to some unexplainable deaths could it be a coincidence or could it be that our 42nd president of the united states and our almost president are behind many murders (Amanda Terkel). The Clintons have not been recognized for their crimes for now they are just suspicions. The logic behind the thirty three deaths is that all of these people have worked with the Clintons but later after they stopped working with them they had mysteriously died. The woman on the verge of becoming the next president is part of a crime family that has left a trail of dozens of dead bodies in its bloodthirsty pursuit of power (Amanda Terkel). In conclusion Clinton was a good president who made some mistakes. We all make mistakes but if his mistakes caused some national problems then it would be different. William J. Clinton was an American Hero to some and to others he was just a man who was lucky enough to not be put under the microscope and discover the horrendous truths about him. The Clintons are nothing but role models with dirt but every celebrity has conspiracies and rumors. In the honest opinion to some is that William Jefferson Clinton 42nd president was a great president with several
President Bill Clinton began an affair with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern, in 1995. Later in 1998, when confronted with questions in regards to an affair with Monica Lewinsky, Clinton lied under oath in front of a grand jury. This, however, was not his first lapse in judgment as viewed by the Senate and Congress. The President and his wife, Hillary, found themselves involved in the Whitewater scandal beginning in 1978. In addition, during his campaign, Clinton was accused of draft dodging and rumors were spread in regards to his possible marriage infidelity. President Bill Clinton continued to find himself caught in the middle of scandals involving: Whitewater, Paula Jones, and most notably, Monica Lewinsky. The way Clinton handled
The impeachment of President Andrew Johnson was the consequence of political clash and the crack of belief systems in the result of the American Civil War. It emerged from uncompromised convictions and a challenge for control in a country battling with reunification.
James Madison, in writing the US Constitution in 1787, intended that the system of checks and balances would separate the powers of the government branches and counter a “tyranny of the majority”. He carefully sought to distribute powers in a way that prevents any one faction from dominating. Under this system, the President can appoint federal judges, grant pardons, veto bills, propose laws, reject part of bills, etc. Equally, the Congress can override presidential veto, impeach the President, ratify treaties, etc., and the Courts can declare laws and executive orders unconstitutional. The contemporary system of checks and balances isn’t working as Madison intended as illustrated by the impeachment of President Clinton, the government
Everything was going great until the media found out about a secret affair between the president and white house intern Monica Lewinsky. Once this story hit newsstands across the nation the president was the only name people were talking about. It has been heard of before about former president John F. Kennedy with celebrity actress Marylin Monroe, but the nation found out about it after his death, so Americans didn’t take it to heart so severely as they did with Clinton. Because of this incident he was looked at more thoroughly by all government officials, so he was taken to court on accounts of perjury and obstruction of justice for that same incident with Monica
Republican candidate, George H.W. Bush, had lost the 1992 presidential election to a young Democrat from Arkansas, Bill Clinton. Clinton was somewhat of a dark horse candidate. He survived a giant sex scandal during his election, however, a third party run by Ross Perot split the vote and in 1993, Clinton was inaugurated. Clinton's foreign policy agenda, included the Oslo Accords between Israel and the PLO and NATO action in the Balkans. Successes and failures of the Clinton presidency included the failed attempt at health care reform, the very horrible attempt on LGBT issues, mixed feelings on the welfare reform and the more uplifting issues such as the huge improvements made in the economy. Also, computers were blowing up with the public
In 1992, William Clinton ran for President on the democratic ticket. His thoughts for the country were to create many jobs, lower taxes for the middle class, and help national health insurance. Although many people attacked him about an incident when he evaded military service and then tried to cover it up, he won the run and choose Senator Al Gore as his vice-president. He beat Republican Bush and Independent party Perot. President Clinton would be reelected again and he would have many issues while in his last term (DeGregorio 3).
This assignment asks us to compare and contrast the impeachment proceedings of Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and William Clinton, while identifying the ethical dilemmas presented by each. is all that people seem to remember about President Nixon's 6 years in office. This makes some
The impeachment of President Clinton is something that will be remembered forever. Along with the fact that a presidential impeachment has only happened one other time since the Civil War, the publicity that came with the Clinton trial was extensive (Miller 2004). While the Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives had vastly different views on impeaching President Clinton, the fact that only five Democratic Representatives voted to impeach him truly shows how wide that gap was between the two parties. Clinton was impeached on the grounds of perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice, with the vote on both articles extremely close, a 228-206 vote on perjury to a
“I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” After denying his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, the now well known sex scandal involving President Clinton was further investigated. Following the thorough investigation, Clinton was found guilty. Many people believe that the Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal was a black eye on Americas history that dissapeared when Clinton left office, however, this is not true. In reality, the scandal not only resulted in the impeachement of President Clinton, but also the loss of trust from the American population that has left a major impact and will continue to for decades.
Moreover, the Senate conducted a trial that took things a step further: they wanted to determine whether or not Clinton should be removed from office—this was only the second trial of this nature in the nation’s history. Being in the minority at the time, Senate Democrats were not in a favorable position to keep their party’s president in power. However, they were able to garner support from ten Republicans on the acquittal for perjury and from five Republicans on the acquittal for obstruction. As a result, Bill Clinton was thereby acquitted of all charges and remained in office. Clinton did not, however, make out unscathed. Judge Susan Webber Wright fined him $90,000 for being in civil contempt of court. Additionally, Clinton’s license to practice law in the state of Arkansas was suspended for five years. And, lastly, he was disallowed from presenting cases in front of the Supreme Court.
The Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislator Black Caucus prides itself on honesty and loyalty. With this being said, we cannot give our endorsement to James Mathews. The role of the Black Caucus is not to act as a trophy to display diversity, and it is certainly not to be used as a pawn in a malicious political agenda. A narrative has been created that implied the Black Caucus lead the charge for the impeachment of Nick Limbo, these allegations are completely false. The six signatures that contributed to the fifty need for the motion of impeachment were only signed after James Mathews personally handed the petition to the chairwoman, and even after the fact; chairwomen’s decision to ask members to signed the petition was made after it was
