“Shoot it down! Shoot it down! Shoot it down!” My squad members yelled at me as I shot down an opposing team's sky scraping fort to see my enemies fall to their doom. This was my first Fortnite victory, and it was one of the greatest moments in my video gaming history. I’ve been playing Fortnite since November of 2017, and it has taken up a ton of my free time.

I play on XBox, and I regularly play with my friends. For me, the most exciting part of the game is definitely jumping another team or individuals base, catching them by surprise is such an adrenaline rush. I think the game is so popular because it’s the perfect mix of cooperation, action, and hilarity which immediately draws people in. Being in my senior year and accepted into my University of choice, I would say playing it every night is worth taking a hit academically, it is a good way to let go and destress after 3 and a half years of grinding school. I think it can have multiple effects on mental health, both positive and negative. Gaming can just as easily generate happiness as it can serious frustration. I think it depends on the person. I do think playing video games with friends is beneficial for social maturation, especially with people who you may or may not be very close with before you started playing video games. Playing with friends creates a team like
The term motivation and empowerment is a universal concept that is hoped to work towards the good of any organization. Motivation and empowerment does not come from rewards to employees but instead, recognition, responsibility and advancement. Leaders who are effective in motivating and empowering their staff have acquired a great achievement, which can increase efficiency, and self development of skills and abilities. When employers are concerned about the welfare and needs of their staff, this provides trust among staff. The purpose of this paper is to compare motivation and
Ever since I have downloaded the game Fortnite, my life has been greatly altered. Although the game was released on July 25, 2017, the game did not begin to escalate quickly until a few short months ago. With celebrities like Drake, Travis $cott, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Chance the Rapper playing, the game has certainly absorbed all kinds of people. The concept of the game is to be the “Last man standing” in a one hundred person game lobby. The game offers a solo mode, a duo mode, and a squad mode, which allows you to play with your friends and gamers all over the world. I did not start playing until about a month and a half ago, however, it feels like I’ve been immersed in it my entire life.
According to some researchers at the University of Queensland, gaming can improve your academic performance. But in real life that is nowhere to be true. Violent video games are very addictive. Games completely affect your behaviour. You will always keep thinking about them, talking about them and planning how you will kill your next target in your game.
According to the article, one positive aspect for the game, Fortnite is that it’s very entertaining for kids that like playing realistic games. Also, it has so many cool features and also this game can teach a little about survival in reality. “Fortnite is one of the most enjoyable and least disturbing games that youngsters could be playing. The cartoon-like feeling, building elements, and teamwork coupled with hilarious dance moves and strange weapons mean that it never takes itself too seriously.” One negative aspect for the game, Fortnite is that it can be very addicting and won’t be able to stop playing for while. It could cause dangerous things because the game is basically killing other opponents and can get very violent. Also, if you
Bowen, Lisa. Video game play may provide learning, health, social benefits, review finds. American Psychological Association. February 2014. Vol 45, No. 2. Print version: page 10.
“c(or getting better at) and enjoy. In other words, gameplay is the direct emotional opposite of depression.” Says Jane Mcgonigal, an American game designer and Author. Kids and Adults of all ages enjoy and play video games because they can be helpful in many different ways. For example, they can teach life lessons, motivate children to read, and help train the brain so it can think fast and strong.
Playing videogames can be a social activity, gaming consoles have advanced overtime, it now allows us to play videogames online with our friends and meet new people. Videogames are also used by our generation to pass the time, like when a person isn’t busy one weekend so he spends that weekend playing videogames with friends who are also not busy; or if someone is in the waiting room of the doctors office, waiting for the nurse to tell him or her when the doctor is ready to see, they might play a game to pass the time. Videogames also give us things to talk about with one another. Many videogames have unique story plotlines with bizarre worlds that have their own lore; some videogames have scoring systems which creates competitivity. Some videogame even have characters that come with stats. So videogames gives us a lot to discuss about.
The video game industry has grown vastly throughout the years. There are many game genres to choose from and each of them are distinctive from the others. This year’s most popular genre, battle royale, has massively taken over other gaming categories. Standing on top of the list, Fornite, has reached over millions of players globally. This genre has captivated the public’s attention and ever since its release, many players have slowly turned Fortnite into a part of their daily life.
Video games can have positive, therapeutic effects on players of all ages, especially those with mental or emotional problems. Games provide a chance to tune out the stresses of everyday life and decompress. Giving your mind time to rest is critical for emotional and mental well-being. Relaxation reduces the risk of heart problems and stroke, boosts memory, buffers against depression, and helps decision making. It even has physical health benefits, by suppressing
My brother would play in the middle of the night and would always get in trouble. He was obsessed! Jack Flanagan, in his article, “The Psychology of Video Games” reports, “Video games are built to exploit this part [reward system] of our brain. Kill monster, get points. Complete level, get happy music. Win game, feel satisfied. It’s a very simple and primitive part of who we are.” However, I think video games offer much more than addictive downfalls. Daphne Bavelier, scientist at the University of Rochester and the University of Geneva, researched on how video games enhance people’s vision and attention control in which she discusses in her speech, “Your Brain on Video Games.” I believe the benefits of video games outweigh the harmful consequences they cause because video games offers finer motor skills and as the zombies we are, we want bigger and better brains to
Video Games cause social isolation, for example a 15 year old boy in Sweden pass out after playing World of Warcraft for 24 hours straight, he passed out because he started experiencing social withdrawal, the kid was lacking contact with other humans, and his body’s response to the problem was to pass out. On an extreme level, Ruya Cunningham, a college student spent twenty hours a week playing video games, she eventually “dropped out of school, stopped exercising, and even stopped bathing” (Marcovitz 70). Later on, Ruya Cunningham developed depression, but she kept playing video games because she was addicted to the game. When people are addicted to a game, there is a spiraling vortex sucking the gamer away from society and from sanity. As a consequence of playing violent video games, many teen gamers struggle with real world relationships, this is because they form close virtual relationships with people they meet online. A man in Wisconsin has formed a tremendously close relationship with a group of guys he plays online with, he discusses politics with them and they send each other Christmas gifts even though they do not know each other (Marcovitz 70-72). Video games can also affect the players mental and their physiological state.
The obvious mental problem is aggressive behavior, but others include social phobias, anxiety, and even depression. Physical effects caused by video games include fatigue, migraines due to intense concentration or eye strain, carpal tunnel syndrome caused by the overuse of a controller or computer mouse, and poor personal hygiene. Now one thing, the bad effects are mostly caused by spending too much time on video games. So that means, if you or your child spends less time on video games, there are good effects. Video games increase coordination, improve problem-solving skills, sometimes enhances memory, and improves attention and concentration. It is a great source of learning, as it improves the brain's speed, enhances multitasking skills, and improves social skills. Patricia Greenfield, a psychology professor at UCLA, has studied the relationship between video games and intelligence and finds a positive correlation. Her research attributes an increase in worldwide "nonverbal IQ" (spatial skills, the use of icons for problem-solving and the ability to understand things from multiple viewpoints) to the spread of video games. I was thrilled to hear my prejudice confirmed--until Greenfield noted that this rise in IQ comes at the expense of potentially more important social skills. Which is to say that kids typically don't interact that well when they spend hours sitting in front of the computer or console. "It's
There is a lot of research into what affects gaming has on children's mental health, consequently there is research into both sides of the argument. Gaming has an effect on mental health, but not necessarily in a negative way. I strongly argue that gaming affects mental health in a positive way so accordingly I will set out to prove it. We will be discussing a wide range of sources, showing a variety of views, describing how video games are good for mental health, video games affect mental health in a violent way or whether it affects the player's social ability.
Playing video games for hours at a time in one day, every day of the week can lead to another major problem, gaming addiction. Youth may become obsessed with the game and think they have to beat it before they do anything else and never want to leave their rooms because they want to consistently play the game. Dr. Russell A. Sabella states in his article on Education.com that: “for most people, computer use and video game play is integrated into their lives as a balanced manner. For others, time spent on the computer or video games is out of balance and has displaced work, school, friends, even family”(Sabella). Becoming addicted to video games can cause a lot of problems in the family because some parents like to have family dinners and they have to literally fight with their kid to get
