Most girls who work in the human trafficking industry tend to lack proper medical attention and resources to fully survive. But that is not surprising considering the main aspect of the trade is to break young girls minds. Although as severe as the situation may be, most victims of the trafficking world are not just used in means of sex. Some are sold as nannies and servants and from my personal experience I have seen girls in Bangladesh and India work under the age of 20, some as young as 13 or 14. With the continuation of the trade, it hampers their mental and physical growing process, underrage marriage of girls as young as eight to ten to men much older, and the current rate of the industry could grow two to three times more in the next
Human trafficking is the modernized version of slavery that involves force, fraud, and/or a type of labor in a sexual act. The United States government defines it to be “In which a sex act is forced in which the person induced has not yet been attained eighteen years of age” (National Institute of Justice). Human trafficking is a threat to all nations and promotes breakdown of families and can support organized crime. Trafficking can occur everywhere. Human trafficking and human smuggling are related to one another, but different crimes. The difference between smuggling and trafficking is that smuggling is the illegal movement of someone across a border while trafficking is the illegal exploitation of a person.
(Attention catcher)What if somebody came into your life and guaranteed a better lifestyle, but instead you were enslaved into human trafficking? Human trafficking is when a person is abducted from their current situation and mostly likely used for sex slavery. Furthermore, did you know human trafficking increased over the years? (Listener relevance) Although you may not be as aware in your comfortable surroundings, you should always be aware of suspicious vehicles and people. Even though we enjoy the freedom of walking around carelessly, our behavior can lead to becoming exploited by traffickers. Victims of trafficking are forced into sexual slavery. (Speaker credibility) In order to understand the seriousness of this issue, we decided to do more research. (Thesis) According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center from 2012 to present, human trafficking has gone from 2,404 to 3,107 victims. (Preview main points) Throughout this speech, you’ll understand the difference between prostitution and human trafficking, the history behind human trafficking, and the overall process of human trafficking.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about Human Trafficking. What it is, where it is and who gets affected.
Sex Trafficking has been a key component in “ degradation of human and women's rights” because they believe that these people are only good for sex (Deshpande Para 1). Often victims who come back, if they ever can, have a hard time adjusting back to normal life. These girls have trust issues towards men, and sometimes even women. They also could have numerous health problems ranging from STD’s to unplanned pregnancy or even worse “ broken bones, concussions, bruises and burns” can all be found on these victims of sexual assault. These girls could also have mental issues, such as anxiety toward older men and women, fear of going outside ever again and social issues. The saddest thing about this is not only are these victims going through a horrible amount of sexual abuse, they also have been ripped away from what they know and may love. Some people believe that women and some men are just objects and they are the ones that are often pimps in the sex trafficking, but this is a completely skewed way of thinking of people.
This past year in the United States, there were an estimated 21,431 calls made to authorities concerning potential human trafficking situations and yet, the average American does not know that forced labor and prostitution is even a problem. (Melissa) Second to drug dealing, human trafficking is the largest criminal industry in the world today, and is growing fast. (Human Trafficking – Exploitation…) This modern day form of slavery takes victims captive against their will by using violence, threats, deception and other manipulative tricks. Even though each trafficking target has a different story, they all have similar experiences because they lose their freedom. In the United States, the First amendment protects all people citizens or aliens with basic freedoms. Therefore, human trafficking goes against ones American civil rights; human trafficking is major issue in the USA that needs to be stopped.
You might be asking what are the psychological effects that a person might go trough during this. Whether before, during or after something like this may happen. If you look at a person before something happens to them they are more than likely happy and enjoying life with
Imagine being taken from the comfort of your house and family. Then envision that you are forced to either inject or ingest as drugs to give sexual pleasure to one person while the other reaps financial benefits. You are experiencing such atrocity at the same moment in which your loved ones are mourn your loss. Eventually, you are unrecognizable and affected by traumatizing experiences. The effects that you frequently feel are numb and now you are suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is the reality that many endure on daily basis. It is caused by the constant practice of human trafficking.
This bill will work with the U.S government to educate women and young children who may become victims of trafficking, spread awareness, and to have more efficient programs to help the trafficking victims recover.
The sex trafficking trade has been largely acquainted with countries in Europe and South America of the years. Nonetheless, this epidemic in reality has been in the United States for some time. The United States has become tolerable because of the amount of money the sex business industry brings in annually. The youths trapped in prostitution, brothel, massage services has been on the upsurge due to a lack of assistance. Lack of acknowledgment by the government and the media has been astounding. To comprehend how to combat the issue one must be aware there has been a problem occurring. Therefore it would be essential to provide the necessary statistics for individuals to know which youths are targets by their vulnerability. The types of
“Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purposes of a commercial sex act, in which the commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age” ("Human Trafficking"). World wide there are over 27 million victims of Human Trafficking. Sex trafficking is a global issue that affects many , occurring in over 167 countries, it is the most common form of human trafficking. (“Global Report on Trafficking in Persons”). In India, every hour four women enter prostitution, one of four willfully and the other three of them against their will. Every year nearly 7,000 Nepali girls are sold into Indias red-light district(“Human Trafficking Facts”). In comparison to all other forms of human trafficking, sex trafficking is the most gender biased trade. It is more inclined towards women, so, the majority of sex trafficking victims in India are women. Adolescence girls make up about 40% of the whole (Ton, par 4). This means that girls ranging from age 10-16 make up almost half of women and girls that are victims of sex trafficking. The problem lies within the system and the people who partake in it. Solicitation of sex being inexpensive, the tiers of people within the system -including those who sale, those who buy, and those in the background, and the minimal risks of legal consequences for trafficking are all what keep the sex
Human Trafficking involves abducting and moving the victim against his or her will. Human trafficking is caused by the dangers of being in a foreign country and poverty. Both of these causes have the same effect: being a victim in human trafficking. Foreign vacationing or wanting to work in a foreign country is very common, but many people do not know the dangers of it.
When one thinks of the sex trade it may bring to mind some nameless, faceless person across the ocean, when in reality, it is a very familiar place and quite possibly the child next door. The human trafficking industry has no home; It’s wherever the victims are present.
“A new type of Child abuse and human trafficking that targets infant has emerged in in Nigeria and what I described as ‘baby factories. Baby factories are criminal entities that exploit young girls with unwanted pregnancies and the practice is growing” (Shafer). Considering the fact these ‘baby factories’ and child trafficking makes annually $32 billion worldwide, which makes it the largest criminal activity in the world. The reason that this occurs is because, many women in need may turn to this if they are unable to do anything else with their unwanted pregnancy. This is why providing money to the birth parents of adopted children will help the mother and lessen the crime of child trafficking starting with the revenue and the casualties
“Some girls come to us beaten half to death. They are so young. They have marks that are worse than anything I have ever endured.” (Mam 166). Throughout the world, traffickers coerce and abduct women and children into the sex trade. Traffickers then trade and sell these women for the use of sexual exploitation (Mace Venneberg, and Amell 336). As many as 20 million people are involved in the global sex trade at any given time (Nawyn, Birdal, and Glogower 56). Though sex trafficking is acknowledged as an issue throughout the world, it continues to become even more extreme. Anyone, from anywhere, could be taken and sold as a slave. In countries such as Cambodia and Thailand, girls can be as young as five or six years old when they enter the
Girls ages 14-17 were forced into work as domestic servants but it wasn’t uncommon to find many girls as young as 8 or 9 years of age (“Incidence and Nature of Child Labor” 2). Many of these children typically worked a 12-16 hour day and seven days a week (“Incidence and Nature of Child Trafficking” 2). This evidence shows this crisis is on the rise and as the years go by the children are getting younger and younger.
