I believe that we all have a purpose in life. Plenty of people believe that we are all connected in many ways. In the movie The Hours we take a look at the lives of three women who each live in a different time periods. Virginia who is played by Nicole Kidman, Laura Brown played by Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep as Clarissa Vaughn. Through out the movie we realized that each woman's story is connected with one another. At the beginning of the movie we meet Virginia who is about to commit suicide. Although we don’t know the reason why such action is not determined right away but I figured we would learn it throughout the movie. Virginia is a writer and her current novel is about her life, Laura and Clarissa. The three women in this movie are in constant struggle to figure out the meaning of life. …show more content…

Virginia, Laura, and Clarissa are strong yet emotionally sensitive women who evaluate every moment in their lives. With this breakdown, they consider suicide as the best option to escape from their pain and agony. The women of the Hour try to define their lives within the roles that society has set out for them but without sacrificing their own identity. Through out the movie we discover that these women struggle with their sexuality. We see that Virginia out of despair kisses her sister. Also Laura, who is unhappy in her life, kisses her friend Kitty. We also see that Clarissa is in a same sex relationship with her partner Sally. It feels like each one of them has to hide their true identity. Rob White thinks “The Hours has worked towards the insight that it takes a stronger courage, and sometimes a crueler kind, to go on living.” And finally he says, “By signing off with suicide, The Hours settles for the certainty of death and bereavement not the more elaborate, poignant puzzle posed by the women who, in spite of everything, whatever the cost in abandonment, refuse to
