In the novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, true heroism is shown throughout many events in the story. One of the many characters in the book, Lt. Carroll, was said to show heroism before the main character, Richie Perry, came to the war. Another example of heroism by Lt. Carroll is when he was trying to lead his squad to safety but ended up getting hit himself. The third way Myers showed heroism is when Monaco, one of the squad members, was captured by the enemy and Richie and Peewee, another one of the squad members, saved him.

Small or big, everything we do in life is part of our journey. Reg Harris’ “The Hero’s Journey” describes the voyage one takes throughout life to grow and change as a person. He breaks the journey down into eight steps leading to the return. It starts out as a goal that isn’t always easy to reach, one goes through hardship and personal doubts only to succeed and become a better person. An example of this journey can be found in the movie, Troy through the character Achilles. Achilles is a strong fearless warrior in the movie, Troy who goes through “The Hero’s Journey” and ends up with a change of heart.

In spite of the fact that Cady’s adventure has already begun, the film opens with a scene presenting her in a particularly ordinary situation; preparing Cady for her first ever day at school, her parents represent the last connection to her known world. Vogler observes how essential it is for the audience to meet the protagonist in their customary environment; presenting Cady in normalcy allows the audience to identify with her, whereby the monotonous hardships of daily life contrast against the marvels of the ensuing Special World (Vogler, 1992). The events in the ‘Ordinary World’ therefore act as catalysts to the hero’s impending adventure, whereby the pollutions of daily existence enacts one to feel despairingly set for change.

Like the film A Beautiful Mind, The Blind Side also has a character that manifest the archetype of the woman figure, Earth Mother . Leigh Anne Tuohy is a modern wealthy woman who lives with her family in Tennessee. Leigh Anne takes in an underprivileged African-American boy who grew up in a rough environment. Leigh Anne’s role in the movie is a great example of the earth mother archetype. An earth mother does not only make a difference in the protagonist lives but they also are dedicated to helping others without expecting anything in return. The movie references the children’s book Ferdinand the Bull. After the Tuohy family reads this book Ms Tuohy says that Michaels her Ferdinand. The movie shows the similarities and differences between Ferdinand and Michael.

The film, “The Blind side”, produced by John Lee Hancock, demonstrates that a tragic childhood does not necessarily mean one is destined for defeat, as long as there are those who care enough about you. “The Blind Side” uses rhetorical appeals by illustrating ethos, logos, and pathos to teach the audience moral lessons on learning and coping with traumatic life experiences and defining oneself socially through personal actions.

This concept allows for a comprehensive, logical flow throughout a movie. Once the hero’s journey is thoroughly understood, anyone can pick out the elements in nearly every piece. The movie shows the struggle and differences of people from different nationalities and the way their race reacts to certain circumstances. This review is going to describe the Storyline, how it held the audience’s attention; the Characters, wither they were believable or not; and Conflicts in the story, what they were and how they were resolved. This is a family movie that can be watch and made memoires with. The movie captured multiple audiences and appears appealing to multiple audiences across the life span. One of the people from the film that follow the objective is Dominique Bretodeau. When he was a young boy, he lost his treasure box. Directly after it was returned to him from a stranger, he began to tear up over the lost memories that the box contained. He then confides in people at the bar that he has not spoken to his daughter in years, and because of this does not know his grandson. This simple act of kindness was enough to make Bretodeau sacrifice his pride enough to reconcile with his daughter and grandson. He had no idea if his family was going to open their arms, or push him away for being away for so long. This failed to stop Bretodeau. This journey of becoming a hero was a spiritual one. Most of the conflict happened within his own heart. A small act of thoughtfulness helped a man choose to create a better life for him, and his estranged family.
