Thirty seconds left in the La Liga cup finals. Real Madrid is playing the Notorious FC Barcelona. Everything is on the line. Cristiano Ronaldo has the ball on his foot. He cuts left passing a right midfielder. Ronaldo advances forward towards the opponent’s goal. Again, he dashes toward the next man, double step-over, rake, Cruyff- turn, scissor, and another cut to his left to be the center defensive midfielder. With every second gone the pressure rises. Ronaldo has two more defenders to beat before he has a chance to shoot the ball. Instead, he does the unthinkable, from 34 yards out he strikes a driven ball with the outside of his right foot putting it perfectly in the upper left-hand corner of the goal to win the game. I know what you’re thinking there is no way that is true and you may be partly right. This event did take place, however, in the new FIFA 17 video game.
Growing Popularity
The FIFA video game is ever growing in its popularity. According to the Neil Herndon from the Forbes Insider, “FIFA 12 sold 3.2 million copies in a single week” (Herndon). And it is no surprise why. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. FIFA also “Holds the record of ‘fastest selling sports game’ to this day, and generated $180m in retail the first week of release”(Herndon). FIFA has so many different features and gameplay modes. Ultimate team by far is the most popular.
There are many question about how the great game of baseball originally started and how it has grown to become Americas game that so many of us enjoy so much as little kids until till we die. Baseball is one of the only games today where the rules of the game have stayed the same since a guy named Abner Doubleday first evolved the game in 1845. Then he went on to be a Civil War hero shortly after as the game of Baseball became Americas beloved national pastime.
Soccer has been described as the most beautiful game in the world. It is certainly the most popular; it’s played by more than 265 million worldwide! Every four years, thirty-two countries from around the world gather - after going through a grueling qualifying process - to compete for the honor of raising the golden World Cup trophy.
Football and soccer have made their impact in different parts of the world. Football is mostly played in the USA. In England they play a game like football, but it’s different in prospective, which is called RUGBY. Though people are more likely to get destructive injury, soccer is popular all over the world. It’s not possible to find a single country, which hasn’t played soccer or at least heard about it. Mostly in Europe and South America, people are passionate about soccer. Though football is mostly played in the USA, it has a lot of influence among the fans and spectators. Every year, football fans organize a multi-billion dollar tournament known as NFL with all the states of the USA. Fans travel from states to states to watch their team performing. Similarly, soccer also has a tournament like that, but it is more huge and considered as a world tournament. Soccer fans organize that biggest tournament each and every four year with only the qualified nations of the world. Each nation has to go through a qualifying process to play in that huge tournament known as WORLD CUP. Sports and religion are things that can go together in many ways. Sports were founded on religion and were kept strong by religion. Now sport is taking over as religion almost in today's world. Sports can promote things that are not necessarily right according to God but we participate anyway. While how the mind and body are connected give another way of how sport is. Finally, we see that sports in a modern context have changed greatly and are ritual heavy one would almost say idolic. Religion and sports are both here to stay and they really are a way something that can unite everyone.
A major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I could not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I would be thrilled.
