The Great Gatsby: Great or Grating?
It is a well-known fact that F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most notorious novel is The Great Gatsby. The novel was published in 1925, following Fitzgerald’s considerable success from his previous novel, The Beautiful and Damned. However, upon the novel’s publication Fitzgerald received negative feedback from the readers. It is supposed that the lack of positive reaction is due to the absence of a female protagonist in both the novel and the film adaptations. Among the many film adaptations of the novel, the three most common are the movies produced in: 1949, 1974, and 2013.
