Behind the scenes… “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (NASB). He always works behind the scenes and at times he can be the most unrecognizable person in the world. You can bet that when he’s around there a whole lot more going on than what we’ve been let to believe. Who caused the Chaldeans to steal from Job and kill his servants (Job 1:12-17)? Who motivated Ananias and Sapphira to lie to the Apostles (Acts 5:3)? Who motivates people to maneuver their vehicle when they have no lane to suddenly cut you off in traffic? Has it ever crossed your mind that not every thought that crosses our mind comes from us? It’s Satan at work hidden from sight! It happens every day that we are being lied to but do we ever stop to ask, where are those thought and the feelings coming from? …show more content…
They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10 (NIV). The devil's primary strategy is to disguise his activities so that it appears that someone or something else is to blame. Have you ever wonder what is really like behind the scenes of your of life? The Apostle Paul had it right, he knew what was behind it when he wrote, “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12). It’s important we understand what the real root of the problem is - its Satan and no one other but
1-1. “Before me and Neeka started asking D about her life, we were erasers too—she got to step into our world, with all the trees and mamas calling from windows and kids playing on the block, and forget.” (18)
In the intercalary chapter with the tenacious turtle, bounteous obstacles of nature and man impeded the turtle’s lengthy journey southwest, but the turtle persevered in the end. For example, when the turtle first appears, he soon saw “the hill, which was the highway embankment, reared up ahead of him” (Steinbeck 14). He thrust with his back legs and pulled with his front legs until he conquered the slope. Secondly, “A red ant ran into the shell, into the soft skin inside the shell” (Steinbeck 15), agitating the turtle’s sensitive inner skin. To remedy this irritation, the turtle yanked in his extremities, effectively crushing the red ant. An instance of humanity harming the tough turtle occurred when a truck driver swerved out of his way in an attempt to hit the turtle, directly after a woman almost
The devil has one main goal, to turn us away from God and instead make us his slaves. He will do everything he possibly can to achieve this goal. In Screwtape letters, Wormwood used the patients relationship with his mother to distract him. Not only is it wrong to ruin a relationship between a family member, but out of all things screwtape had to choice that. Wormwood almost had his own devil who was Screwtape. Screwtape would tell him what to do and Wormwood obeyd. In the Bible it warns us Christians to watch out for the devil's schemes. This is why the Bible commands us to “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). As a follower of Christ, we have to stand our ground. We could have so much tossed at us by the devil such as persecution, temptation and many more.
1. During Anne Bradstreet's piece called [Upon the Burning of Our House] Anne Bradstreet describes how she believed that it was god's will that her house was destroyed, due to her being too concerned with material/physical things. She says "Then straight I gin my heart to chide and didst thy wealth on earth abide?" which translates to her questioning whether or not she had treasured her belongings excessively. Afterwards she states "Didst fix thy hope on mouldring dust? The arm of flesh didst make thy trust?" which further expands on the fact she treasured a physical object rather than a living entity or god himself.
The Antichrist, Satan, Lucifer… he has many names, and even more roles in our everyday lives. The devil is a way for us as humans to recognize our own flaws, sins, temptations, and our hidden dark side. He is a scapegoat for the carnal nature of humans, and makes our God appear to be a less wicked creator by contrast. An extremely important figure in everything from literature and movies, the devil is necessary for helping humans differentiate from good and evil, whether or not you believe in him as a real, physical being, or as a metaphor. Humans naturally feel compelled to project our own evil onto a seperate, outside entity, as it was deemed unnatural, and the devil is the perfect candidate.
The devil's job is to steal, kill, lie, and destroy God's future hopes and dreams for you and mankind. Yet, the quality of good work you choice to give God may buy you some extra peace of mind. Help someone else and not just yourself, balancing your action, lifestyle and behavior. God gave us this precious time to safely learn, teach, and know that He alone is our Lord, Master, Father, and Savior. The quality of your good work and faith is God's Good Speed on your life, family, and
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Following the standards of classic tragic heroes, Satan is a determined leader with an extreme amount of hubris. He knows that God is the most powerful being and yet he still
I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.” (Mark 5:6-7). Because of this deep fear of Jesus the demons’ attitude is submissive, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” (Luke 10:17). God has put limits on Satan which he cannot overcome as shown in Job 1:10, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?”
In Paradise Lost book 2 people see the Satan saying how much God hates him. But in book 3 God talks about how he will always keep the door open for the Satan. To me I see that devil doubting God before listening to him. Satan says, “But what owe I to his commands above Who hates me, and hath hither thrust me down.” (lines 856-57 pg. 1982). These lines show when something bad happens or does not go your way you turn and question God and assume that he hates you. You forget that God knows everything and has a plan. But what sometimes people do not realize is that the gate is always open (God will always be there). We are trapping ourselves in our own hell. That is exactly what Satan is doing. Satan is making Hell worse for himself (yes, hell
Satan has a relationship with his “evil” followers much like a king to his noble subjects (or God to his followers). This is especially evident in lines 436-459, when Satan appears like a commoner until he ascends his throne and is suddenly clad in glory. The hundreds of thousands of demons are all condensed around the capital of Hell, waiting with bated breath for “their great adventurer from the search / of foreign worlds,” “whom they wished beheld, /
Satan always demonstrates manipulation. Indeed, this is his instrumental trait when he makes speeches to other individuals. He gains an inconspicuous supremacy in the first disagreement between the wicked person in Book II by merely being the last to speak after they halt their debate. With monarchial pride, Satan claims the position of traitorous champion for fall of man (II, 428). Imperial sovereignty in his own monarchy,
Satan comes to man with his temptations as an angel of light, as he came to Christ. He has been working to bring man into a condition of physical and moral weakness, that he may overcome him with his temptations, and then triumph over his ruin. ...He well knows that it is impossible for man to discharge his obligations to God and to his fellow-men, while he impairs the faculties God has given him. The brain is the capital of the body... pg. 236
He does this by making us unable to hear the word with inattention, ill will, and ignorance. When we let things get in the way of our being able to be present and pay attention on Sunday morning the devil wins. When we have ill will towards members of the clergy or congregation or any other thing that goes along with the service, it causes us to have an aversion to the words we are hearing. Servants of Satan are so deceived by him that they are not able to understand the meaning of the word of God, so God blinds their mind to keep them from seeing the glory of
Aside from his ability to reason, and also to bring others to think for themselves, Satan is also highly independent and refuses to let himself be controlled by someone who he does not think to be worthy of
