The past few years I have had many unique opportunities and made many different decisions on the direction my life is taking. I have had multiple goals and challenges and where I am today has been formed with factors I did not always anticipate. For the last few years, I have worked in management, but before that I worked a variety of jobs. The different jobs I have worked have provided insight as to where I am now and how I would like to spend the remainder of my life. I graduated high school and went off to college in the fall as do many high school graduates. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I always loved drawing and took art classes in high school to further my abilities. I went to Auburn University and was accepted into their Architectural program. I chose Auburn because they are known nationwide, maybe even worldwide, for their program in Architecture. I thought this was what I wanted to do and was on my way to completing my dream. Architects make beautiful buildings and all kinds of amazing “works of art” for people to enjoy. Also some of the highest paid jobs are found in architecture and building. I figured I would be making great money, while doing something I loved. After a semester at Auburn, I was not so sure of my dream. I had realized that Architecture was not all fun and drawing. Math is not a favored subject for me even though I am good at it. I had always been in Honors Math classes and was on math team in junior high until I
Throughout my lifetime thus far, I have had 5 different careers. My first job was when I was 16 years old, where I worked as a cashier and stocker at the 99 Cents Only store. I had been promoted from a stocker to cashier within a couple months and ended up leaving the company a year later. When I was 17, my mother bought her first house after the divorce in the city of Surprise, Arizona. Working at the 99 Cents Only store would be to far for me to travel, so I found another job at Quiznos Subs. I ended up working as a cashier, but quickly moved up to a shift leader and assistant to the store owner. I was in charge of ordering supplies and counting down the register at night, while making deposits at the bank. I ended up working for Quiznos Subs until 2005, when I
When I was in high school I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. When I took Graphic Design my freshman year, I found something that I really liked and every since then I knew that it was something I wanted to do. I took it for 3 years and now Graphic Design is all I talk about. I found my passion and I’m pursuing
I have always loved creating things as a kid and to me having math involved just really spiked my interest .I chose this occupation because of a survey I took after receiving my ASVAB test and it gave me a lot of engineering and architectural professions. I have always had a fancy for numbers which is a plausible reason on why I take advanced classes for anything that is math-related: such as all core math courses, architecture and engineering. I've taken two years of architecture and about two years of engineering and have come to realize that I have a strong obsession for the both of these classes and can't decide on which one I want to choose for an occupation in without having regrets for not choosing the other. I felt like I should choose one that was close to home so that I could keep in touch with
During my first year at Pacific Lutheran University, I didn 't know who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do as a career. I am an individual who has little experience of the working world. Being a sophomore student, living at home with my parents and never have had a job, this may have contributed to my lack of awareness of the amount of skills that I will need for my career and not knowing what I like or dislike in a work place. After several months of contemplating back and forth and talking to many individuals, I decided I wanted a career in accounting. A career in accounting fits who I am as a person being math oriented, problem solver, and extremely organized.
Since I can remember, math has always been easy and exciting to me. In high school, the only classes I looked forward to involved math – other than sports. Upon entering college at Eastern Oklahoma State College on an academic and cheerleading scholarship, I chose mathematics as my major. When I came to Oklahoma State University in 2011, I was extremely unsure of what I wanted to study. I started out in architectural engineering because I knew that I loved math and numbers, as well as drawing and designing things. After a semester or so, I realized that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would and didn’t think I could build a career with it. I pursued another direction and changed my major to applied mathematics. I still wasn’t happy with my decision but was unsure on what to do next. During my second year at Oklahoma State, I joined the Cowboy Baseball Diamond Dolls. After getting to know some of the girls, I learned that some of them were in the sports management program. They all
Growing up, I did not have a dream job in mind. Whenever someone asked me what I aspired to be, I had no idea how to answer. “I want to work.” The vague answer always left my lips whenever someone probed me about my future. As college approached, I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted to pursue, and I was at a mental crossroad. This is where Montgomery College fit perfectly into my life. After I graduated from high school at the age of 15, I made the decision to attend Montgomery College and figure out my career path. It offered me a space where I could explore my passions and discover exactly what I wanted to do.
In the past, I did not know what I wanted to do to be honest. I thought life would just go on as usual and the future would just decide on something for me. In elementary school I dreamed about being an artist but when I got older people were criticizing me that I would not live a happy life doing just that. After hearing what they had to say, my dreams were crushed and I did not know what to do for an occupation that I would be proud of. In my junior year of high school, I took an engineering course and it piqued my interests.
Throughout my life, I always wondered what my profession would be when I grew up. My first choice was to be a nurse because I love to help people and make sure that they are well taken care of. When I reached high school, my thoughts about nursing tapered off because other careers interested me even more, such as becoming a lawyer. As I began researching more and more about lawyers, I talked to my work based learning teacher at school, and she recommended a part time job at a law firm. I began calling around, and entering my senior year of high school, I received my first job at a law firm. The first days of working at the law firm, I was extremely excited because I thought that I would be one step closer to reaching my goals as an attorney. I had the privilege of seeing what the attorneys did throughout the day, however as my experience in the firm progressed, my interest in becoming an attorney dwindled. I then realized I was back to square one and was extremely discouraged, because I did not know what I wanted to do with my life.
about what and/or who has motivated you toward this career choice and why. In addition, you want
I picked this career path because I enjoy drawing. I also enjoy designing and mapping out structures. I find both of these activities to be very peaceful and fun for me. When I was eight years old, I had the biggest set of Legos. I decided to use them all on one huge house. So I sat down, began to build and I even started mapping it out on paper. I spent nearly an entire day building this mansion and of course, when I was done, I showed my mom. When I showed it to her, she was amazed and the next sentence she spoke was one that stuck with me for years. My mom told me I should be an architect. That moment Nine years ago made me realize what I wanted to do in the future. I thought if designing buildings is a career, that’s what I’m going to do. Becoming an architect when I get out of school is a life-long goal of
There was a day that i was thinking of what i was going to do with the rest of my life outside of highschool and i came up blank. I tried to think of my skills and i could only think of two skills that would help me in life, and those skills are art and my great math mind. The professions that i could think of that need a good foundation of math and art is architecture. They need math so that they can tell how much weight the structure can take the angles that will help support the buildings and to get the exact size of the building. The art needed to become a architect is for the architect may make a layout of the building, to design a efficient building, and to design a building that will be pleasing to the design weather it be the coloring of the inside or the outside or the shape of the windows or the building in general.
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy-tale like, we tend to see life through a rose-colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible” -said Tony Robbins, author and life coach. Everyone has challenges throughout their life, but people have strengths that can lead up to effect their future. We use our goals to keep us motivated and our strengths to help us get past the challenges we face. Our weaknesses fade because our strengths become so strong and we are faced with new challenges. With each challenge we overcome we become stronger and we find more strengths in our challenges. I am a great friend because I always care for my friends and i'm their shoulder to cry on. I'm a very strong-willed person because I don't give up on something I want easily. I’m stubborn because I
Throughout my life, I have faced many challenges and obstacles that stood in my way. No matter the magnitude or even if there seemed to be no way possible, I always try and find a way. Every challenge that I have faced always required my maximum effort and was followed by success or failure, but this one is different. This is a challenge that I would have never in my life saw coming, this was a challenge where there was no succeeding or failing, but overall it made me a completely different person.
In life, we all go through challenges and it’s either we face them or walk away from it. Growing up, people will always have different ways of handling things that happens in their life. We can’t know what could happen and how we handle it because life is unexpected. As I see it is that if you tend to keep making the same mistakes, you’ll never get passed your past and if you learn from all of your mistakes, you can move forward with your life. Everyone has faced their challenges in their own way and not everything in life will be easy because I can tell you right now that no one’s life is perfect. Everyone has their flaws, but they're perfect in their own way possible.
