The game Destiny is a First Person Roleplaying game that takes place in the future where humans are at the age of extinction due to a long war fought against three alien races named the Vex, Fallen, and Hive. The war ends wielding no victor and heavy casualties on the human side as they are forced to reside in what the game calls “The Last City”. This game is set up to be a thrilling game, but upon playing the game it is found that the game is much undeveloped. The game has little to no story, a very unbalanced multiplayer, a broken loot system, a time consuming leveling up system, and is very repetitive. Destiny has little to no story, and according to Kevin VanOrd “Destiny wastes the opportunity to develop a mystery worth caring about, and …show more content…
These items can range from the color green, blue, purple, and yellow (In that order it is from common to rare). When the player picks up one of these “Engrams” (what they are called in the game) the player must take them to a special vendor who will then decode these engrams, and this vendor can sometimes be really random. “As it turns out, legendary engrams don’t always give you legendary gear. I have gone to the decoder guy with four purple legendary engrams, only to walk away with three useless blue “rare” items (Hamilton).” This example is why this game’s loot system is very broken. A “one in a hundred (Hamilton).” chance of getting a purple engram just for it to be a blue that is very disappointing, and even when it does end up being a legendary there is a chance that it will not even be for your character, according to Kirk Hamilton the chance of this happening is “66%” that is a huge percent and is another reason why this game’s loot system is …show more content…
The reason for having these flaws is that the game was underdeveloped. Games should never be rushed just to make money like this game was. Games should be fully developed before being released so that when a game is released it can satisfy the needs of those who play it. If a company can do that then they can make more money than they will make on an unfinished product such as Destiny. In short a product that is finished will always be better than a product that is not
The birth of a child is a truly magical occurrence. Once a baby’s gender is determined, either through ultrasound, or from the brief examination of a doctor, this small branch of a family’s inheritance, has already been designated with countless burdensome requirements to follow within their limited world. In regards to historical stereotypes, timid, little girls wear pink skirts and hair bows. These girls grow up to become housewives, who cook, clean and babysit the children. Meanwhile, boisterous young boys have the whole world to conquer and rule. The multiple responsibilities of a man are deemed as very important since he is the person who earns the family income. In contrast, Teddy, the main character of “The Fall of a City” by Canadian author Alden Nowlan, is a very inventive and quiet child, who uses his imagination to build himself a utopian escape in his dark, gloomy attic. He uses scrap paper to create the citizens of Upalia and cardboard to fabricate the radiant city of Theodoresburg. Eventually, Teddy’s aunt worries about what Teddy is constantly doing, hidden away from his family. His uncle heads to the attic only to discover the shocking revelation that Teddy has been playing with paper dolls and a doll house. Teddy’s uncle laughs and teases Teddy mercilessly, culminating in Teddy to go against his accomplishments and lose an important part of his individuality. Furthermore, the conflict between Teddy and his uncle is a manifestation of how many adults, such as
Murder, magic, and madness – those words succinctly described the World’s Fair, according to bestselling author Erik Larson. In his nearly legendary book, “the Devil in the White City,” the reader is led on a fantastical journey through the creation of a city of wonder and lights and through the horrors lurking behind closed doors. The vivid tales of two men – Daniel Burnham, a brilliant architect; and H. H. Holmes, a cunning serial killer – are subtly intertwined in the story of the White City. At least, that was what Erik Larson tried to present it as. Admittedly, Larson is to be commended for creatively portraying true facts in the form of a nonfiction narrative or novel; however, I dare say that “the Devil in the White City” greatly suffered
Throughout the story, Lost in the City by Edwards P. Jones there are many different ways the city influences the different characters. Lost in the City takes the reader through some difficult times of many African Americans in Washington. The different characters form bond that cannot be broken in order to handle what life throws at them. In the stories "The Girl Who Raised Pigeons" and "The First Day" the city influences the different main characters in different ways, to help them come of age.
The collection of articles, “The Shame of the Cities” written by Lincoln Steffens, evidently reveals the history of corruption in many American cities during the 18th and 19th century. The chapter, “Pittsburg: A City Ashamed” focuses wholly on the effect Christopher Magee had on the city of Pittsburg during the time of his ruling. With the help of William Flinn, Thomas Bigelow, and E.M. Bigelow, Chris was in complete control over the city. While some of what he was doing was very helpful toward, it is undeniable that he was the cause of Pittsburgh’s extensive corruption.
Eric Larson pulled me in once I read the title of the first chapter, “The Black City”. What locked me in, however, was when Larson expressed women in the city and the dangers of being a female during the specific time period. Public warnings addressing that “advertisements upon their face bear the marks of vulgarity, nor do we regard it safe for any lady to answer such unseemly utterances” (Larson pg 11) make it clear that there is a problem. Although it seemed like a lot of information to grasp in the moment, looking back I’ve noticed that the author left room for me to picture what these criminals wanted from such innocent women.
THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY by Erik Larson is a well-researched book. In order for Larson to accurately depict the events that were presented in the book, he did a lot of research. Larson visited the Graceland cemetery where many of Chicago’s elite’s from that time were enshrined. In the book itself, he included about 35 pages of citations. His research was very thorough and he shows readers evidence of his research. Amongst his citation Larson himself stated that he “did not employ researchers,” nor did he “use the internet” (395). Any and all the information he included were from physical sources. He went to many libraries, visited Chicago’s Historical Society, and visited other archives. He also stated that he “ tried to keep [his] citations
If I were on a deserted island there would be 3 things I would take with me such as my favorite book, favorite food item, and a famous celebrity. A type of book I would enjoy reading is Ender’s Game, which is a sci fi book. Since I would have to bring only one food item, I would choose a crunchy, green salad, with salted croutons, and topped with french dressing. Lastly, since I am on a deserted island, I would bring someone who can help me survive, which is Charlie Hunnam.
Imagine that one day we finally discover that we are not alone in this universe, but instead of celebrating or making a contact we unleash a war on these far more advanced creatures. Now the Earth can only rely on young children to fight the aliens and anything can happen if we lose, aliens taking over the Earth or even destroy our planet. This sounds terrifying, but this is a good thought to think about and Orson Scott Card reenacted this idea into a book called The Ender’s Game. The Ender’s game is about a kid, named Ender, who is invited to school where they learn how to fight an insect alien like creatures called “buggers”. Ender develop new skills as he takes a simulation after simulation and destroys the alien
Ender’s Game is about a boy who, along with other children, goes to Battle School in space as preparation for going to war with an alien race, known as the Buggers, that has threatened mankind. It is set in the future. Ender's Game and its sequel Speaker for the Dead, written by Orson Scott Card, were both awarded the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award. The series continues with Xenocide, Children of the Mind, Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, "First Meetings in the Enderverse", Shadow of the Giant, Shadows in Flight, A War of Gifts, and Ender in Exile. Ender in Exile takes place after Ender's Game and before Speaker for the Dead. Card also plans to write Shadows Alive, which connects the "Shadow" series and "Speaker" series.
The concept of space is a topic that confuses many people. When people are asked, what the concept of space is they tend to come up with numerous answers. People say space is something that is seen as a place that exist outside of Earth. While, this is true there are also more definitions of space that many individuals don’t know about. Space can also include the distance between objects, people etc. and the interactions that happened between them. In the article, “The Power of Place and Space,” it talks about how “space has an effect on interaction and that this effect is most clearly expressed as a function of distance” (Sack 327). In the movie, “Ender’s Game,” directed by Gavin Hood, the main character Ender, played by Asa Butterfield, is seen living in an institutionalized space. The institution prepares the students there for a future alien invasion throughout the movie, as Ender progresses through the ranks of the institution, he slowly dismantles the blind loyalty he had in this institutionalized space. This internal space directly affects his external space and how he interacts with the people around him while he is aboard the institutionalized space.
Slaughter city was inspired by a number of work-related incidents that include but are not limited to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911 and the 1993 strike at the Fishers meat packing plant in Louisville Kentucky. That information would have been great had I known that before watching the show. The action takes place at the slaughterhouse and follows the lives of the employees and management. Set sometime during the 1990s the play introduces us 22 unknown characters going on about something that will later be revealed. The play Then shifts to three of the factory workers Brandon young white male Roach a black woman in her early to mid-forties whom Brandon is in love with and Magic a white woman who is presumably in her mid-thirties. These characters usually
With Destiny reaching its 1 year anniversary soon, the game went through many changes that have improved since launch, but is it worth buying before The Taken King expansion is released? I took a very long break from Destiny due to it lacking in what most games have for $60, which is content. Destiny had released an Alpha & Beta prior to its original launch giving players an idea of what the game is and how it would be played. The biggest innovation that Bungie wanted to utilize in Destiny was the social aspect, having players communicate and meeting to do Raids, Strikes and other activities for players to enjoy and accomplish. As so many of you know that have played Destiny, know that these things that were promised
Hi, it's Tina, Destiny's mom. How did Rebecca enjoy her first week? I know the girls haven't seen each other much lately, but I just wanted to let you know in case they do, I mentioned to Destiny that I felt it best for the girls to let it go as far as them asking to go to the other one's school. I explained that you have reasons that she goes to Akimel as we have reasons that we changed her to Pueblo and there's absolutely no reason they can't be friends even if they go to different schools. However, the reason that I'm sending this to both of you ; is to let you know what I discussed with Destiny and at the same time to let you know that my invitation if needed, for a ride to the bus stop no matter which school they go to is still open,
Next let’s talk about Destiny’s Bain, Story. Now story is something that destiny has improved on through its life span. People went from making the story the head of the destiny joke to praising improvements in voice acting and Lore. However, it’s not where it needs to be, not where it could be. For one I don’t know a single destiny character, I mean of course I know names. Xur is a fan favorite when he comes with the right loot. We all praise master Rahool in hopes that all of our engrams give us legendary weapons, although we know they won’t (anyone miss the days when purples weren’t guaranteed to be legendries?). The thing is, those characters weren’t written to be popular. We weren’t supposed to kneel before master Rahool. That happened as a trickledown effect of loot being a main theme of Destiny, and those characters being tied to loot. I don’t care about Zavala, I don’t care about Cayde, I don’t care about Shaxx, I don’t care about Zavala. I had no reason to. I care about Toland because his character was divulged upon in the grimoire cards. His story and why he became shattered began to interest me. A character who kind of wasn’t ever in the game was one of the most interesting characters of the
Second edition of Sex in the City franchise by director Michael Patrick King, the girls are settling into their 40’s or in Samantha’s case her 50’s. Each gal is still looking fabulous but needing a break from the doldrums of daily life, they are invited to Abu Dhabi to experience the newest hotel in hopes that Samantha’s PR firm will endorse it. The bulk of the movie follows the ladies on their awkward vacation in the rigid Middle East and the life lessons learned there. Sex in the City 2 misses the mark in its latest attempt at the box office by choosing the location of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates, scripting a lazy floundering plot line and a movie length that could have been trimmed by more than a few minutes.
