The Future Is Green Architecture

More and more people create our hotels, schools, homes, theme parks, and several other structures. Those people are called architects, they are people who design buildings and construct them in some cases. People may also define them as scientists and artists. Frank Wright and Frank O’Gehry are similar, however, they have their own unique style and design when it comes to buildings.

Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one tends to focus on the building’s function and the way it looks. Architecture is more than mere buildings that serve its function to meet our own human needs; it has a lot more to offer. Architecture matters because it can become a symbol that represents something that has a deeper meaning as well as an “ultimate representation of a culture.” Architecture is a powerful icon because it symbolizes experience that we as a community share, which is far beyond what other forms art can offer.

In the Book Building Green Skyscrapers by Mary Reid, the wind turbine is the best because it can be be use for two uses. To start wind turbines can power up buildings. The narrator stated “The wind spins the huge blades of a wind turbine... the turbine runs a machine called a generator. “ (Reid 5). This shows that this can save energy because all extra energy goes into the batteries for later use. Furthermore, Wind is the best type of source. The narrator stated “Wind power is one free source of clean electricity… wind does not produce harmful gases… Nobody needs to worry about running low on wind” (Reid 4). An architect is someone that designs and builds houses for people to live in or work in. Architects usually work in offices where they meet their clients, but occasionally they must travel to construction sites. They also must know how to design structures, know building and construction knowledge, and be able to analyze the environment. If someone is interested in becoming an architect, they need to know the different degrees needed to obtain, the specific skills needed and the demand and salary for the desired location (BLSbls).

When looking for a place to live it's not often we think about the architect who carefully thought out, planned and developed the building we are considering as our next home. However, knowing the architect and his or her vision for the building and how it came about will give you a new appreciation for the place you have chosen to call home.

In the book Building Green Skyscrapers by Mary Reid, the solution that would be more effective to solve the problems that skyscrapers create is the Hearst Tower in New York City because this tower saves water and steel. First, the Hearst Tower saves water and also reuses it at the same time. It is used as a cooling system and for watering the plants. In the text, it states “The waterfall cools and adds moisture and freshness to the dry indoor air. The water comes from rainwater that the Hearst Tower collects on the roof” (Reid 20). Architecture has been a part of humanity for almost as long as agriculture and literature, and like literature, it can be used to determine the level of a civilization. Also like how literature served the purpose of both entertainment and as a mean of transmission of culture from one generation to the next, architecture too was used for more than just infrastructure. Architecture was used as a way to influence the emotions of people. Unlike literature whose meaning may be lost in translation or be changed due to people not remembering properly as it was transfer of word of mouth, the original intent of the structure can be kept, as long as the building is properly maintained to prevent degradation.

I plan to change America through sustainable architecture, because it helps maintain our environment clean and healthy. Through sustainable architecture you can take advantage of a site through its climate and it surrounding resources. By using solar power you use natural resources cleanly and help against greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the use of fossil fuels. Using solar power could also reduce cost by about 50%. Burning fossil fuels harms the environment because it releases Carbon dioxide which pollutes the air and could cause lung cancer. By changing the orientation of a building and its windows you could also save energy. The orientation of a structure should be from East to West, because you will gain more heat in the winter and

The question that we might be asking ourselves is that “do we need architects in our society?” The answer is yes in my opinion because architects bring the life out of things, make people think twice of coming back to a work of art, and make things look appealing to the human eye. A very good example of architecture coming to a city is El Paso our home town. For example, downtown El Paso was a very popular place for people to go hand out and have a very nice night life. But, downtown El Paso took a turn for the worse and it started to become a very unpopular place to hang out in El Paso. I will talk about how downtown El Paso has been changing since it atmosphere went downhill.

Architecture should reflect meaningfully all aspects of the society’s past-present-future. There is a need to introduce architecture that respects the environment, the people, and reflect the identity of the place.

Green buildings could become one of the main factors to preserve our rapidly decaying environment. There is no easy way to define a green building, but a green building is essentially a structure that amplifies the positives and mitigates the negatives throughout the entire life cycle of the building (Kriss, 2014).
