The NCAA is a non-profit organization that organizes and executes college sports, which includes football, basketball, etc. Key word from the previous sentence would be “non-profit organization”. What kind of “non-profit organization” makes as much money as they do? The NCAA players bring in great revenue with their outstanding efforts in bringing their team up to the top, because that is what the fans like to watch. Now does it seem fair that the NCAA does not give the players back any money at all to the players that actually bring the money in? In simple terms the NCAA makes large amounts of profits and needs to start distributing some of the money to the players (History of College Basketball, 2013). According to another article, the
Grand Junction, Colorado is a town in Western Colorado that has taken steps to excel in the health care field by providing cost effective and efficient care to their community. In lecture this week, we have learned that the key system concepts are: shared vision, shared reality, people, parts, interrelationships, leverage, adaptability and iterative learning.1 The article: Grand Junction, Colorado: A Health Community That Works, is an example of a patient-centered medical home that currently exists in the United States, and should be looked at as a possible solution to our current health care overspending crisis. I believe that the health care provided in Grand Junction, Colorado has excelled in all these concepts and will discuss their
A not-for-profit organization responsible for the provision of leisure services would be Boys & Girls Club. This is an organization that truly holds up the values of being a not-for-profit organization. Their mission is "To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens" (Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 2013). With a mission such as this it is obvious that this is an organization that is about the youth and enabling them to grow as individuals.
Until spending time in the nonprofit program at Johnson, I never considered the many different tasks associated with starting a nonprofit. Additionally, through growing up at a long-established nonprofit, I took for granted the work involved in establishing it as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The IRS website provides explanation for the many these required tasks needed to file for tax-exemption status. Filing the articles of incorporation and establishing bylaws remain crucial for an organization to receive recognition as a legal entity. However, establishing a nonprofit involves a great deal more than simply attaining tax-exemption status. Tschirhart and Bielefeld highlight many of these aspects, such as developing the mission and vision statements of the organization (Tschirhart and Bielefeld 49). As the reading from last week discussed, evaluating and acquiring resources for an organization should stem from the mission of an organization. Even more so, in order for that to take place, the organization needs established with a mission that will keep it rooted in its cause and a vision

A non-profit organization that interested me a year ago and am proud of being a member of is the 519. The 519 has created ways of reaching to the LGBT community by presenting their organization's objectives and goal through platforms such as online volunteer membership, social media that strengthen active participation. The 519 strives in establishing relationships between volunteers, employees and participants within the organization. As a non-profit organization, The 519 has shown that NPOs can sustain balance and achieve success through the collective support of participants that actively participate within the organization. The great thing about this non-profit organization is that participants are not only assisted by counselors but volunteers
In today’s world there are hundreds of thousands of non-profit organizations (NPOs) established at the local, regional, national and international level, and their influence is increasing. Non-profit organizations even considered the third sector of the economy (the first two is the public and private, or commercial). It is believed that they have a special role in development of civil society. In those countries, which have largely shaped the system of legislative regulation of the sector (USA, UK, Australia, etc); the state spends huge sums on research programs in the field of standardization of the NPO.
