Studying as a year 10 student, the next few years of school are extremely important to my future and planning is essential because it will make major changes in future life. There are 5 identified capabilities in SACE which students should aim and focus, to achieve a successful outcome. The idea of these guidelines of communication, citizenship, personal development, work and learning is to help connect learning with the personal attributes needed to live, work, be an active person and outshine in society.
There are 5 identified capabilities in SACE, which includes communication, citizenship, personal development, work and learning. These are all introduced in the Personal Learning Plan usually studied in year 10. The idea is to help connect learning with the personal attributes needed in future life, such as live, work, and be an active person in society. Students should aim to achieve all capabilities to be a better person. The capability of communication is an essential skill in daily life. Communication is the activity of conveying knowledge through the exchange of thoughts, messages and information by verbal expression, visuals, signals, writing, or manner. It is any act by which one person gives to or receives from another person information about that person's necessity, desires, perceptions, knowledge, or affective states (mood, feeling, attitude). The communication process is accomplished once the receiver understands the sender's idea. We use the skill of
Communication is the hub of emotional and social intelligence. Authors De Janasz, Dowd and Schneider state communication is defined as, “the act of exchanging thoughts, messages, or information, it facilitates collaboration and cooperation” these transmissions are presented in different mediums such as writing, reading, speaking, listening, or no-verbally (2015, p.153).
Social issues and skills needed by students for their future: Some of the social issues are Racism, Sexism, poverty, immigration issues, child labor and current economy. Skills that are required for the bright future of students are effective communication, leadership quality, emotional intelligence, digital literacy, team working, and problem solving skill, entrepreneurship and global citizenship. They should have some work experience and involved in some volunteer work and co-curricular activities.
I completed a SWOC analysis from which stands for strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges. In this form I listed 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses, specified current opportunities available and challenges that prevent success. This helped me to draw up targets to input in my personal development plan. See attachment 2
Communication is the process of exchanging information, thoughts and feelings between people, through speaking, writing or body language. Effective communication is about more than just exchanging information. This concept makes sure that the transmitted message is received and understood by the other person in the exact way it was intended. However the other person has to demonstrate that they have listened and gained full understanding of the message.
Through the use of capabilities and priorities, the curriculum has become a naturally integrated syllabus inclusive of developing skills relating to 21st century active and informed citizenship. The Australian curriculum is an inclusive, integrated program with the combination of the curriculum key learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities formed from the goals stated within the Declaration (Churchill et al., 2013). The general capabilities cater towards seven essential skills of a 21st century learner such as numeracy, literacy, information and communication technology, personal and social capability, critical and creative thinking, intercultural understanding and ethical understanding that can make part of any learning
Communication is the process of gathering meaning from the world around us and using verbal and non-verbal messages to share this meaning with others. (Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond, 2005) More specifically, interpersonal communication can be defined as; “a distinctive, transactual form of human communication involving mutual influence, usually for the purpose of managing relation ships.” (Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond, 2005, p. 6) Interpersonal communication is extremely complex and encompasses many different themes and issues that affect many aspects of our daily lives. These
When we communicate we send and receive information such as our wants, needs, thoughts, emotions, and ideas to others. Although we may consider it as important as breathing, most us take this gift for granted. Communication facilitates not only the process of sharing information and knowledge, but helps us form relationships and connections to our world and makes our lives better.
Communication is an ongoing process in which individuals exchange messages whose meanings are influenced by the history of the relationship and the experiences of the participants. (Adler, p.384) Communication depends on relationships between the people who are communicating, and on common basics between them. Problems in communications between people may arise due to differences in cultures, perceptions, values, and expectations from life.
The skill I developed most in the Learning Capability quadrant was my learning profile. Becoming more organised was an aspect of my personal development which I thought most important as a basis on which to grow and develop my professional capabilities.
StrengthsFinder and StrengthsQuest empowered me to discover my five greatest talents that I can develop into strengths to help promote success in the SPS program. Until Strategies for Success I viewed many of my strengths as weaknesses needing improvement rather than natural talents that can be developed into my greatest strengths. “Qualities that they’d been forever teased about or criticized for were seen from a different angle—as their greatest talents and their potential for strengths” (Clifton, 2006, p. 73). StrengthsQuest empowers students to not only discover their greatest talents, but to focus on and work on their talents and develop them into strengths to produce excellence.
Communication is about how we interact and exchange information with other people. It is a two-way process which includes giving information to someone and receiving information from people (Middleton, 2004)
I had made several initiatives through which I hoped to achieve certain goals both in academics and professionally. I had embarked more on the process that I believed would help me to think about my achievements as well as to plan my personal, educational, social and career development. Since making this personal learning development plan I have witnessed not just big changes but the small things happening in my career, social and learning areas. I was able to create a clear SWOT analysis, in which I recognized my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats not only in academics, but also in my social life personally and professionally. With this plan, I worked hard to perfect my strengths, correct the weaknesses and make them my strong points, utilize the opportunities placed within my abilities and finally recognize and avoid any negative effect that was posed by the threats in my SWOT analysis.
There are many core competencies that have been identified, developed and put into place in my school. There are different levels that could develop the competency, all of them are important when looking at the mission of the school. The mission for South High is to provide
Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. (10 sub targets).
Communications is defined as the “act of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else;” in other words, communication (Merriam-Webster, 2015). Communication is something that many people overlook and argue to be unessential to learn about; I have to argue otherwise. Communication is the thing that allows us to express our emotions, feelings, and opinions to others in a variety of ways. There are multitudes of ways that communication can be interpreted ranging, but not limited to nonverbal communication to systems of symbols (Survey of Communication Study/Chapter 2 - Verbal Communication, 2000). During this course, I have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of Communications, and how it is interpreted into our daily lives. Not only that, but during week two of this course, we set personal goals that we wanted to achieve by the end of the quarter. Being a Nursing major, communication is crucial, especially concerning that the majority of my time will be consisted of talking and working with patients. Not only can I say that my personal goals have been achieved, but I took more out of this class than was expected.
