The great similarity between the two novels “The Fifth Child” and “The Shining” is very clear in terms of the type of the novel, story and events. Despite the similarity between the two novels, but the significance and purpose of both stories are completely different. It is clear that Comparison between the stories would be focusing on the events of the story and characters, also, both novels share the same essence of idea of story as there are many common things that are easy to compare between these two novels. Both novels are horror story and they are similar in the presence of abnormal child but in every story, the child has a different role in actions. For example, in The Fifth Child “Ben” was acting violently and brutally and all people scared of him. The main idea of the fifth child story is to present a social problem that has a big effect on society but in the shining, the story describes baby specifications that are illogical and unthinkable as mentioned before, the shining is a fictional story and has no real existence. Fear was boils down to the horrific events that occur in the haunted hotel and in the actions of the child. Similarly, in the fifth child the fear became reality, Ben’s mother was afraid of the dispersion of her family but that's what really happened. His siblings scattered among the boarding schools and the grandparent's houses and people avoid talking to him. The mother found herself among two options, either to leave her child to die or save his life, so he may change in his behavior, also, for her family she have two options are no less compelling than the options related to her child, the fifth child. She ventured to the comfort and happiness of their children and their study and safety, and hopes to acclimatize with Ben's violence, which seeks to trim and impose restrictions by threatening to return him to prison where he was. However, there was no hope and everything she was afraid of had happened. In contrast, there was great similarity between Ben's mother and Danny’s mother where both are concerned about their child. Danny’s mother was always worried and scared especially after she noticed the changes that had occurred with her husband in his actions and acting. She thought he was returned to his bad habits and she was scared if he will hurt her or her son again because of what happened in the past when her husband had already broke his son’s arm.
