Opinions shape someone’s personality and the decisions people make. When it comes to opinions, what do you think? if someone does not see the same perspective on an idea or situation, they can be pushed out. Everybody's ideas and interests vary and with this being said, somebody can not agree with others' opinions and exclude them. While reading the book Anthem, there are many situations where the main character Equality 7-2521 has experienced being an outsider as his interests don't match the rest of the society. With these thoughts, he was pushed away by his peers. Even with the people he was close with, they did not agree on some ideas which made him outcast. These people pushing him out is a common example of not being able to fit in based on a personal interest. In today’s world, not being invited somewhere because of a difference in interests can be taken as being excluded. Even when people meet somebody new who shares common interests, others can still outcast one due to a variation in thoughts. The feeling of being excluded is considerably similar to being an outsider. With this difference in ideas, people can have barriers between them, causing a feeling of being an outsider to even people they are familiar

The book Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, celebrates the controversial and enduring legacy of her controversial prospective. The book is written in the context of a journal, in an age that had lost all trace of science and civilization. Anthem portrays a totalitarian world of the future along with being technologically primitive. The world of Anthem does not allow the people to think for themselves, but for each other. Not having the ability to think for oneself impedes man to be self-sufficient and in this case, to progress technologically. Because of the society’s ability being hindered, it causes the society to not be able to advance, which is seen consistently throughout the novel in many events.
Individuality is not tolerated by the society because it represents inequality, which the society does not wish to be associated with. “We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives.” (Rand 21). Throughout the novel, the reader starts to realize how their society is kept equal through most of the dialogue and feelings towards the other men. Another example of equality shown in the novel is that all of the people in the society are expected to follow the rules and have a part in the same activities as one another. “We are one in all and all in one… only the great WE…” (Rand 19). Here the reader starts to understand that their nation accepts the purpose of their society which is to exhibit equality by treating everyone equal to the other members. “… there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone.” (Rand 17). Readers evaluate how the members of the society treat each other equal by acknowledging the transgression of individuality. Their society believes that individualism is dangerous to their community which results with everything in their life being based on plurals. For example, everyone in their society is meant to address themselves with the pronoun “we” instead of “I” because the pronoun “I” represent individuality. Everyone in this society is meant to be treated as equals and they are currently keeping that rule in

The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.
