Everybody has a fear of something. A fear of snakes, heights, clowns. Some fears are more common, like Arachnophobia-the fear of spiders. And some fears aren’t as common, like Ombrophobia-the fear of rain. As irrational as they might sound to others, all fears are real to the person with the fear. For someone who doesn’t have the same fear, they might think your fear isn’t scary or doesn’t make sense. People sometimes make fun of other people because of their fears. But you shouldn’t make fun of someone for something they’re afraid of or frightened to do, because we’re all human and no one is perfect. I used to have a fear of planes and flying. My fear of planes started when I became afraid of heights. When I was up on a really high …show more content…
There were a lot of people there, and the loudness of people’s conversations filled the airport. After we ate delicious burgers, we walked into another room. It was very quiet and the smell of new carpet filled the room. We waited until it was time to board the plane. When it was time to board the plane we walked down a long metal tunnel. The ground was like little metal bubble wrap that didn’t pop. We rolled our suitcases down the bumpy metal tunnel, and got onto the plane. The smell of fresh fabric from the seats filled the plane. We put our suitcases up above us and sat down. I sat in near the isle, and the plane seemed fine, though we weren’t in the air yet. They went over a lot of safety things and I began be become nervous. At first, when the plane first took off, it was really cool. When the plane was lifting up and you could feel it as if you were flying on your own, but then when we were flying in the air for a long time, I became more nervous. The plane flew from Utah to California, and it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. But that flight wasn’t the one I really scared of, it was the flight over ocean that I was scared of.
We landed in Los Angeles, and stayed in the noisy airport until our next flight. The airport had a lot of more people than the last airport. So the airport sound was filled with everyone’s discussions. When we boarded the plane, it was a lot bigger and less claustrophobic. I sat by the window and
Introduction: Almost everyone has an irrational fear or two—of mice, for example, or your annual dental checkup. For most people, these fears are minor. But when fears become so severe that they cause tremendous anxiety and interfere with your normal life, they’re called phobias. A phobia is an intense fear of something that, in reality, poses little or no actual danger. Common phobias and fears include closed-in places, heights, highway driving, flying insects, snakes, and needles. However, we can develop phobias of virtually anything. Most phobias develop in childhood, but they can also develop in adults. If you
Even though the original onset my have been on or off a plane, the fear can also be triggered by events: reading
You are in an airport waiting for your plane to arrive. You've never flown before, and are more terrified than you can ever remember being. Everyone has told you the supposedly comforting statistics - "millions of planes take off each day and there's only a handful of crashes," "flying is safer than driving." You know rationally that there is no reason to be so scared, but regardless your heart is racing, your palms are sweating, and you're light-headed. Simply the thought of being up in the air, out of control, makes you feel faint. Finally the flight attendant announces that your plane has arrived. But as all the other passengers line up to get onboard, you grab your luggage and walk straight out of the airport,
As I got stuck with the window aisle seat, my attention was diverted outside the plane; clouds as white as snow, and the surrounding atmosphere was completely empty, but the noise level on the plane was highly aggravating to my ears, so I forced in a pair of headphones into my ears. Yet, I could still hear the chatter of other passengers, the wailing from children and the constant repetition of the stewardesses asking passengers “Any beverages?”
It didn’t hit me this whole experience was real until I crossed the threshold of the departure bridge into the cabin. I was scared and I was nervous. Moving to New Zealand was easy. I was three and there was still time to make friends. This time, however, I would be walking into a classroom of kids that already have their friend groups sorted. I would also say excited but the other two emotions definitely overpowered the excitement I was feeling. My only knowledge of the house we were moving into was about an hour’s worth of a camcorder walkthrough from some relatives. It looked nice enough on video, but I was apprehensive as to what it looked like in real life. I’m not sure if it was because I had just spent 24 hours in either an airport or an airplane, but when we pulled up to the house I was amazed. I looked better than what the video portrayed and any nervousness I felt earlier melted away. I was excited to start a new chapter of my
Lost my way in Seattle airport was the first thing made me felt nervous. It was already in America, but I didn’t have time to take a time for looking out the view outside because I couldn’t fine the place to transfer my luggage to Salt Lake City, also, the time was limited for boarding but I was still looking for where I could get the boarding pass. I was running in a hurry and kept asking people for help, it was winter but I
As we exited the plane we were jostled and thrown around by the other passengers who seemed to be in a rush, and they were very discord. Once we have made it to baggage claim, we got our bags and headed for our taxi that would take us to our brand new home. When we were walking towards our car, I saw a beautiful vista, and it almost made me forget I had a giant stain on my beautiful skirt.
I had never been on an airplane. My stomach felt like I had just eaten rotten fish and I was about to throw up. I was so excited to go, but at the same time I was scared because I had never been on a plane. We waited in the airport for at least an hour. Finally our flight was called, as I walked on the plane my heart was about to jump out of my skin. After the flight attendant had went through all the rules and we put our seat belts on the plane was going to take off. I thought the worst thing about the flight was taking off and landing. I didn?t like taking off and landing because my ears popped. Other than the fact that my ears popped taking off and landing the flight went smooth, we didn?t crash. When the plane landed, I couldn?t wait to stand on solid ground again.
My family and I were so excited that we didn't even sleep the night before. We spent our Thursday night watching movies and talking about what are plans were for the trip. Once the clock hit 4 o'clock in the morning , we left our house and were on our way to the airport. The airport was quiet and peaceful. I could smell the freshly brewed coffee once I set foot in the airport. We checked in, then waited patiently for our flight to board. Suddenly we heard on the overhead speaker, “Flight to New York, New York is now boarding, Flight to New York, New York now boarding.” Once we boarded the plane, we settled in and got comfy. The flight was fairly smooth with little turbulence and the sweet sound of babies crying filled my ears. Once we heard the pilot's voice telling the crew to prepare for landing, my excitement grew big.
After an exhausting 17 hours of flight, we had arrived. Dad picks up an exhausted me and a half-asleep Mom from the airport. We head to our new apartment which was very exciting. I had never lived in an apartment before. After our tiring trip, we get a well-earned sleep.
However, phobia can even cause people to risk their health. For example, the fear of dentists can leave people suffering from it willing to risk the health of their teeth in order to avoid having to go through an exam or procedure ( MacKay). When one knows about an upcoming confrontation, it can be the reason why one can not sleep or finds it hard to focus on important tasks. Due the change in daily routine, this unrealistic fear can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go about everyday life, brought on by and object, event or situation. But even animals have anxieties and phobias just as every human being (www.phobia-help.de). A phobia is an irrational fear, one knows that the object or situation, one is scared off, can not hurt one, but one is still afraid. A reason for this is that the human mind can not distinguish what is real and imaginary. When one has uncontrollable anxiety attacks, he loses rational judgement, leading to complicated problems. However, anyone can develop a phobia, men and women, teens and young adults, and elderly lady or a one-year-old boy (MacKay).
The trip to Kauai was one of the most memorable parts. I’m not really a traveler who goes on planes multiple times a year so of course, I was scared. I was only ten anyways. The feeling of the plane slowly and steadily gaining speed, speeding down the runway like a racecar, and soaring off the ground like any flying bird. The liftoff and takeoff where always the scariest parts of a flight in my opinion. The feeling of lifting into the air not belonging to the ground anymore but instead to the air that is one of the scariest parts. When you tilted upwards to the sky and are still increasing altitude, it feels sickening. That was also one of the best part because of the rush and knowing that “gravity can’t hold me down now”!
I woke up from my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for the plane to begin its descent so I gathered my belongings and adjusted my seat until it was upright. As the airplane began to descend, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I could feel so much energy rush through my veins as my ears popped and I finally heard the flight attendant say, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Singapore Changi Airport!”
As soon as the door opened, the heat hit me. It was like putting a hot iron in front of my face. But it felt even worse as there was a slight wind which pushed the heat towards me. My body was surrounded in a blanket of heat and I even started to sweat slightly. My uncle told me to wait by the lift as he went to collect the car so I wouldn’t have to walk as far and drag my suitcase along. While I waited, I took time to look around at the surroundings. I could see mountains which stretched towards the clouds and the airport behind me. There were a vast number of people walking around from their flight looking drowsy and with no energy. The frequent red double-decker bus also came and a few planes flew above my head. I didn’t even have to look, but I could hear the planes departing and arriving. The planes all looked the same in the sky, big and white with some sort of logo. During the wait, I took a few steps to take away the cramp. Although I had trainers on, I could feel and see that the floor was new. The concrete looked
Luckily most of us suffer from seemingly less harmful phobias that may not trigger an emotional outpour every day of our lives. Due to the unlikeliness of confrontation some people are able to live their lives avoiding phobias they might have procured. For example, a more common phobia known would be Coulrophobia, the fear of clowns. Although you may be completely terrified of clowns, you do not wake up every morning knowing you have to face one. You do however have to draw comprise whenever carnival time comes around. Even though you may completely adore the amenities of a festival you steer clear of the park to avoid any clowns, sacrificing amusement to bypass fear.
