During the Renaissance, people began to stray away from the Catholic Church, and began thinking for themselves. While doing so, people began to reconnect to old Roman traditions. Subsequently, the Enlightenment was born soon after. The Enlightenment was a new way of thinking also known as The Age Of Reason. John Locke and Thomas Hobbes are two famous philosophers of the Enlightenment that are known for having two different views on government. John Locke believed in a democracy and expressed that humans have the ability to govern themselves. However, Hobbes believed that humans are selfish and need a single leader(king) that should govern all affairs. In 1795 Napoleon was the man of the hour after he defended the delegates and greeted thousands with a cannonade and attackers fled. Napoleon became known as the savior of Paris and many praised him. In his battle against Austria and Sardinia in 1796 he failed to repeat the victory. He gave a speech to his troops to keep the enougared and not to feel set back by the loss. This speech was a success because he and his troops continued fighting many more battles and capturing many more cities(document 1). Another change that happened due to the Revolution was Lycees or secondary schools opening. These schools were open to people of all backgrounds and would give them a chance to office after graduation. This would make public office less corrupt and have experienced government officials. This was one of the plans Napoleon used to restore order(Document 6). The last thing that Napoleon did to restore order is creating a set of codes. Code. This gave the country a uniform set of laws and eliminated many injustices. Sadly it limited liberty and promoted order that limited some rights. Things like freedom of speech was prohibited.
