The Effect of Video Games “In 1972, the Surgeon General issued the following warning on violent TV programs: “It is clear to me that the causal relationship between televised violence and antisocial behavior is sufficient to warrant appropriate and immediate remedial action. … There comes a time when the data are sufficient to justify action. That time has come.”” (Steinfeld, 1972). In the decades since hundreds of studies have been done on the effects of violent media exposure and violence. 1972 was an age of censored television violence, and violence on television was still seen as detrimental too many people. These games that are called “first person shooter” games put the player in the head of the character being controlled and allows the player to view the violence from a perspective that the player can more identify with. I for one do believe that violence in video games in some ways can affect a person and their reality. I have played some of these games and have personally heard how some of these kids talk to each other while playing online. These kids are using language like grown men and are absolutely elated by the sight of blood in these games. No matter what time I am online playing you can count on hearing these kids cussing and gloating over there latest kill. I started playing these games later in life so I feel that the games don’t have as much subliminal effect on me, but these kids who grew up on “Mortal Kombat” and have evolved with these games to where they now are at risk of having a very low temperament towards their peers. The aggression that these kids show online may be an act but I tend to believe that it is only partly an act and that these kids feel invincible when in the mind frame of the character that they are controlling. “Playing violent video games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Mortal Kombat can increase a person 's aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in actual life”. (Smith, E., & King, L. (Eds.) 2014). It has also been confirmed
Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and Doom. Many know these games for their violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or gameplay involving shooting or beating up opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the last few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them. Many believe those who play the games become more aggressive as a result of their violent nature, while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one’s behavior. Society should realize that violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players’ behavior.
On the other hand some research suggests video games decreases emotional sensitivity in children. The article “Impact of Video games on this generation “states,”That violent video games can make children less sensitive to pain.”This shows that kids are being desensitised over time by video games and thats its taking their emotion of pain because they are shown such violence and gore in the video games that it takes that aspect of them away.Proven by the article,”Video Games Have no effect on children’s behavior ,New study Finds” by Abigail Elise concludes , that long term exposure to video games do not lead to behavior problems like deficit disorder or depression. This proves that video games don't get rid or water down their emotions and that it doesn't make them develope disorders or any other behavioral problems. In conclusion video games do not wash away the gamers feelings and it doesnt give you behavioral problems.
Violent video games are undoubtedly a legalized drug to children and teens, numbing their thoughts and reprogramming their minds. Like a drug, it desensitizes them, and makes them more prone to violence. This idea of violent video games was not a phenomenon until the later 20th century, and evolved from racing into enemies, to free-for-all drug abuse and sexual/physical violence that most youth know and play today. These games have a detrimental impact on teens, making them eat more, become more aggressive, and wash away their morality. Although some may try to argue with reality, countering that its helps them socially, similar to the idea of teens taking drugs, violent video games reduce their overall health and need to be taken care

Many people still do not believe that violent video games could influence violent behavior in children. They think that video games are just for entertainment and nothing more than that. Over the past few decades there has been an increase in the use of video games as a pastime (Carnagey, Bushman, Anderson-2006).
