A reoccurring symbol in the film is the eagle, which represents Germany and its harmony under Hitler’s rule. The next scene takes place in a party Congress where many party officials speak highly of Hitler and his role in Germany. Reich President von Hindenburg is mentioned before any of the speeches about Hitler in order to honor him even after his death. Before Hindenburg’s death he was above Hitler in power. To capture foreign audiences the film mentions honor for representatives of the foreign countries who are honoring the party by taking part in the Congress. An important aspect to Hitler, which is the Army is also honored and it is voiced that they are now rightfully under the leader Hitler’s control. In the first speech it is said that
Throughout the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee , Atticus , Tom’s lawyer is trying to convince the audience (the jury) that Tom Robinson didn’t take advantage of Mayella. Atticus uses pathos and logos to appeal to the jury that Tom is not guilty. In the trial of Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell, Tom was accused of “taking advantage” of Mayella. Tom’s lawyer ,Atticus Finch uses a more logical appeal to convince the jury that Tom is innocent.
The tone helps to display Albert Speer’s feelings towards the party all throughout the biography. Later after the war Speer stated, “He had accepted Hitler’s commands and must share the responsibility for their consequences” (304). Here Speer wants to show that although he was only following orders, he shows remorse and deserves punishment. The
There is a huge difference between signs and symbols and many of these were seen in the movie Secondhand Lions. A sign is a physical thing, gibes a brief message, stands for something, and usually instructs someone about something. Examples of signs are warning signs, street signs, informations signs, open/closed signs of shops and restaurants, and many more. A symbol, on the other hand, is something that is visible but represents something invisible that is hard to put into words. It requires your interpretation and they affect how we feel. Examples of symbols are actions like hugs or hand shakes when someone passes away, objects like wedding rings to represent a couples love, a dove to express peace, and a cross to represent Christianity.
“The staging itself reminded the audience of how fascists use such panoramas: […] Hitler at the Nazi Party Conference at Nuremberg in 1934 as reevoked in the monumental Triumph of the Will” (Crowl, 53). The huge red scrolls and banners with Richard’s badge of boar, the vast crowd waving red flags, all these imageries created by Richard Loncraine echo the past “glory” of Hitler when he convinced tamed German citizens with his mouth.
In the poem, “Epitaph on a Tyrant” he uses symbolism, the tyrant being Hitler. This also adds to the fact that he used historical background in his poems. In the poem, it says, “He knew human folly like the back of his hand, And was greatly interested in armies and fleets;” showing that the Tyrant was interested in war. When researching, Auden wrote the poem during his stay in Germany in the 1930’s. At the same time, WWII was starting. The last line however, he says, “And when he cried the little children died in the streets.”, meaning when Hitler started to lose, the citizens of Germany were killed. Auden used the Tyrant to symbolise Hitler’s decisions and actions he made during the war.
Ethos, pathos, and logos are the three rhetorical strategies used in arguments to strengthen it. Atticus uses all three of the rhetorical strategies studies this year during his closing remarks to the jury, but his use of pathos really makes his remarks have a very powerful message. A quote from Atticus’s closing remarks that show his use of pathos is “Tom Robinson now sits before you, having taken the oath with the only good hand he possesses”(Lee). In his closing argument Atticus brings up the fact that Tom’s arm was injured when he was younger. He points out this fact about Tom again at the end of the trial to try to get the jury to feel bad for Tom. Pathos is all about getting people to feel pity for someone else and Atticus cleary makes the jury feel bad for Tom by
Heroes are present in movies, tv shows or games. A “hero's journey” shows a character's journey on gaining the title of a “hero”. A movie or tv show may show a character or multiple characters go through very difficult times but it the end show how they overcame adversity and is now known as a hero. In the Lion King, Simba can be seen as a hero with the challenges he endures and what he overcomes by the end. Simba has many heroic qualities his wisdom, compassion for others, moral reasoning and responsibility makes him stand out above all other characters. Simba as a young lion, was very selfish and naive to many things happening at Pride Rock . His choice to run away at a young age showed he didn't want to face his problems or accept what he thought he did. Simba begins to gain heroic qualities as he is now living his own life in a faraway jungle, he is learning how to be independent, and how to live his own life instead of being in the shadow of his dad, the king of Pride Rock.
It just reaffirms how cowardly Hitler really was because he would not face the punishment of his crimes and instead killed himself. In the movie Hitler say’s “compassion is a primal sin, compassion is for the weak (1:16:54). “I have ruthlessly suppressed domestic opposition, and brutally crushed the resistance of an alien race (1:17:47). Its quotes like these that reassure Hitler true evilness.
According to the film, Are We Still Evolving?, BBC examines if humans are indeed continuing to change or stopping. The Devon Consols used to be iron mines but changed into arsenic mines. Hodson points out that despite the alarming levels of arsenic in the soil, the earthworms managed to survive due to natural selection. The fortunate earthworms were able to survive by mutation.. The analogy applies to humans too. However, BBC questions if technology hinders the modern humans to evolve. In a museum in Oxford, the bones of the Red Lady of Paviland, was one of the oldest modern human fossils (BBC). Comparing him to a present skeleton, there seems to be no change, which leads to the idea of extreme environments impacting evolution. Furthermore,
The film presented numerous speeches by people of the Nazi party and Hitler. Hitler’s speeches depicted the idea of unity, which he directed to different groups of people - from men of the army to the youth. To the youth he states that they are the future of the nation, therefore they should not let class divisions come between them, rather they must come together under solidarity. Hitler states that the people must unite in order to regain the greatness and strength of the nation, that was lost during World War
The 4-minute clip from Triumph of the Will depicts the grandeur of the labor service sequence and presents an image of Hitler as a god-like leader, revealing the absolute submissiveness of the labor service men. A close-up shot of the back of Hitler from a low angle – from the bottom of the stage when he first shows up and takes a senior officer’s salute spruces him up to be condescending and indicates the authority of Hitler. The camera shoots the hammers in between the two rows of labor service men, which highlights the unanimous movement. The unison suggests high discipline and strict mental obedience. In the low angle medium close-up shots of Hitler’s facial expressions when the labor service men make the loyalty oath or play the martial tunes,
The film portrays the most complex view of Hitler I have ever seen. Bruno Ganz plays Hitler as a violent and seductive tyrant with brief moments of kindness, which makes his brutal nature all the more terrifying. The film, like The Lives of Others, has a very cold and neutral color pallet, which reflects the tyrannical environment that surrounds Hitler. Nearly all of the film takes place in the bunker with plain and empty cement walls, and military generals wearing dark green uniforms. In one of the many scenes that contains Hitler’s outrage, Hitler sits at his desk with the camera behind him. We see his army generals stand behind the desk with the tight cement walls pressing against them giving Hitler complete control at the head of the frame. The tight framing in the film emphasizes the power and control that Hitler had. His presence dominated the frame similar to how he dominated Germany during World War
Throughout life the word victory is used to describe the results of actions that take place in the heat of a battle. Victors are often n crowned because of achievements when they defeat the unknown. These unique individuals are seen as the Braveheart, the special ones, or the true once in a generation. Not often enough are these people called things such as brother, fathers, friends, and teacher. Though when the story of Christopher Turner is told, these words are engraved into the being of what he is all about.
Description: Kaiser Wilhelm depicted in the centre of the cartoon, with a smoking shell billowing the image of the devil’s face. Also pictured is a conical flask on top of a piece of parchment title, “The Hague Convention”. An eagle sits on the globe on the right hand side of the image with a rattle snake labelled distinctly as the “kultur” pertaining to a German civilization and culture (sometimes used in a derogatory sense to suggest elements of racism, authoritarianism, or militarism). A soldier’s skeleton also hangs in the background accompanied by a baby nailed to the wall. Leonard Raven-Hill: Often viewed a a strong advocate of British imperialism and a strong supporter of the conservative party. Encouraged men to join the amred forces
This cartoon depicts a Hitler as a fool, when he disgraces himself and falls down awkwardly, contrary to the god-like image that Leni Riefenstahl portrays in Triumph of the Will. Hitler resembles an existing god as Leni Riefenstahl imparts a majestical appearance of Hitler with low angle shootings, while the cartoon makes a small and emaciated animation figure of Hitler doing humiliating dance, which indicates Hitler is stupid and ridiculous.
