During the early American Revolution, Boston was a place where at the time colonies could not find peace. After gaining their independence from the French and Indian war, they had been put so far in debt that the British began taxing them to pay it off. The colonies were so angry about these taxes that they began to revolt against them. They were angry because these decisions were made without their consent, they didn’t have any one to speak for them in the parliament. All the revolts on taxes like the sugar act, tea act, and stamp act lead to the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. A big group of Bostonians marched to the Boston Harbor and threw 340 chests of tea into the water. As a response of this, British passed the Coercive Acts …show more content…
After the coercive acts, they demanded to have a meeting with the British. At the First Continental Congress in Pennsylvania from September 5 to October 26, 1774 representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies met to try to persuade the British to recognize their rights. This resulted in them letting the colonies to the rights of life, liberty, property, and the right to establish their own taxes within the colonies. This calmed it down a little but the British kept Sending troops to Boston making them mad.
They were determined. Determination and hope led them to win the revolution because they found a way to keep the colonies up and strong throughout the whole time. The provincial congress members had met up to discuss the colonies. “He turned from … lectures of caution and prudence to asserting and defending the most bold and undisguised principles of liberty, and defying in their very teeth the agents of the crown.” The Bostonians weren’t afraid to disobey their mother country and fight for their new country. Even though they were considered British people in America, they had never seen or gone to the other side of the Atlantic. Therefore, the Americas was there home and they were determined to fight for its independence and get away from the British.
The American Revolution was started from a spark that was ignited in Boston. It was led to be an American victory because of Boston’s endless hope of winning the war
In 1773 parliament passed the tea act in which the British pay less for tax to ship places. This made the prices of tea lower from Britain. Since Boston's tea would be more expensive nobody would buy it from them. The tea act was just another problem adding up between the colonists and britain. This made the colonists want to be independent from Britain. The colonists decided to rebel and dumb three hundred and forty two chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The act was given the name the Boston Tea Party. Most of the British thought of the Boston Tea Party as an act of terrorism. Really the Boston Tea Party was just another step to independence for the colonists.
The Boston tea party was assembled by the Sons of Liberty on Thursday December 16th 1773 around 7:00 to 10:00 PM put on in front of a crowd of over 5,000 people this was an act of defiance of the Americas to Britain to the Tea Act of 1773, as well as taxation without representation or more well known as the Townshend Act of 1767. However it was just not these two factors which lead them to do this it was also the thought of Britain charging the colonists more for tea, ink, and many other things, in order to pay for the troops fighting in the French and Indian War. So at first Britain was making everyone pay over price on tea so the colonists started smuggling tea from Dutch and other European tea makers. These things violated
December 16,1773, the Boston Tea Party, was a protest against the Tea Act of 1773. The Boston Tea Party consisted of Samuel Adams and 60 members of Sons of Liberty while disguised as Mohawk Indians boarded merchant ships and dumped 342 chests that were FULL of tea into the Harbor. They disposed of 92,000 pounds worth! All of that tea was worth $18,000. Thanks to the Tea Act, when three ships arrived with tea, colonists wanted it sent back to England, but Parliament refused. The disposal of the tea was a protest that was against the taxation, which angered Parliament. British Parliament adjusted the taxes and gave the East India Company the capability to undercut the tea that was taken into America because of the high tax. As a reaction to the
In 1773, Samuel Adams wasted a great deal of effort promoting the disagreement to the British Tea Act, and it became know as the Boston Tea Party. There was a tax on the tea, but the American colonists rejected to buy the tea until there will be no taxation on it. They chose to buy the expensive tea instead of this one. The Tea Act was passed which gave the East Indian Company to import tea to the colonies. This Act taxed the tea at the source in India rather at consumer. The colonists were not fooled by the new measures, and they didn't like the control that the government had over the dispersion of tea. So when the first shipment of tea arrived at the ports of Philadelphia and New York they were not allowed to land. In Boston, Samuel Adams was promoting opposition to the Tea Act. He published an article, and in it he calls for all Americans to protest this tax and not pay. Also, He called the East Indian Company in order to keep the peace. When the East Indian ship arrived at Boston Harbor it was not allowed to unload. Salvation Army wanted the ship to return. At least seven thousand men gathered near the Faneuil Hall to support Adams’ petition for the ship to return. Although, Governor Hutchinson refused to give permission and stood his ground. That evening a group of angry men who were attending the meeting, went to the harbor. some of them changed and in less than four hours the contents of 342 chests was thrown into the sea
There, were about 342 chests, and where split and opened and thrown in the harbor from a group of people. There was a crowed of people cheering on the dock happy its gone. The “ tea party” was quickly restaged on different cities in America and tended to polarize the sides in the widening dispute. According to john Andrews letter, the trading between England and the west Indies was stopped. “I sincerely believe they [the British Parliament] intend to carry out their threats, which are to make the town a desolate wilderness and the grass to grow in our streets.” (Andrews, John. "Smithsonian Source." Smithsonian Source. May 1774. Accessed May 17, 2016.). the protest lasted for about thirteen years. For increasing the British operation by attacking there merchant ships. They did want to have to pay so much for tea. So they got angry to why they would do that so everything was stopped and they stopped buying teas and started there own war. Under pressure from patriot groups, the consignees in Charleston new york, and Philadelphia refused to accept the tea shipment. The first shipment Dartmouth, got to Boston on November 27. And two others right after. They tried bring all the tea back with out paying the fee. But that wasn’t ever an option England gave to them. It was a law to be paid with high taxation. But no one was whiling to pay that much for tea.( History.com Staff. "Boston Tea
Have you ever wondered about how America became the country it is today? Well, without the famous American Revolution, I can assure you it would be very different. Each exciting event triggered another and soon a war broke out. Let’s start from the beginning… It all began when two global conquerors butted heads. France, the Native Americans, and Britain had conflicts over dividing land in the new colony.
This ultimately led to the Americans’ victory in the Revolutionary War. While the Americans faced many hardships in their struggle against Britain because of low confidence and insufficient supplies, the colonists
The Americans won the revolution because of allies they had such as Spain, France and Holland and also all of the motivation they had.
The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion against the British taxes. These taxes weren’t just on tea, they were taxes like the Quartering Act in which you had to allow soldiers to stay in your homes (Alchin). The colonists were tired of these unreasonable taxes and decided to stand up for it. Fearless men went out to the three ships where the tea was being imported and threw the tea overboard (The World Book Dictionary). This added up to about 342 chests of tea floating in the water (The World Book Dictionary).
Moreover, the Tea Act led directly to the Boston Tea Party. On December 16, 1773, the Colonists protested the Tea Act and the taxes it involved by dumping 342 barrels of the East India Company tea into the Boston Harbor. Approximately sixty Colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians to invade the three ships. History.com states, “Parliament responded with a series of harsh measures intended to stifle colonial resistance to British rule; two years later the war began,” (History.com). This means that the English Parliament implemented harsh acts after the Colonist’s outburst, which led to the Revolution. Because the Colonist’s decided to finally fight back against the Crown, the Tea Act was the tipping point of the revolution.
The mistreatment and violence that Great-Britain was lashing its colonists with, in order to control and curtail, any freedoms the Monarchy felt wasn't theirs to hold was quickly becoming too much to withstand. "The legislature of Great-Britain, however, stimulated by an inordinate passion for a power not only unjustifiable, but which they know to be peculiarly reprobated by the very constitution of that kingdom," (Jefferson, 1775) The First Continental Congress adjourned on September the 5th, 1774, and drafted the Olive Branch Petition to the King in the hopes his Majesty would address and
The American Revolution (1775-1783) was a war between England and the colonies which were settled earlier by the English. There were many factors and events that led to the American Revolution. The Revolution was mainly an economic rebellion that was fueled by taxation without representation following the French and Indian War. The English Parliament was more often than not considered cruel and unfair by the colonists. With conflicts over trade, taxes and government representation, the colonies were at a starting line of a revolution that would later transform into the basis of the United States of America.
When the Boston Tea Party occurred on the evening of December 16,1773, it was the culmination of many years of bad feeling between the British government and her American colonies. The controversy between the two always seemed to hinge on the taxes, which Great Britain required for the upkeep of the American colonies. Starting in 1765, the Stamp Act was intended by Parliament to provide the funds necessary to keep peace between the American settlers and the Native American population. The Stamp Act was loathed by the American colonists and later repealed by parliament.
The irregular and disorganized British rule of the American colonies in the previous years led to the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Most Americans did not originally want to separate from mother England. They wanted to stay loyal to the crown. England’s unwillingness to compromise, mismanagement of the colonies, heavy taxation of the colonists that violated their rights, the distractions of foreign affairs and politics in England and the strict trading policies that England tried to enforce together made the revolution inevitable. The British were definitely expected to win the dispute because they significantly over powered the Colonists in most areas. They had more money, weapons, people, etc. However the American’s prevailed with
The American Revolution was predicated by a number of ideas and events that, combined, led to a political and social separation of colonial possessions from the home nation and a coalescing of those former individual colonies into an independent nation.
