To someone who might not know the game of baseball or softball they might think they were otherwise the same game only one is played with a slighter bigger ball. That is not the case here. Although they are both played on similar fields, they both utilize a ball, bat, and a glove there are many small differences within each of those. The gender played by both sports is typically different, the type of ball used, pitching, the size of the fields, bats and rules. When it comes to baseball it is typically played by men, although women can and do play baseball, softball is the female equivalent. Womens being fastpitch. However, Studies have shown that the majority of slow pitch players are men. Baseball started in the 1800s specifically 1846. It wasn’t until 1943 an all women’s professional baseball league started. After 11 years it was diminished and softball began. 2004 is when professional fastpitch was started. Softball and baseball are both sports played with a ball. In all levels of baseball whether it be youth or professional adult leagues the weight and circumference of a baseball is the same. It weighs between five and five and one fourth ounces. The circumference is about nine inches. The biggest difference between baseball and softball is size. In the youth leagues of softball they use ten inch softballs.
