The Deflategate Investigation Report

Decent Essays

The book, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, is thought of as an eccentric, even fanatical, representation of Southern life. It is most memorable for its emotional overview of the convolutions of the slave system and its oppression. Harriet Beecher Stowe uses the characters of the book to represent popular ideas of her time, a time when slavery was the biggest issue that people were dealing with and how it oppressed the African Americans. She uses a major character named Tom to illustrate oppression of the slavery system. Similarly, the “Deflategate” portrays the oppression of the Patriots by the NFL and its investigators. The Deflategate investigation report has incorrectly depicted the Patriots as cheaters and labeled their quarterback falsely as a fraud. …show more content…

Stowe focuses on the story of a slave name Uncle Tom, who was sold down the river and brutalized by the planter whose name remains a synonym for cruelty and oppression, Simon Legree. Uncle Tom was a slave for the Shelby’s’, who were very nice to him and really cared about their slaves. Unfortunately, due to their financial circumstances they had to sell Uncle Tom to another man named Haley, who later sold him to a very oppressive master named Simon Legree. Tom experienced the “best” of slavery at the Shelby plantation, and suffered the “worst” at the Legree plantation. This quote illustrates the oppression by Simon Legree on Uncle Tom as he beats him up but Tom still will hold his pledge to his master and will do anything for him, even though Tom never did any wrong to deserve the beating at the first place. The cruelty and oppression by Legree ultimately led to the death of Uncle Tom. At Tom’s grave, the son of Arthur Shelby (Tom’s first owner), George Shelby makes a promise, …show more content…

Patriots were unfairly investigated and punished for the actions that they never did. The Ted Wells “Deflategate” report states, “In addition, we believe it is unlikely”, the whole report includes words such as “unlikely as used here. The words, “unlikely”, “circumstantial”, and “probably”, all do not corroborate the report and justify the accusations on the Patrios. And, ultimately the league handed a punishment to the Patriots; “$1million fine and two lost draft picks”, as stated by Schwab. To cap it off, the NFL suspended Brady for four games without pay on “probable” evidence. As stated by Schwab, “Facts. Not conjecture or an opinion. Evidence. There simply is none.” As listed by Ted Wells, “it also is our view that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities”. Over and over again, there is no concrete evidence, just a mere possibility. The flawed report is a reason why Patriots fans are standing behind Brady. As stated by a Patriots fan, “The whole thing is ridiculous. This is a vendetta against the Pats because they keep winning” (Waldstein). The “Deflategate” report is a clear oppression by the NFL of the
