I have chosen the debate of 26th September. The reason I am selecting this is because, it was the first debate and was instrumental in leading up to future debates. In a way it was an inception point of agendas and policies that would unfold with time.
The debate was deluged with policies and issues. Even though candidates probably had a plethora of issues they wanted to address, the time limit, and the debate format stood like a glorified barrier. The issue was raised on how to create jobs to minimize the unemployment rate. The other issue raised was regarding taxes. Issue was raised regarding which tax policy would turn out to be most cohesive and profitable with time. Issue about current race relation was raised along with the ways to improve it. Another issue that was raised was regarding national security. Personally, I think that issue regarding tax stood out in the debate.
Most of the opinion divergence among the candidates was based on slashing taxes. While both Trump and Clinton wanted to modify the existing tax rates as well as laws associated with it, the similarity ended there. Trump wanted to reduce taxes for the wealthy and his rhetoric was that it would be beneficial in the long run as wealthy population would have higher incentive to invest in the country. As a result, more industries and production houses would be built in the US, consequently improving economy as well as creating new jobs. On the other hand, Clinton vehemently opposed this policy. She was
While both sides did exceedingly well, the con side did just slightly better and therefore won the debate. The pro side did do a better job creating thoughtful responses and quoting from sources, but the con side did a few other things better. The con side had the better opening
in Chicago, so the debates were held in Chicago. Leading up to the debate both candidates were rallying supporters and discussing many issues. The most important issue was whether Illinois
Trump was basically telling the people what they wanted to hear and I thought he was doing pretty good. On the other hand he also wasnt answering the questions the way they needed to be answered. In the debate Hilary talks about how we should start small companies in to increase the work for everyone. While Trump is trying to lower everything, Hilary wants people to have a fair job and wants the wealthy to help out the people by donating clothes or anything else to get involved. Trump on the other hand, wants the companies to stop moving around to different states just stay in one location. Throughtout this debate, I believe Trump is accusing Hilary for Americas debt and how he is basically saying its increased by 2 because of President Barack Obama. However, Hilary is not pointing any fingers at
Watching the Republican GOP debates was very interesting, seeing how they are unique candidates. I chose to watch the Republican debates because I am not familiar with the candidates as well as I should be. The March 3rd and the March 10th debates enlightened me to their leadership styles, their plan and their character in general.
The first presidential debate was held in Hempstead, New York on Monday of September 26. The two presidential candidates that clashed that night was Republican nominee Donald J. Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. This night was meant to gain an advantage on your opponent in the polls. The debate focused on three main points of discussion; America’s Direction, Achieving Prosperity, and Securing America.
Thesis - “If race lives on today, it can do so only because we continue to create and recreate it in our social life, continue to verify it, and thus continue to need a social vocabulary that will allow us to make sense, not of what our ancestors did then, but of what we ourselves choose to do now.”
In the beginning of the debate, both Trump and Clinton had a fierce attitude. The candidates had brought up many past events. They debated against each other`s plans to create a better country. One of the main
When watching a TED talk you automatically know your going to leave with some new profound thought or have your ways of thinking changed slightly. The primes behind TED talks is “Ideas worth spreading” right there in their mission statement is what persuasive speech is. In Ms. Alexander’s TED talk she did just that, she spread the idea to her audience of what the future of race in America will look like if we don’t seek to change the social, economical, and political policies that almost certainly put people in america as legal second class citizens.
I believe race is so central to how we organize social life in many societies because it has been the defining factor that breaks humans apart from one another just based off of something as simple as sight. It is the easiest way to classify individuals aside from gender or nationality. Race has also become something that individuals have personally adopted, and I believe many people are more comfortable being around those that share the same characteristics as themselves.
Racial oppression and racism have been an issue seen throughout the history of the United States. During the 60’s the era of the Civil Rights movement Americans saw advances in racial equality. This seems to have created a notion throughout the United States that racism was not an issue for many years. Yet racism still seems to be engrained in American society, it is just hard to realize when it is happening. Recently racial controversies surrounding the United states Justice System have been making the news headlines. What Americas are seeing is institutional inequalities that are creating racial conflict. Institutional inequalities have lead to racial oppression do to the power structure in the United States. Critical Race Theory provides an explanation showing that race is imbedded in American society today; can the theory explain why racial inequalities between the United States Justice System and citizens of different colors seems to be a reoccurring cycle.
The candidates we had to choose from had their pros and cons, like every president in history has but this one was little more difficult to choose between the two. For instance Trump wants to deport illegal immigrants, he has a strong connection with Russia which could improve our allies, he is against abortions, Trump is more conservative on domestic issues than Hillary Clinton. On the other hand, Hillary strongly agreed with abortion, she wants to expand Obamacare, she is certainly against the second amendment; the right to bare arms, she wants to raise the tax on rich people. It was hard to decide and vote on a candidate as a result of this. I didn't like Hillary Clinton considering she has a large number of bad things said about her
What topics are labeled important enough to be talked about during presidential debates? Topics such as terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare all managed to be the center of attention during all debates. What topics were almost entirely ignored? Topics such as gun policy; social issues like LGBT rights and abortion; and the environment and climate change were put to the side to instead talk about Hillary Clinton’s email scandal or the sexual assault charges brought up against Donald Trump. While terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare are all very important topics, but one topic that was ignored and should have been at the forefront of the debate was climate change.
Another four years another presidential debate. Before I go on to the current debates let me state a few facts about past ones. The Lincoln and Douglas debate was in important because it started Lincoln presidential career. The Debates lasted from August 21 -- October 15. There where seven of them, with two days to two weeks in between. Each debate lasted three hours; first candidate spoke for one hour; the second for one and a half hours; the first replying for a half hour. Candidates alternated going first. The topics involved where primarily slavery and the Union. Other important debates were the '48 and '57. They were the only debates before 1960; there were no presidential debates between 1960 and 1976. In
2. I most likely would’ve watched the debate regardless, but watching the debate in an in-person audience altered my perspective in a way that wouldn’t have happened if I was sitting on my couch with friends. First off, I went to the viewing alone so instead of sitting and chattering throughout the debate. I was in sense more focused on the diction the candidates where using which led to me focusing on certain rhetorical devices we have previously discussed in class. One of the devices that were so apparent to me was the device of ethos, this debate was constantly using situated ethos and the post-humanist take on ethos throughout. The
I took the time today to read the article titled “What is Race” by Victor M. Fernandez, RN, BSN and found myself agreeably intrigued and in admiration of his thoughts regarding race. Victor touched on an extremely insightful and significant topic; one that most people have sturdy opinions about. Race – what is it? What does this mean to you? What does it mean to our upcoming careers in the nursing field? I trust that how we characterize and assess our awareness of race is due exclusively to how we were raised. I do not mean merely what we were taught from our family or culture about race, but to a certain extent how we have lived it, and how it has lived around us. “Race is a modern idea. Ancient societies, like the Greeks, did not divide
