--------------------------------------JUDGEMENT FRAMEWORK----------------------------------------------
Poverty is a complex issue that has always been around, but has been a growing concern over time. Holding a debate on the issue of poverty, is one that can easily go awry due to it 's complexity and emotional aspects. In order to evaluate the debate, both teams need to fully understand the proposal and clearly articulate their stance.
The debate teams need to be able to clearly explain their position, refute the opponent 's argument, provide solutions, provide a stimulating counter examination, and effectively answer questions from the judges. Other logistical aspects of the debate that will be judged on is the ability to efficiently use time and allocate it between team members, as well as refraining from interrupting other debates and keeping an appropriate volume and demeanor.
There are various general questions that will be utilized in my evaluation of the debate. Did the teams address what poverty is, how people become poor and remain poor, explain why it 's the individual or society 's fault, why we haven 't been able to dramatically keep poverty low, why current efforts are not working, and what new solutions should be utilized?
I expect both teams to utilize support for their arguments from outside sources and from the readings. My general expectations for the arguments by both teams is to not only clearly explain their proposed arguments, but to also
By spending more time to research, I would be able to counter the Opposition’s arguments effectively. By elaborating on each argument, I would be able to further support my points with evidence. By using the ARE method to justify, the outlook for my part of the debate would look and sound more professional. Overall, there were several minor mistakes that could be easily fixed when reviewing the debate in my mind.
In general, the debate was not unlike any other presidential debate. The candidates did their best to avoid answering questions that made them look bad by responding with an answer to a different question. When given a chance to respond, the opponent would present their own argument, which always sounded like a rebuttal but never really addressed their opponent. Throughout
I will start off by giving a brief definition on what poverty is, the consequences of it, and then I will outline and describe the contributing
Relate to the Audience: I understand that everyone has their opinion and that each opinion means something, but just sit back and take in a little more information about this debate.
Poverty has long been a topic of importance for people. They have always sought a way to somehow eliminate poverty from society. In the mid 20th century, politicians waged a so called “war on poverty”. This led to the eventual creation of the welfare system which assisted those living in poverty
However, my reaction to this article was stunning. Yes, we have anti-poverty policies in place, but how effective are they? However, I feel we need to come together as a society and deal with this issue. We need to advocate for changes in current policies, and implement new ones, which will address poverty. Historically, we have to analyze how policy experts tackled this issue in the past, and look for gaps that need fixing. Everyone is unique and different in many ways, and deserve fair treatment. Everyone should have a chance at equal opportunity, and as a society, we need to advocate for change, so we can dismiss this war of
The topic of poverty is America has been both a huge focus and a sore subject for many. There are differing opinions on how to handle our growing population of people below the poverty line, with some saying the solution is the good old “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” rhetoric to others saying impoverished people have children and refuse to work just to get bigger checks from their states.
I knew that poverty in America was a real big issue but to here that 1 in 4 children in America live in poverty is heartbreaking. I am a single parent of two, a 4 year old and a 14 year old. I know firsthand how hard things can be. Working as an Instructional Aide I fall below the 23,000.00 a year threshold and some may say I live below the poverty line. I don’t live like poor nor do my children go without anything that they need. I have an A.A. degree and working on my B.A. and I had my house built from the ground up. I was once of welfare and I know how easy it is to come close to falling below the line. Nothing in this video surprised me because I have experienced a lot of the same experiences these people in this video have. I was

This paper will give a clear examination of the problem of poverty. It will first show how big poverty is and how it progressed in America. Moreover, how it affects the people in America and if not dealt with can bring America into a bad predicament. Next this paper will present three possible policies that can be solutions to poverty or at least help it: adjusting the minimum wage, education opportunities for all, and last an interagency working group on reducing poverty. This paper will first explain each policy solution. Then it will analyze the pros and cons, and possible strength and weakness of each solution. Then lastly, it will present an opinion on the problem of poverty.
There are three main arguments believed to be the explanations for the existence and persistence of poverty. The first account is the Dependency-Based Explanation that puts the blame of poverty to the individual or to their cultural background. The Exclusion-Based Explanation and Structural-Based Explanation are the next two which establishes the society that condemns people to poverty.
Many describe poverty as an economic deprivation, or lack of income. However, this alone does not incorporate the different social, cultural and political aspects of this unfortunate reality. Poverty is not only a deprivation of economic or material resources but a violation of human dignity. The general scarcity, lack, or the state of one without a specific amount of material possessions or money. It is a versatile concept that may be defined as either absolute or relative. Time and again, poverty is a call to action, for the poor and the wealthy alike, it is a call to change the world so that many more may have enough to eat, adequate shelter, access to education and health, protection from violence, and a voice in what happens in their communities.
Poverty has been evident since The Great Depression in the 1930’s. Since then, there has been an attempt to lower poverty level, though only a 2.5% decrease has been seen since 1965. It is argued that we do not need another war on poverty since nothing has seemed to help, but this is an issue that affects everyone. As Mark Bittman stated in his article “Why We’re Fasting” “This is a moral issue; the budget is a moral document.” Poverty can be improved if more emphasis is added to helping individuals or families out of poverty, instead of assisting them through their lives, by improving existing laws or implementing new laws centering around the idea of a fixed income.
The social issue that I chose for my action paper is Poverty. Poverty is an issue that interests me not only because it affects so many people in the world every single day, but also because as a member of the lower class it affects me as well. Poverty is defined as being “the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support” (CAPAI). Poverty is one of the biggest issues in the world, affecting billions of people every day. It became a social problem many, many years ago, dating back to before the 1800’s. It is now 2014 and we are still in the midst of a poverty crisis. What appalls me the most is that the United States is one of the wealthiest countries in the world yet we still have the widest gap between the rich and the poor, with the middle class slowly disappearing (Eitzen, 208). This shows that this is a much bigger issue than it is being treated as and it needs a lot more attention than it is receiving.
Poverty is a massive issue today, it surrounds all of life’s experiences, and it impacts on the future for people everywhere, and on health everywhere in society. Poverty is not just related to unemployment or
