The Culture of the Philippines The Republic of the Philippines was named to honor King Philip the second of Spain in 1543. The purpose of this paper is to have a complete understanding of the different type culture from every country which is beneficial in knowing how much we all share or have in common as far as “race, national origin, gender, class, or religion.” (Axner) When military leaders examine the culture of the country they are in, there are six major characteristics that they must take into consideration: 1) one must comprehend the meaning of culture; 2) identify what the five characteristics are that define a culture; 3) describing the common culture characteristic of a region of the world; 4) the country’s physical geography; 5) any previous involvements in military conflicts; and 6). All six of these characteristics play an important role in determining what the norms are and why the people in that specific region are the way they are. The focus of this paper will center on the cultural understanding and awareness of the country known as the Philippines. When looking for a definite answer as to the meaning of culture, there are a large number of definitions that follow it. Culture is defined as “a way of life of a group of people; the beliefs behaviors, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.” (University) These factors
