The institution of nursing has been rapidly changing in the past decades. The responsibilities of nurses have evolved to include the cultural aspects of the clients, along with the empirical and theoretical knowledge. Implementing the cultural aspects of patients values, beliefs, and practices in their care can overcome challenges to foster better health outcomes. Thus leading to greater compliance and continuity of care. When aspects of the patient 's cultural values are not employed in the patient 's care this can negatively impact the patient’s views. The patients may see their care as unworthy and develop mistrust in the healthcare system . Working as a nurse in my earlier years, I have experienced obstacles that have affected the care that I had provided to many of my patients . I vividly remember a nurse-client encounter I had about eight years ago. In this situation I regret to say that I did not provide care rendered from a cultural perspective. In retrospect, I realized the importance of the cultural aspect of the patient and how it impacts the care provided. It was a hot summer evening in July around 7 pm, I was the triage nurse in an Emergency Room in the Bronx. Mr.S rushed to the triage door in a panic, knocking profusely with six family memebers accompany him. Mr. S was a medium built, fifty-five years old man from Mexico.
