singer of this song and Abigail both share the same type of jealousy due to love.
March of the Witch Hunters
This song is about the citizens of the Emerald City accusing a character of being a witch. They blame all of their problems on her, even though she did nothing wrong. This character is not actually a witch, but she is falsely accused by the other characters who eventually set out to kill her. In The Crucible, there were many accusations towards the people of Salem of being a witch or wizard. None of them were true because witches and wizards are not real and therefore, all the accused people, were innocent. They share the same relationship as the victim of this song.
I will always love you
This song is about how the singer will always love another character no matter what they put them through. In The Crucible, Abigail displays this same trait when she protects her husband John Proctor by lying to the court on his behalf even though she knows he has cheated on her in the past.
Notes
This song is about one man who writes letters to the opera expressing his views on how an opera should be run. The entire opera disagrees with him and as a result, he seems like the bad guy. In The Crucible, John Proctor opposes the church’s belief of the existence of witches and wizards, but because more people sided with the church, John Proctor looked like the bad guy and that costed him his life.
Who am I?
This song is about a man (Jean Valjean AKA Prisoner 24601) who confesses to the
Despite Abigail pretending she’s angry at Elizabeth Proctor for tarnishing her reputation in the town. She is more envious of Elizabeth and her marriage to John Proctor. Here she resorts to paltry name-calling in order to cast suspicion in John’s
Abigail is motivated by boredom, need of attention and obsession with John Proctor. Abigail says, “I know you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near.” (Miller, p.14/15).
Abigail represents jealousy and lust. In the beginning of the play the audience learns that her and Proctor had an affair. Abigail lusts for John Proctor in Act one. She yearns, “I have a sense for heat, John, and yours has drawn me to my window” (23). She is constantly thinking, talking and dreaming about John Proctor. She is drawn to him. She even blurts out angrily after Proctor shuts her down, “I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near. Or did I dream that?” (22). She taunts and compliments him, trying her best to get him to love her again. Abigail is jealous that Proctor likes his wife, Elizabeth, better than her. The audience learns that Elizabeth fires Abigail, who at the time
The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller. The people were faced with severe test or trials in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 because of actuation of witchcrafts. Arthur Miller reveals how it is better to die with honor rather than lie to live in the characters Rebecca Nurse , Giles Corey and John Proctor.
In the Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, is both an allegory and tragedy where the Puritan society of Salem is attacked with the agitation of witchcraft. It all started with five young girls of the Salem society caught dancing naked around a bonfire. This practice is viewed upon by the Puritans as the task of the devil. In the beginning of the play, there was controversy about ownership of land between some of the villagers. Later in the story, people fear for their own safety and begin pointing fingers and accusing their neighbors of witchcraft in order to escape being hanged. This caused the society to get more and more separated as time went on. This emphasizes the idea of how fear and suspicion can destroy a society due to accusations, roundups, and forced confessions. Miller captures the evil of paranoia and fear in his play through emotions by letting them shine through his characters to make the audience feel the tension, the angst and the desperation throughout the play.
Another huge character flaw within Abigail is the fact she is jealous of Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife. Abigail quotes, “I cannot dream but I wake and walk about the house as though I’d find you coming through the door.” Abigail is showing a little bit of lust within this sentence but also jealousy. The reason why she is jealous in this sentence is the fact that she wants what Elizabeth has, to wake up and see
Through beautiful and edgy wordings, the play by Arthur Miller tells a story about witchcraft, which metaphorically discusses the political issue during that time. Set in 1692, this is at the time when the Puritans are most scared and hated the witchcraft. According to Abigail, one of the girls that call out people, she sees “Sarah Good with the Devil,” and worse; she continues to lie that she sees “Goody Osburn with the Devil” (Miller 48). Without evidence, the accusation still goes on, and it blinds the judges with their flawless dishonesty. Nonetheless, many innocent people have become the victims of these evil lies, for the girls to have the power in their hands. Indeed, The Crucible is metaphorically about
Arthur Miller states "Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets." The quote of this meaning is that people are falsely accused, but they may be innocent. The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a play based upon events that occurred in Salem circa 1690s. Through Abigail Williams, Miller was trying to state the injustice in Salem because she targeted the innocent people, leading to their death. Many of the conflicts that occurred in the play were caused by Abigail Williams. Abigail's jealousy of Elizabeth Proctor was triggered by Elizabeth's husband John Proctor. Abigail was a hypocrite because she used the name of the Lord for her own interests. She lied in order to save herself by denying her involvement in witchcraft. The character selected is Abigail Williams because of her three main character flaws which are jealousy, hypocrisy, and mendacity.
In the play of the crucible by Arthur Miller was about the witch trial in salem, massachute. A teenage girl named Abigail fell in love with a married guy named John Proctor. Abigail is doing everything to win John Proctor heart and be john proctor wife. Everything went wrong and she started to lie by accusing innocent people for being witches. Innocent people are getting hang up because of Abigail and her friends lies. The author's purpose of this play is to inform the audience about what happened during salem witch trials.
A famous quote from Kellie Lynn, states that, “ Betrayal… Doesn’t only break your heart but, also darkens your soul. You’ll never forget the pain like a fog that forever lingers in the depths of your mind”. In a play that Arthur Miller wrote and called, The Crucible there is pandemonium reeking in Salem. A young girl, Abigail Williams whom was a servant of John and Elizabeth Proctor, but get thrown out is found in the woods with other girls dancing around a pot. This mysterious action concerns some people. The next morning, a few girls, don’t wake. This induces mayhem, a reverend is called, and the girls start accusing other ladies of witchery and having deals with the devil. Among the girls that were dancing in the forest there is one called Mary Warren, she is the servant that replaces Abigail for the Proctors. She later joins the court and tries to determine right and wrong. Using Abigail Williams and MAry Warren, Arthur Miller illustrates the lesson of betrayal and conveys the theme that betrayal leads to broken relationships.
While The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is only a four act play, it still resembles the format of a five act play. The five-act structure evolved from a three-act structure, which was made famous by Roman Aelius Donatus. Donatus came up with three types of plays: Protasis, Epitasis, and Catastrophe. The five-act structure helped to expand the three act structure, mainly made famous by Shakespeare through his many tragedies. Even though The Crucible contains only four acts, it still has the common composition of a five act play: an exposition, followed by the rising action, the climax, the falling action, closing with the denouement.
Arthur Miller has created John Proctor the protagonist of The Crucible to be a 30 year old farmer in Salem, Massachusetts, powerful of body, even-tempered and not easily led. John speaks his mind when he recognizes injustice. He is highly respected, even feared, by some in Salem. His name is synonymous with honour and integrity. He takes pleasure in exposing hypocrisy and is respected for it. However John is a sinner, a sinner not only against the moral fashion of the time but against his own vision of decent conduct, he has come to regard himself as a kind of fraud. After admitting to lechery, John is accused of witchcraft, on this charge he is condemned.
of them can attain being imprisoned and even when they do battle to determine who wins Emily’s hand that is ultimately left to fate as the gods intervene when Arcite initially wins the bout. They make no attempt, as romantic heroes, to romance the object of their affection. Furthermore, despite the Knight’s tale being a romance, its center is more on the competition between the two men as opposed to the relationship Emily would have with one of them. Chaucer devotes two pages to their argument on who deserves Emily more, Arcite who loves towards her is a “love as to a creature” or Palamon whose love Arcite mocks as an “affeccioun of hoolynesse ”. It is this lack of agency and the different affections that Chaucer subverts in the Miller’s
Abigail is a highly jealous character, concentrating her jealousy on Elizabeth Proctor. This jealousy is driven by lust and her desire for John Proctor. Abigail served as a servant in the Proctor household and after an affair with her husband John, Elizabeth fired her. She still resents Elizabeth for this as she is still in love with John. She clearly says to John, "You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!" Abigail is still in love with John and she assumes the converse. Her love for John only causes her resentment for Elizabeth to strengthen. She hates John Proctor's wife and in her conniving ways she attempts to inspire the same views of Elizabeth in John's mind. Saying things to him such as, "She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me, She is a cold, sniveling woman." Abigail fabricates stories in attempt to steel John from Elizabeth. She is a manipulative liar that does and says as she pleases in order to get what she wants.
This one similarity, their love for John Proctor, shows Abigail’s calculating, self-serving nature while highlighting Elizabeth’s gentle nature. In conclusion, Elizabeth and Abigail are similar in their love for John Proctor, however, Elizabeth differs through her tendency to try to please everyone and keep her own emotions bottled up, while Abigail believes the world revolves around her and works to make things go her own
