Traditionally yarn is intended for practicality with a specific function. The Crochet Wisteria Project is a knit and crochet textile project that is community driven and will showcase the strength, individuality and diversity of the community. Each piece that is crocheted and knitted by the participants will be unique to the creator. When assembled, it will be a stunning, kaleidoscope of color and energy that corresponds to the design of the interior but refers to the exterior.
My design features a crocheted and knitted wisteria tree that is 24” wide at the base and rises 11' to the ceiling. The base of the sculpture will be “yarn-bombed” with a colorful display of knitted and crocheted yarn. The top of the sculpture spans 10’ x 8 ‘ and features
TorusMacroCopula is a sculpture created by, Ernesto Neto. This sculpture is a representation of a large scale environment sculpture. An environment sculpture is a sculpture that you can physically enter into or explore either indoors or in a contained space. This sculpture consists of large plastic balls in netting hung from the ceiling. Tourists are able to enter inside of the netting and physically walk across the gigantic plastic balls. This artwork would be classified as an assemblage because it was the process of brining individual pieces together to form a larger whole. The individual objects that were assembled together would be the large plastic balls and the netting.
Fischer teamed up with a local Kansas City-based firm A. Zahner Company together they created and brought to life Fischer’s inspiration. The largest of the sculptures is 40 feet tall and 35 feet wide and weighing in at 24,000 pounds. In order to get the sculptures on top of the four 300 foot pylons, a special helicopter was needed. A Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane which is designed to lift heavy objects was used to lower the sculptures down.
The piece I chose to write about is called Anti-Mass by Cornelia Parker who originated from London, created this piece in 2005. She was also raised Catholic which really gives you a sense of this sculpture. It is located at the de Young. What really made me chose this piece is because of how massive it was when I walked up to it. It seemed so intense when I looked at it and at the same time it looked so surreal. Now with this piece, you would need to walk around it at least twice to really feel how it is huge when it comes to the size, its hanging from the ceiling and continues till its only a few inches off the ground. Walking around it is when you really understand the size since its three-dimensional.
The name of my project is “The Peace Arch”. I named my project this because my branches form an arch and it looks very simple and peaceful. I chose the bowl because I wanted a shallow bowl that didn't take any attention away from my flowers and leaves. I chose to fill my bowl with rocks instead of Styrofoam because I thought it would look earthy and natural. I chose my flowers because they were different shades of pink and they came with different sizes and length of branches. I also chose my flowers because they look like cherry blossoms. My project represents peace and love. The rocks and the simpleness of the project represents peace and the pink flowers represent the love. I placed my branches and my flowers on opposite sides of my bowl
The sculpture will stand 14-feet tall and become a permanent display at the Rockwell Museum in Corning. It will also be on view as part of an upcoming exhibition ‘Western Door’, which opens May 5, 2017. Artist Marie Watt will take blankets, donated by the community, and the personal stories behind them, to create a sculpture. "Blankets are such an important object, they carry such meaning to us personally and culturally and that really seems to cut across race, culture, ethnicity and unites us all," explains Rockwell Museum Curator
Created to help grow recognition of the Museum, the project of Modern Sculpture Initiative collected identifiable sculptures in the Kansas City Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum (Paine 15). This park holds pieces from Henry Moore and the duo Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen. As a gift to retired Martin Friedman, who was the advisor of the Modern Sculpture Initiative and director of the Walker, he got to commission a work by the artist of his choosing (Roxy Paine’s), 2010). With help from the Hall Family Foundation, a dendroid installation called Ferment by Roxy Paine was the newest addition in 2011 (Paine 17). Since Paine has 24 dendroid sculptures spread across North America, it is an honor to have one that gave excitement and quality to the park (Roxy Paine’s, 2010). Curator Jan Schall expressed, “Roxy Paine is one of the most important young sculptors today. Ferment will be the reigning monarch on that hillside. It is an outstanding addition to the collection that will enlighten, perplex and delight everyone who sees it. (“Roxy Paine’s”, 2010)” When a person goes to the Nelson-Atkins Museum, they may see a tall, shiny tree in the park. However, this installation
Humans have created technology to benefit our lives. Technology helps our lives by accomplishing tasks that are difficult without it. Occasionally, devices make problems for us. In Flowers for Algernon Charlie had an operation to become smart but only temporarily. He learned the truth of certain parts of his life which gave him pained him more than helping him. In The Veldt technology was misused and killed the parents of the Hadley family. The Sea Devil had difficulties when the man caught the wrong fish. His net becomes an issue because the fish pulls him into the lake nearly drowning him while being attached to his hand. In the story by Stuart Mclean, Dave is unable to send Christmas cards to friends as a result of being incapable of taking the letters out of a mail box.
I could not believe how detailed a person could make a mural like that out of a tree. It was truly amazing. I can not imagine the time and dedication that person put into it. I am sure they are proud of where it is being displayed.
The tradition artwork we may see is like painting, photographing, drawing or printing. This artist makes different view point about art, he creates a showroom for trees and drawing the structure about it, it does makes people thinking more about the nature. The nature is like big thing, it can means many, such as environment, trees, forest, or the animal that around. When the artist create the artwork, he is trying to display the real nature from the artwork he created. For example like, on the beginning part of episode, we can see that Mark Dion borrowed rats from biology lab and paint their body into all black color and hang it in the tree, it is kind of performance art. He did draft on how it looks like, and really practice it to make it become real.
Our world is full of so many grandiose monuments, eye-catching sculptures, and stunning statues, each having an individual story to tell. Thousands of them have been created however, only a small number of them are actually extraordinary and picture-worthy. This paper will compare and contrast two of those picture-worthy sculptures. Furthermore, I will examine the aspects of each of these sculptures. I will compare and contrast what each of them represents, the differences in texture, their size and their tone.
In the early 1900s after the assassination of Austria-Hungary's Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Serbia ran to its ally Russia, and Austria-Hungary ran to its ally Germany. Germany then struck first declaring war on Russia and France, Britain hesitated to join the chaos but was forced to after German forces slashed into innocent Belgium to get at France, therefore London declared war on Germany. Later Turkey joined Germany and Austria Hungary to form the Central Powers and Italy as well as Japan teamed up with Britain, France, and Russia to form the Allies. President WIlson tried his best to remain neutral and away from the war, however as both sides tried to tempt the US to join them and each side jeopardized
My earlier prescription for the blood glucose test Strips/lancet went to local CVS pharmacy at Bernardo center drive. I have been using a mail order pharmacy - CVS Care Mark as they provide 90 day supplies and medicine at lower rate. Since a technical problem with the Follow My Health preferred pharmacy does not have option to input the mail order pharmacy address/phone/fax number, that has created more problem of filling prescriptions.
The Long Awaited by Patricia Piccinini is a sculpture made of silicone, fibreglass, human hair, plywood, leather and clothing that was crafted in 2008; (92 x 152 x 80cm).
The art piece that I chose to critique is the sculpture of a figure kneeling down and getting shocked. It is located on campus near the Morris University Center(muc). When I first saw this sculpture it caught my attention immediately, because of how gruesome the piece was. I feel like I don’t have a good understanding of what the sculpture represents, but it seems like it would raise plenty of controversy, due to its erotic features. It seems like the artist was venting his emotions when he created his idea. The sculpture is fairly large in size, which makes it noticeable, among the other art pieces on campus. The sculpture media consist of wood and concrete, and metal mostly. The individual is keeling down toward the west and is supported
Medicinal marijuana is one of many ethical issues that are encountered in the medical field. According to National Institutes of Health Medicinal marijuana is a “cannabis plant that contains the mind-altering chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabino (THC) and other similar compounds such as cannabidiol (CBD). THC and CBD are the two most important ingredients in medical marijuana. Both THC and CBD have synergistic effects, but THC has the psychoactive compounds which alters the mind” (NIH, 2017). Now legal in 29 states, it is being used for medical purposes such as alleviate pain, reduce seizures, and appetite stimulation. There are controversies regarding the effects of using this drug such as hallucination, intoxication, or dependence. Although there are benefits for its medical use, there are also risks involved just like in any drug. The decision is up to the individual regarding its uses.
