In “The Creative Spirit”, the author says that “over-control” is one of the main creativity killers. According to Dr. Amabile’s, “telling kids exactly how to do things leaves children feeling that any originality is a mistake and any exploration a waste of time” is a good point; however, I disagree with it. In my opinion, most kids are likely hyperactive so that they should have their parents' surveillance. For example, learning things from their parents first; young toddlers , their parents sometimes educate how to greet people, brief of mindset, unaware of hazardous items, even he or she does not know what manners are good. Some research shows that parents should teach children when stage age of children is like a piece of blank paper. In
I just recently had the opportunity to read the magazine article from The Atlantic titled “The Overprotected Kid” by Hanna Rosin. This article constantly critiques and bashes society along with the parenting styles of today. I agree with Rosin that parents are too protective over their children because parents today are holding back their children and are preventing them from many experiences. Fortunately, my parents were not part of this trend, allowing me to explore and learn from my own experiences and mistakes. Playgrounds are becoming to a point that is almost too safe and children are taking less risks. Playgrounds and parents are not allowing kids to learn on their own and experience life while taking risks.
A lot of people understand as parents “Failure is the way to success”, and yet parents try to protect their children from danger and failure by restraining their freedom. The article Free the children written by Nancy Gibbs advises parents to love yet left alone so they can try a new skill. Efforts to guide and guard can sometimes be a barrier for their children to experience the mistake and learn from it. In my opinion, this article is definitely true because one can correct their mistake easier through experiencing. One can also understand the reason of a failure from a real situation. In addition, this prevents one from making the same mistake over and over again.
In the beginning of the article, the author illustrates the reasons why a child easy to loose his creativity and imagination when he grows up. She argues that the extract criteria and inflexible grading standard are main elements that can make children disappointed about their art; this not only repress their creativity but also can cause them to stop using the precious talented ability they have.
Children who have had every decision made for them do not acquire the ability to problem solve. When life presents challenges, they are unable to solve them on their own. Additionally, the children are not motivated to make things happen for himself or herself when parents do everything for their children, assisting too much with homework, projects,
Playwrights have the tendency to be written from the author own experiences for several reasons. This way of writing is really effective in order to convey a message to the audience. Watching a story unfold will have much more of an impact if it is believable. Otherwise without this the whole message is distorted and not going to be as strong as it could have been. These writers then rely on their life experiences in order to come up with play story lines. This makes for a dramatic and really sends a message to the viewers. It can actually in some cases have a big impact on someone’s life and make them change something about themselves. I can understand why Stephanie Arnold would bring up this topic in her book The Creative Spirit. Not only
Are we underestimating the importance of creativity? Many times children are not encouraged at home to be creative, either because their parents restrict their ideas, fill their decisions with pessimism, or simply do not pay attention to this matter. However, creativity is a skill that makes the human being flexible and resourceful as well as helping them see problems differently and identify solutions more easily. Many times education will directly contradict creativity. It destroys the innovation of ideas, and stifles the imagination, while claiming it is “teaching.” Sometimes entering a classroom becomes the closest thing to entering a time machine since our teaching methods differ very little from those of ancient Rome over 2000 years ago. In Ted Talk “How Schools Kills Creativity” by Ken Robinson and the article “Let Teenagers Try Adulthood” by Leon Botstein, two different opinions about the current educational system are presented. While Robinson believes that the schooling system should work to promote creativity, Botstein says that the concept of a high and middle school is useless and should be abolished. However they both agree on reform. As a parent, I have always been concerned about my daughters’ education, and have always believed, like Robinson and Botstein, that our educational system needs a change.
You are one of the most influential women in modern day society and you continue to fight for women’s education throughout the world. It is so inspiring that even as a young girl you always stood up for what you believed in despite the judgement you faced as the Taliban began to takeover your village. I truly admire the bravery you had the day your life changed forever after the Taliban stormed onto your school bus and shot you. You are hope for women stuck in stagnant societies to get the education they deserve. women, despite how privileged they may be, to recognize the part they can take aiding your movement.
My parents taught me which behaviors were appropriate and inappropriate and they guided me towards those behaviors, but they gave me room to explore, learn, and make some of my own decisions. When my parents allowed me to pick out the toy or activity I wanted to play with, I would often choose to play with something very messy like paint, shaving cream, or even mud. Instead of punishing me for making a mess, they encouraged me to be creative and have fun. My parent’s autonomy granting behavior allowed me to use my developing motor and cognitive abilities to explore my environment and make my own decisions while gaining a level of self-control (Erikson, E.H, 1950). This autonomy granting behavior was also beneficial during my early childhood years to promote my decision making and independency. As I was developing new skills and experiencing challenges, my parents supported and guided me in the appropriate direction, but they were also sensitive and understanding instead of excessively controlling. Studies show that it is important for parents to be sensitive and nurturing instead of exclusively focusing on rules and structures (Clarke and Dawson, 1998). This behavior allowed me to explore, learn, and develop a healthy sense of autonomy while also behaving and adjusting
But it is depending on children age and parent’s skill. Significant to parents how to control their negatives behavior for example making strengthen relationship between children and parent or parent’s mental health being great.
1. What types of decisions must Chad Thomas make daily for his company’s operations to run effectively? Over the long run?
It can influence the children's ideas, prevent the children from discovering and pursuing their goals and desires in life, and hold them back from their true potential. In many instances, parents influence their children’s ideas and unintentionally
Children must be allowed to grow and mature at their own natural pace. The old saying ‘kids must be kids’ is based on this basic need. Dr. Sigel of the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey says “Denying, or at least not recognizing, the child’s active outreaching curiosity has negative consequences.” (ProQuest, New York Times, pg. 2). When hothousing a child occurs parents run the risk of the children having what is known as achievement anxiety. This is when a child “come(s) to believe they are valued for what they memorize or produce or achieve”. (ProQuest, New York Times, pg. 2). It appears that there is more evidence that supports the belief that ‘mother knows best’. Meaning, children belong in the care of their mothers, at home, where they can be allowed to play, daydream, and explore their environments.
In our Creative Expressions in Early Childhood course, taught by the lovely Mrs. Muth, requires us to do an internship along with this course where we are required to get 40 observation hours in. This internship required us to visit a daycare or TARC-early intervention centers that have children that are at birth-three years of age to meet the requirements of this internship. Throughout this summer, the experience that is gained throughout this internship should be the way that this age certain age group is developed. Throughout this internship so far, I have gained two strengths and weaknesses through this experience.
The term creativity is used for the purpose of describing the ability that is concerned with the process of creating something new or valuable. This ability allows a person to surpass the rules, practices, methods, forms or similar kind of activities that the traditional society may be performing at that time. Creativity is one of the most important things that have allowed the people of the society to move forward and urge for development. All the development that has been made in various aspects of human life can be directly connected with the creativity. All the industry leaders of the world have secured this place because of the level of creativity and innovation that they showed. They used this creativity for creating something new that has allowed them to develop completely new methods for this purpose.
But as soon as children start feeling that their parents care too much, they try to get back at them and do just what their parents don't want them to do. On the other hand kids who face lack of freedom may end up turning into introverts afraid to speak to other people or not as social (which is not a bad thing though).
