Teddy Roosevelt is most known for his progressive policies he enacted as president of the United States. He was a strong and determined leader that set the stones for the United States to become a superpower. He did this through his many government reforms. He brought environmental issues into light. He made many successful negotiations with foreign powers that still affect us today. Teddy Roosevelt is the human representative of the United State’s compassion and determined work ethic towards a goal.

When presenting the question of who deserves the title of best President of the United States, one would not be surprised to find Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and FDR as the frontrunners. While each of these presidents was undisputedly successful and groundbreaking in their own right, all fall short to America’s first modern president- Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt, assuming office at the turn of the century, redefined and reimagined the role of the president and the executive officialdom. By expanding the powers of the presidency, Roosevelt was able to move the country forward in both the international arena and on the home front. Roosevelt’s vast success can greatly be attributed to his charisma, character, and persuasion skills. He understood that the art of governing was truly the power to persuade, and he mastered the trade. Roosevelt not only improved life domestically as he fought against inequality and corrupt business practices, but he also achieved his goal of gaining influence abroad, thus earning the United States a powerful platform on the global stage. Roosevelt’s natural leadership, charm, bravery, and compassion combined with his thorough understanding of the country’s needs, both for the individual and for the long-term well being of the country, made him the most successful president in United States history.

Theodor Roosevelt, our 26th president, was a gruff politician who had a huge impact on America. He is known for his accomplishments in the political, social, and business world during the Progressive Era. His accomplishments helped shape America, and because of this influence, he is one of the faces found on Mount Rushmore.

One of his substantial traits was that he was fair. Theodore Roosevelt was fair on the democratic side of labor, where he thought that ethnicity should not interfere the chance of getting a job in a company. During the 1900s, the South was the racist part in the country, which had made Roosevelt focused on fixing this. Fairness helped Theodore as a president because “he helped the Republican Party”(Donald 141), which helped settle personal issues among many people. Another tremendous trait of Theodore Roosevelt is that he was a strategic thinker. TR had used this thinking in the 1901 situation in the Caribbean and the Pacific. “Told the Congress in his first annual message in December 1901 that the nation had rights in the world and duties to perform”(Donald 151.) His strategic thinking led Cuba to be free and protected by the United States from foreign interference. European countries would not be able to coincide with Latin America, which was now U.S. territory. Theodore Roosevelt’s final positive trait about him was that he was determined. For example, President Roosevelt built the Panama Canal, but before it was completed there was a problem. In the late nineteenth century, a French company had tried to build the canal, but were not able to accomplish it. There have been forty-four U.S. Presidents over the past two hundred and twenty four years. Some were very successful. Of those few historians, Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents that ever live. He is responsible for preserving the union, freeing the slaves, and enacting various new policies. Lincoln was a president that never gave up and put his people first. He was strong, confident and believes in his principles. Some of the presidents were least successful. Of those few historians, Herbert Hoover wasn’t very successful while he was in office. He was considered to be a terrible president because an awful thing occurred on his watch. What made Theodore Roosevelt such a great president and person? Many people aspire to be like him, but he sets a high bar for humanity. He is in many people's opinions one of the greatest presidents of the United States, so incredible that his face is set in stone and will be for hundreds of years in the future.

Two great men, two great presidents, led our nations to excellency and great success. Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were hard working, intelligent men who were very familiar, but were also different in many aspects. Roosevelt was a man who besides his intelligence, charm and strong confidence, he was able to sustain the nation through the most overbearing crisis know as the Great Depression as well as World War II. While managing to stay optimistic, Franklin Roosevelt helped people regain faith in themselves. Despite all the chaos going on at the time, “he was met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory (pg. 90).” He was praised for pushing the government to help those who were underprivileged. Many Presidents over the years have shown greatness through their leadership. Each has shown this in their individual way. It takes the ability to deal with whatever may come up, as far as politics are concerned, and handle it with care. Also it takes making a difference in society instead of just settling for the United States being ok as it is. The extra step that some take, separates the normal from the great. Lyndon B. Johnson was one of the Presidents who stood out by taking the extra step. LBJ showed presidential greatness through passing groundbreaking legislation and improving society.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the presidency a symbol of leadership and purpose in a time of depression and war. He established the role of the president to be chief legislator and has been labeled the “manipulative leader.” His charm was remarkable. He relied on his persuasion skills as a political tool. It was written that “In his geniality was a kind of frictionless command.” His success during the depression and New Deal programs, and the leadership he displayed during World War II is partially due to his presidential personality of unity.
