Global warming is the continuous increase in temperature of the earth surface, land, water, and atmosphere that is a huge natural phenomenon that has a tremendous negative impact all over the world to animals, people, land, and earth because of human activity being a big factor such as the excessive burning of fossil fuels, nitrogen-based fertilizers, deforestation, and automobiles thus causing negative effects to earth such as the polar ice melting, the sea level rising, melting glaciers, agriculture.

Global warming is a rising issue that is threatening our environment. It has caused significant changes in the climate that rapidly continues to get worse every day. Global warming is the gradual increase in the earth’s overall temperature which is caused by the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the reason for increased quantities of gases such as chlorofluorocarbons, carbon dioxide, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere. This atmospheric heating phenomenon causes temperatures to rise globally when the gases trap heat from the sun. The main cause of global warming is human activity.

Twenty thousand years ago, during the height of the most recent glacial period, ice sheets stretched from New York state across the Great Lakes to Wisconsin northward through most of Canada (Schneider 39). Mile-high domes of ice tied up so much fresh water that the oceans were some 100 meters lower than today. On a global basis, the world warmed up some five degrees Celsius from the beginning of the ice age’s rapid retreat over 15,000 years ago (39). The large and rapid climatic change affected the atmosphere, temperature, and water cycles. Research shows that planet Earth is in fact still warming. Senator Al Gore says this about global warming:

The idea of global warming has been drilled into many childrens heads’ starting 5th grade. From there, it has never stopped. The idea that the ozone layer is breaking up around the North Pole is scary, and there isn’t anything society can do about it. It’s not like an illness or cut where a doctor can prescribe medicine or put a Band-Aid on it. It’s a real global disaster. It’s a global disaster that could potentially ruin Earth. Global warming is not only affecting people’s health, but it is also destroying life on Earth in its process.

Global warming is presenting a lot of environmental and health problems to many countries. A lot of heat gets trapped on earth due to formation of a non-porous layer gases below the atmosphere. The worst effect is felt by developing countries, which are also geographically disadvantaged. The establishment of such countries is on low altitude areas. This position makes developing countries to be direct victims of floods from the melting snow at high altitude areas. A lot of scientific research associates global warming with the numerous irresponsible human activities such as industrialization in the developed countries. We hear about it on the news, we read about it in our textbooks, and it’s happening now. This “it” is global warming that is slowly tearing our earth apart. Mankind itself has been causing the earth’s temperatures to rise approximately 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880 due to constant emission of carbon dioxide from carbon based fuels. This includes industrialization, deforestation, and pollution which has greatly increased atmospheric concentrations of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide which result in trapping heat near Earth’s surface. Humas are putting themselves at risk as the world’s temperatures rise every year and is expected to raise 5 to 10 degrees higher by the end of the century, which is faster than it has ever been according to the National Resource Defense Council’s website. Global warming has been affecting the world at an alarming rate in various ways, one major impact is the melting of permafrost.

Global Warming has been devastating the earth and economy for the last twenty-five years. Greenhouse gases developed from the production of chemicals such as R-22, oil, and factories have been destroying o-zone and ecosystems. Carbon dioxide is developed naturally and absorbed by plants and animals, but, too much, and it good be deadly. With the increase in automobiles and production, the world government has begun to address the issue of greenhouse gases with limits and requirements for larger nations, with higher impacts of production and driving. The effects of greenhouse gases and global warming should be a major concern for society because the increased temperatures have caused degradation of permafrost, ozone to deplete, ocean levels and temperatures to rise, and promotes uncontrolled growth of plants and species causing some to become extinct.
